Story
It wasn’t long ago that liberal icons, including the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, were against the idea of overhauling the court for political gain. But now, in the Biden era, more and more powerful Democrats are getting behind the cause, claiming the high court is broken and actively dismantling our democracy. What changed? Mike Lee reveals the answer to that question and warns of the dangerous norm-shattering precedent that would be set by politically motivated attempts to turn the Supreme Court into just another partisan weapon.

Story
Behind a smokescreen of “preparing students for the new industrial economy,” early progressives had political control in mind. America’s original schools didn’t just make kids memorize facts or learn skills; they taught them to think freely and arrive at wisdom. They assigned the classics, inspired love of God and country, and raised future citizens that changed the world forever. Battle for the American Mind is the untold story of the Progressive plan to neutralize the basis of our Republic—by removing the ingredient that had sustained Western Civilization.

America is great for a reason. Built on principles of freedom, rugged individualism, and self-sufficiency, no country has ever accumulated more power and wealth, abused it less, or used that power more to advance the human condition. And yet, as America blossomed, left-wing radicalism and resentment festered beneath the surface, threatening to undermine democracy in the form of social justice warriors, the deep state, and compromised institutions like academia and the mainstream media.

In this candid memoir, Barr takes listeners behind the scenes during seminal moments of the 1990s, from the LA riots to Pan Am 103 and Iran Contra. Thirty years later, Barr faced an unrelenting barrage of issues, such as Russiagate, the COVID outbreak, civil unrest, the impeachments, and the 2020 election fallout.

That book was about standing at the precipice of progressivism’s threat to our freedom, and now, over a decade later, we’re fully over that precipice and paying the price. In American Marxism, Levin explains how the core elements of Marxist ideology are now pervasive in American society and culture.

Black Americans have long been shackled to the Democrats. Seeing no viable alternative, they have watched liberal politicians take the Black vote for granted without pledging anything in return. In Blackout, Owens argues that this automatic allegiance is both illogical and unearned. She contends that the Democrat Party has a long history of racism and exposes the ideals that hinder the Black community’s ability to rise above poverty, live independent and successful lives, and be an active part of the American dream.

By screaming down freedom of thought and expression, Mamet explains, we kill invention and democracy—the foundations of security and growth.

This is an easily digestible argument about what rights we have, what rights Republicans are trying to take away, and how to stop them. Mystal explains how to protect the rights of women and people of color instead of cowering to the absolutism of gun owners and bigots. He explains the legal way to stop everything from police brutality to political gerrymandering, just by changing a few judges and justices. He strips out all of the fancy jargon conservatives like to hide behind and lays bare the truth of their project to keep America forever tethered to its slaveholding past.

Now, in The Audacity of Hope, Senator Obama calls for a different brand of politics: a politics for those weary of bitter partisanship and alienated by the "endless clash of armies" we see in Congress and on the campaign trail; a politics rooted in the faith, inclusiveness, and nobility of spirit at the heart of "our improbable experiment in democracy".

The Founding Fathers tried to protect us from the threat they knew, the tyranny that overcame ancient democracy. Today, our political order faces new threats, not unlike the totalitarianism of the 20th century. We are no wiser than the Europeans who saw democracy yield to fascism, Nazism, or communism. Our one advantage is that we might learn from their experience.

Publisher's Summary
With Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s sudden passing, control of the Supreme Court — and with it the fate of the Constitution — has become the deciding issue for many voters in the 2020 presidential election. And the stakes could not be higher.
With a simple majority on the Supreme Court, the left will have the power to curtail or even abolish the freedoms that have made our country a beacon to the world. We are one vote away from losing the Republic that the Founders handed down to us. Our most precious constitutional rights hang by a thread.
Senator Ted Cruz has spent his entire career on the front line of the war to protect our constitutional rights. And as a Supreme Court clerk, solicitor general of Texas, and private litigator, he played a key role in some of the most important legal cases of the past two decades.
In One Vote Away, you will discover how often the high court decisions that affect your life have been decided by just one vote. One vote preserves your right to speak freely, to bear arms, and to exercise your faith. One vote will determine whether your children enjoy their full inheritance as American citizens.
God may endow us with “certain unalienable rights,” but whether we enjoy them depends on nine judges — the “priests of the robe” who have the last say in our system of government. Drawing back the curtain of their temple, Senator Cruz reveals the struggles, arguments, and strife that have shaped the fate of those rights. No one who listens to One Vote Away can ever again take a single seat on the Supreme Court for granted.

Intellectual and Insightful, so smartly written it became prophetic!
Ted Cruz is an intellectual giant, he writes with a great balance of political drama, legal insight, and common sense. His genuine textual understanding of the constitution makes this an interactive experience for the reader/listener. You feel like you are having a conversation with the senator. The prophetic and ultimate premise of the book will be timeless, although the timing of its release when a game changing nominee is going through confirmation makes it all the more sumptuous. In the end he shows you an understanding of liberty and freedom and how fragile it is if we do not protect our rights as Americans.

Well done!
When Amy Coney Barrett is confirmed maybe we will no longer be one vote away! Perhaps Ted Cruz can write another book then that is more hopeful. On the other hand Roberts and Kavanaugh may move further leftward and again give leftists a voting majority on the Supreme Court. Roberts already seems more interested in politics than constitutional and legal judicial matters. We shall see.
Ted Cruz is whip smart, has great legal knowledge, has terrific debating skills, and is reliably conservative. Not yet 50 years old he has a great future as a Republican Party leader and possibly as US president. ONE VOTE AWAY is an outstanding book about politics, the US Constitution and the law.

Substantive and easy to understand
Senator Cruz brilliantly illustrates, through a myriad of personal fights he’s experienced, just how important nominating the right people for the Supreme Court is. With each topic he gives an example of a case from history as well as one that is recent. He also tells some behind the scenes stories from the 2016 campaign through to the writing of this book. Probably the best “tell all” of the Trump administration.

An engaging and educational insight into the workings of the Supreme Court
This book provides a clear and unambiguous view on why the appointment of Supreme Court judges are so fundamental to how our political system operates
Ted Cruz personal experiences of the presentation of cases to the Supreme Court indicate clearly that the judges are ruling in accordance with their political affiliations.
The Supreme Court is the third leg of our legislation process and is supposed to rule In accordance with constitution. This is to ensure that all claimants are given justice under the terms of the constitution.
This book leaves you with the conclusion that some of the rulings provided seem to be above and beyond the remit of a ruling purely in accordance with the constitution
The biographical details provide a nice background to how our legal and political system works.
Should be required reading for any legal student with political aspirations and anybody wishing to understand how the Supreme Court works.
Very entertaining read!

Very enlightening and enraging at the same time
Cruz is a great writer. The stories are told really well and the arguments laid out very clearly. The subjects addressed, however, are enraging as they cover the common sense laws that are being vociferously thought in Congress, Senate, and the courts.
It’s a troubling book we should all read.
