Publisher's Summary

The true story of a teenage killer and the silence of a small New England town.

For 20 years Daniel Paquette's murder in New Hampshire went unsolved. It remained a secret between two high school friends until Eric Windhurst's arrest in 2005. What was revealed was a crime born of adolescent passion between Eric and Daniel's stepdaughter, Melanie - redefining the meaning of loyalty, justice, and revenge.

A

as a victim of a pedophile step father myself, and who had to endure years of being told it was my fault, I applaud what Eric did for Mellony even if it was murder. I wish as pedophiles lived in constant fear that someone out of nowhere will play judge, jury, and prosecution and end their pathetic and coweredly lives!! in my opinion they should all be castrated and then hung!!

Interesting and beautifully written

This is a case that I had never heard of before and it was laid out in an order that led to it unfolding beautifully. It showed an empathetic view from both sides. It had incredible detail but not to the level of bogging down the narrative flow. I would highly recommend this book.

Let’s have a drinking game….

Everytime the author says I-85197 take one shot. You will be blitzed. Which will help you get through this book that could have been half as long.

Everytime the author says pseudonym take two shots. Now you should be comatose.

Great story. Not so great storytelling.

My 1st Time

This was my 1st time listening to a true crime book. I learned of this crime listening to a true crime podcast. There, of course, is a lot more information in the book, which I enjoyed.

Good but...

Really good but but there a lot of people to keep track of. If you listen to a little daily or "binge listen" you should be fine but if you decide to take long breaks between listening you may lose track of the characters and their importance.

Narrator is One Tone Sally!

Many times i would stop listening because the narrator never changed her tone and my mind would wander. i wont be listening to any others she has narrated...and i only finished this book because 1. it was true crime and 2. because i grew up relatively close to where this occured.

Long for no Reason

The book started out interestingly but eventually I was bored to pieces. It's extremely drawn out and they spent an incredible amount of time on pointless details.

It's had a hard time finishing but did so because

I personally feel like this story could have been told in 3 chapters. The entire time I kept wondering if there was gonna be some sort of climax

Fastpaced, confusing, but interesting

Fast paced true crime, maybe a bit too fast paced. Narration is great, but fast and with a lot of different names that are sometimes not really relevant. At different times in this story I didn't really know what was going on and where in the story I was. Story is interesting but it didn't start to make sense to me in the last couple of hours. I think this could be helped by doing some research beforehand instead of plunging in what I did.
