King Geek vs the Cheerleader

Julia Farrow has it all. She's got the friends, the grades, the smile, the perfect reputation, and the new boyfriend who adores her. All in all, life is pretty much perfect for Grover High's favorite cheerleader. Until she's tagged, that is. That ridiculous "Geeks Gone Wild" hashtag is still going strong and while Julia has managed to steer clear of the drama unfolding between the jocks and the geeks, one embarrassing photo is enough to flip her world upside down. The boyfriend? He's out. The friends? Turns out they're more like frenemies. And that perfect reputation? Well, that's all about to crumble as the truth comes out about Julia and her secret, passionate love affair with all things comics.

But Julia isn't about to go down without a fight. She's spent a lifetime honing her perfect image and when it's ruined, there's really only one person to blame. The school paper's editor-in-chief and the guy behind the hashtag - Matt Cartwright. Sure, he claims he's innocent, but if it wasn't for him she'd still be on track to be prom queen. He might not be able to fix this disaster that her life has become, but there's one way he can make it up to her. He can bring her along to the comics convention he's assigned to cover for his internship with the local paper. He's got the tickets, she needs an escape, and really, it's the least he can do. She's just tagging along as a fan, that's all. It's not like they have to be friends or anything. And those kisses? Well, what happens at comic-con stays at comic-con...right?

Fun read

I really enjoyed this story. It is lighthearted for the most part, it does deal with mean girls and little bullying. I loved getting to see this other side to Julia. We met her in the previous 2 books in the series though you don’t have to read them to fully enjoy this one. I loved getting to see this “geeky” side to her. It was interesting to see Matt having to change some of his perceptions of people and what they could be. I did get Matt not liking the facade that Julia put up, he wanted her to be genuine, whatever that looked like. The narrators did a great job with the story and really showcased the emotions in their voices. It was great.

Great story with very relatable characters

Most book usually have great characters but they’re never that relatable that the exact opposite for This book matt was probably the most I’ve related with any character in fiction he felt natural acted like a high school boy and thought like one to he felt so natural and this made my enjoyment of the story to the next level i thought it was a great story with great characters. Oh and i loved all the comic book references.

Enjoyed It For The Most Part

That was the end of this series and I enjoyed it .. for the most part
So this time we are with Matt he is a geek and loves to write in the schools newspaper, and his new story is about a Comic-Con .. the problem is he doesn't speak comics
Enter Julia, she is popular in the school but secretly a geek and LOVES comics, when she is tagged with #GeeksGoneWild she is exposes and one thing leads to another and both Julia and Matt are heading to the comic con together .. and they will know each other in a new angle
I have ro say this was my least favorite book in the series but it was satisfying to me

The narrators were really good and I recommend this audiobook

Nostalgic for My Teen Years!!

This story is the epitome of geeky fandom. Even though I am many moons passed my teen years, it called to my nostalgic heart.

There’s teen angst, there’s love, and there’s Comic-Con. Aren’t these all signs of the perfect teen story? Not only did the story take you inside the lives of both Matt and Jules, both narrators nailed the voices, the emotion, and the excitement this story brings to the reader.

I didn’t realize this was book 3, so I will definitely be seeking out the first two book. I am sure they will not disappoint.

Nerdy and Awesome

I’m not sure that it holds true anymore that comics are “just for nerds”; but even so, this story is cheesy and wonderful!
Matt and Julia come from different sides of the...cafeteria. She’s head cheerleader and he’s in the AV club.
When a mistake Matt made months ago started a trend that torpedoes Julia’s popularity, his friends make him apologize. To make amends, he lets her show him her secret world, comic-con.
I highly recommend this book that questions, who are we really? If we look hard enough, will we find mutual respect even in unlikely places?

Nothing but the best from Maggie Dallen

I’ll admit it…I’m obsessed with Maggie Dallen. Her ability to write short, engaging, and downright adorable books is cause for some serious spotlight. I love not only this book but every single book of hers I’ve listened too so far. The narration was spot on to so cheers to Lauren Fortgang and Josh Hurly for their hard work. I’ve also had the privilege to listen to another book narrated Lauren narrated called Kill the Queen (written by Jennifer Estep) which I also recommend. I have yet to read the first two books in the Geeks Gone Wild series and I look forward to listening to them soon!

Another Great Story in the Series!

I have loved each of this sweet YA Contemporary stories by Maggie Dallen. This one is just as a great as the others, and I loved how it played out. I gave it four stars only because comic-cons are not really my thing, Story and characters are fantastic though!

I love the dual narration by Lauren Fortgang and Josh Hurley. They both do such a great job with emotion that you feel you are the characters.

I received a copy of this audiobook at my request, and I have voluntarily left this review.

Once upon a Comic Con

This is the third book in the series and each book it’s better than the last. I love the role reversal that takes place from what would be the normal stereotype. The popular girl is actually the comic book nerd, and the geeky boy doesn’t have a clue. Another great audio performance by Lauren Fortgang who is quickly becoming a favorite. Each book in the series has had a different male narrator, and while Josh Hurley did an amazing job I would have liked to either have all the same narrators consistently or change both male and female narrators with each book.

Favorite of the series!

Finishing out this trilogy with my favorite of the three, we get Matt's story! I have really enjoyed this series, maybe because my kids were recently that age, and being involved in so many activities, I was able to witness some of this drama first hand. Maybe because I can remember being that age and the feelings that were evident during that time. Regardless, Maggie Dallen nails that high school time period with Julia, the popular cheerleader brought to shame by her love of comics. Really now, who can make fun of that? But kids are mean, and Julia is devastated by the response. But she does find out that people are not always what they appear. When Matt comes forth with a confession and then the chance for her to go to a convention, life for both the popular and the geek begins to change. And we learn that very important lesson that you never know what goes on behind closed doors, and people are not always as they seem. This is a fun story, the convention is a blast and I love the characters. Seeing our friends from the first two books also gives us that feeling of fitting in and understanding the situations. Another great story and I just love Dallen's style!

Narrated by the talents of Lauren Fortgang and Josh Hurley, the perfect new adult sound is heard. These two have tuned into this age, and given us all the feels we have in high school and bring me straight back. I loved this team, as they fit into their characters and let us live the lives of these kids. A funny and enjoyable listen brought to life by these two.

Third in series

It would be better to start with the first book in the series (Love at First Fight) or at the very least the second book (My Virtual Prince Charming). This is also a continuation of the same story without any cliffhanger endings between the books, and there's a major event in the second book that sets up Once Upon a Comic-Con. It does give some context when the events are mentioned, but you would get a lot more out of this story if you've read the Geeks Gone Wild series in order.

I like the dual point of view with the dual narrators. I'm not sure if Once upon a Comic-Con has more instances where the characters address the reader directly than in the previous books, or if I just hadn't noticed it before now, but there were times in Matt's POV where he comments to the reader that I would have preferred a more conversational delivery. I still liked the narration and found the voices pleasant to listen to.

I was also a little disappointed in the story and would have liked to give it 3.5 stars. Key points were identical to the first book: a popular kid has a geeky hobby that they hide from the school. It wasn't the exact same story twice. The second book focused more on keeping secrets from the other in the relationship while the third focused more on hiding from the community.

🎧 Reviewed for Audiobook Obsession 🎧

This was my favorite book in the series, I hope this series gets into the ears of the young adults that have incurred the subject faced in this series, bullies.
Matt’s story shows that you can’t take everyone at face value, a person you think is unapproachable might be hiding a secret self.
Lauren and Josh did a wonderful job bringing these characters to life.

Geeks Gone Wild Book Three

Geeks Gone Wild Book Three.

When Matt inserted the photo of Suzie and Margo in the senior slideshow, he never thought it would be stuck up on screen for longer than a moment. In the aftermath of that fateful decision, Matt has to earn back his best friends' trust. Julia has never been on Matt's radar as anything other than a popular girl who happens to be nice, but when her Wonder Woman Cosplay photo is the next big conflict he finds out she might be useful. As a writer at the local paper, Matt is assigned the Comic Con article, but he is far from a fanboy. Julia and Matt spend the weekend at the Con and they get to know each other more than they expected.

If you're looking for a cosplay fix with high school romance and the ability to completely let your true self loose, this is the book for you.

Great end to the series

This is the third and final book in the Geeks Gone Wild series, this one focusing on Matt the geek and school paper editor-in-chief and Julia the popular girl aiming to be Prom Queen. In this book I wasn’t a fan of Matt to start with, I was team Julia, yes she may be popular, but she wasn’t a dislikeable character, she was a kind girl. Matt kind of ruined her chances of being Prom Queen when he publishes an embarrassing photo, losing her boyfriend and friends in the process. So when he invites her to Comic-Con as he knows she likes comics, to hopefully make up for it a little bit she accepts. Julia is like a different person at Comic-Con and Matt really likes that side of her, it isn’t long before they kiss but what will happen when they go back to the real world of high school?
A fantastic finale to the series, this audiobook was entertaining, light and flowed well and the HEA wraps it up perfectly. Maggie Dallen wrote a great series here.
