Publisher's Summary
Alexander C. Kane, author of the smash-hit Andrea Vernon series, brings his signature humor to the adventures of an unlikely, tenacious new heroine in this fantastic free-for-all.
Gretch Wolgast is a bit of a dud. Just ask her. She’s a 21-year-old college dropout who has a loser job at the mall. Sure, she can lift a tennis ball with her telekinetic powers. But only three feet in the air. And she has to be sitting.
Gretch is an OP, one of thousands born in Orlando, Florida, in the early 1980s who mysteriously developed the ability to move things with their minds. Unfortunately, she turned out to be the weakest of the bunch.
Then Shaq left town to join the Lakers, and it's been downhill ever since.
Now, Gretch’s life is being turned upside down. She witnesses a murder and discovers a wide-ranging conspiracy that could destroy her hometown and all the OP.
And she might be the only one powerful enough to stop it.

Thirty-nine was a fantastic year. I was married to the man I loved. I had a body that worked without creaking. My grandma, who raised me, was still healthy, and life was pretty damned good. But as they say, all good things come to an end. One year later, I’m a widow. My joints are starting to ache. Gram is in the nursing home, and dead people think my home is some kind of supernatural bed-and-breakfast. Gluing body parts onto semi-transparent people has become a side job - deceased people I’m not even sure are actually there.

It was a day like any other. Except it was our last.... It’s on this day that Pounce discovers that he is, in fact, disposable. Pounce, a styilsh "nannybot" fashioned in the shape of a plush anthropomorphic tiger, has just found a box in the attic. His box. The box he'd arrived in when he was purchased years earlier, and the box in which he'll be discarded when his human charge, eight-year-old Ezra Reinhart, no longer needs a nanny. As Pounce ponders his suddenly uncertain future, the pieces are falling into place for a robot revolution that will eradicate humankind.

Super(natural) fun!
I really enjoyed the Andrea Vernon stories so, despite being a little piqued that it was coming out ahead of AV3, I preordered Orlando People. I am so glad I did. The story is amazing; it is funny, has heart, contains solid sci fi, and is an FBI procedural mystery, too. I loved the characters and the performance was perfect. I honestly found myself laughing out loud and when the book was finished I went right back and listened to chapter 21 again because it was that much fun.

WOW!!! What a performance & what a book!
I think I found a new favorite narrator - Kristen Sieh does excellent work with the main character, she nails her quirkiness spot on & does great job with differentiating the supporting cast.
I was a bit on the fence about the story before I got this book, Alexander C. Kane is my favorite author based on his previous 2 Andrea Vernon CUP books, so I am really happy I finally got around to getting this book, it for sure exceeding my expectations.
The story is good, but what this book really sets apart are the little quips about year 2004 & Orlando area: there is of course mention to the infamous Razor phone & Shaq/Hardaway in Orlando Magic, but what really made it for me was main character Gretch upset about missing email because switching from yahoo mail to gmail - been there, done that, at that exact time too!
This last bit I actually got on the 2nd listen, I was travelling while listening to this book so missed a few things, but I liked this book so much that I started listening to it again right away, and I am sure I will listen to it a few more times in the future.
So here are my recommendations:
If you like books with great narrations - get it!
If you like Alexander C. Kane books - get it!
If you like sci-fi books with great stories & witty humor - get it!
And if you see this book on sale - DEFINITIVELY GET IT NOW!

Alexander C. Kane did it again
I am a huge fan of the CUP series so I was a little worried about reading a new series. With that being said, I was worried for no reason. Orlando People, is just as clever, whitty, full of sarcasm, and extremely funny. It is totally different from the CUP series but you will still enjoy it! Alexander C. Kane is a great writer.

I am almost two hours in and I’ve thrown in the towel. The narrator is awful, everyone sounds like an irritated teen!!! Can’t take it. I never know whose talking or what they’re talking about. Incredibly boring story, the same interview over and over so far. I’m done!
I love his other series but not this book at all.

I enjoy this guy's brain
Alexander C. Kane is apparently my type of writer. I loved AV1 and AV2, and was excited to give his latest story a listen. Admittedly, it took me a couple of chapters to get used to NOT hearing Bahni Turpin, but I ended up really enjoying Kristen Sieh's delivery. Especially when she was singing - those parts were truly a gift to my ears and my funny bone. I am a huge fan of how Mr. Kane wraps up his stories. He excels at building in these layers that aren't always obvious, but come the end of the story make you go, "OHHH!!" And suddenly, you're not "blocked" anymore and you get it. Big fan, and I'm probably going to re-listen to this one just like I re-listened to AV1&2.

A sci-fi love letter to Orlando
For children who grew up in Orlando in the '80s and '90s, this book will speak to your childhood. If you are thinking about moving to Orlando, this book perfectly encapsulates the strange mishmash of conflicting cultures that make up the City Beautiful (except for the telekinesis).

Wonderful book, great world building and character development.
