Publisher's Summary

A sexy and suspenseful new contemporary romance from New York Times best-selling author Lexi Blake.

High-end defense attorney Henry Garrison expected his newest case to be an easy paycheck. But his client Gillian Murphy is nothing like he expected. There's much more to the beautiful woman than he imagined. Gillian knows that she's innocent and that Henry is the best lawyer to represent her. But she doesn't know why she's so fascinated with him. He's hard and cynical, and he wonders if any woman can break through his well-placed walls.

As the case takes a wild turn and Gillian's entire life is upended, her very identity in question, she must look to the people she's closest to in order to find a killer. And Henry has to decide if the case is more important than his growing love for his client.

Wonderful listen!

I love Lexi Blake and Alexandra Shawnee and this one was top notch! The characters are great and the writing is so good. Alexandra Shawnee is one of my favorite narrators as well. I got a little lost in the story every once in a while but overall great. Can't wait for the next one!

Loved the story- narrator not so much

Had a terrible time listening to this narrator. So turned off I won’t get any more audiobooks that she has narrated. First time that has happened for me.

Recovering Drunk Knows Best

Although Lexi Blake is an incredibly gifted author, she has a bizarrely misogynistic view of her own gender and sexual relationships. Her arrogantly macho male characters always KNOW BEST while her female characters are often meek, indecisive and desperately need some alpha jerk to validate their worth.

A perfect example is attorney Henry, a recovering drunk who made too many stupid decisions to mention, ruining his professional reputation and personal integrity. Unbelievably, Henry instantly believes that he knows best for Winnie, deciding that she is too stupid to vocalize her own sexual desires.

While this book does not seem to romanticize sexual violence or domestic abuse, unlike the author's other series which blatantly condones rape and torture, I just didn't find the main characters engaging or entertaining. I like heroines who respect themselves and heroes who actually like and admire women.

Can't even finish listening

I will have to read what I am sure is a good book. This narrator just grates on my nerves so bad I had to turn it off.

Entertaining As Always

Lexi Blake usually can't be beat for erotic suspense. This time; however, I saw everything coming way ahead of time. Also, Harry and Winnie don't leave me with the feeling that they belong together as do most of her protagonists.
Alexandra Shawnee did much better job at narration than I first thought. The farther it went on the more she (or the characters) improved..

Not her usual really sexy book

It has a very good mysterious storyline but lacks the detailed sex scenes I’ve come to expect from Lexi Blake. I hate that she’s changing. I bought all her books in these connected series plus her co-written ones with Ms Black. But I’ll have to think about just buying more without finding out what category they fall in. I love the erotic like sex but with an in-depth storyline.

Had to stop listening

I love Lexi Blake’s books…until this one. I can’t tell if it is the narrator (a lot of her voices sound the same, it gets very confusing and the way she “acts” the parts out is incredibly annoying), or if the book is just moving slow. I am 4 hrs in and I still don’t quite know what the plot is (other than girl meets guy and has sex). Unfortunately I cannot return it at this point so I guess I just wasted a credit.
