Story
When junior barrister Daniel Pitt is summoned to the scene of a murder in the slum area known as Mile End, he knows only that the victim is a senior barrister from his firm. To Daniel's relief, it is not his close friend Toby Kitteridge, but the question remains: What was this respected colleague doing in Mile End? The firm's head, Marcus fford Croft, may know more than he admits, but fford Croft's memory is not what it used to be. And so Daniel and Kitteridge must investigate on their own, lest the police uncover something they should not.

Publisher's Summary
Two fiery deaths have young Lawyer Daniel Pitt and his scientist friend Miriam fford Croft racing to solve a forensic crisis in this explosive new novel from New York Times best-selling author Anne Perry.
When a desperate woman comes to Daniel Pitt seeking a lawyer for her boyfriend, Rob Adwell, Daniel is convinced of the young man’s innocence. Adwell has been accused of murder and of setting a fire to conceal the body, but Daniel is sure that science can absolve him - and Miriam fford Croft is the best scientist he knows. Miriam connects Daniel with her former teacher Sir Barnabas Saltram, an expert in arson, and together, they reveal Adwell’s innocence by proving that an accidental fire caused the victim’s death. But it’s not long before Adwell is killed in the same fiery fashion. If these deaths are, in fact, murders, what essential clue could Daniel and Miriam have missed?
As their investigation deepens, one of Saltram’s former cases comes into question, and Miriam finds herself on the defensive. If the reasoning Saltram used in that case is proved false, several other cases will have to be retried, and Saltram’s expert status - not to mention Miriam’s reputation - will be ruined. Haunted by Saltram’s shady tactics in and outside of the classroom, Miriam is desperate to figure out truths both past and present and protect herself in the face of Saltram’s lies. What started as an accidental fire in Adwell’s case seems to be linked to a larger plot for revenge, with victims accumulating in its wake, and Miriam and Daniel must uncover who or what is stoking these recurring flames - before they, too, find themselves burned.

One Fatal Flaw
Anne Perry never disappoints with her strong women and honorable men always fighting against injustice. They are ahead of their time with social views, in and beyond, the reign of Queen Victoria . Those characteristics persist in One Fatal Flaw where a new young lawyer, Daniel Pitt, follows in the footsteps of his famous parents, Thomas and Charlotte Pitt.
Because of the erroneous scientific theory of an arrogant and respected forensic scientist, Daniel sets out to unveil the truth. He sets the wheels in motion to provide justice for those people wronged, dishonored and slandered.
I highly recommend either reading or listening to One Fatal Flaw. It is well written and the audio production is well read.
I gave this story and performance 5 stars because I enjoyed it tremendously!

Usually love Daniel Pitt but not this one
First let me say I am an American lawyer and this story could not have happened in the US. Of course we do not have the solicitor/barrister duality, not do lawyers pinch hit as prosecutors. Our judges do not interfere in the argument anywhere near as much as portrayed here, especially in the basis of getting on in a CAPITAL case! Even so this is just not believable even with procedural differences being pretermitted. Not a pleasant or even very interesting story and characters are wooden. What happened, Anne? I am sorely disappointed. And the narrator was very preachy or something, just did not convey a pleasant tone. Three stars is very generous.

Jerky narration
The story is very good. However, the narrator sounds like he is reading from a teleprompter with unfortunate breaks. He stops in mid sentence and waits the picks up fro the next 3 to 4 words. Good accent but needs to be more fluent in his reading.

I wasn’t too keen on the Daniel Pitt novels at first, but they’re really starting to get good. Samuel Roukin has always done a splendid job, but that wasn’t enough for the first ones. Characters are now varied and well-drawn, stories are suspenseful and they’re not too formulaic. I’m looking forward to the next one.
