Publisher's Summary

From New York Times bestselling author Kristan Higgins comes a funny and surprising new novel about second chances—and why the lies we tell ourselves are the most dangerous.

Lillie Silva knew life as an empty nester would be hard after her only child left for college, but when her husband abruptly dumps her for another woman just as her son leaves, her world comes crashing down. Besides the fact that this announcement is a complete surprise (to say the least), what shocks Lillie most is that she isn't...heartbroken. She's furious.

Lillie has loved her life on Cape Cod, but as a mother, wife and nurse-midwife, she's used to caring for other people...not taking care of herself. Now, alone for the first time in her life, she finds herself going a little rogue. Is it over the top to crash her ex-husband's wedding, dressed like the angel of death? Sure! Should she release a skunk into his perfect new home? Probably not! But it beats staying home and moping.

She finds an unexpected ally in her glamorous sister, with whom she's had a tense relationship all these years. And an unexpected babysitter in of all people Ben Hallowell, the driver in a car accident that nearly killed Lillie 20 years ago. And then there's Ophelia, her ex-husband's oddly lost niece, who could really use a friend.

It's the end of Lillie's life as she knew it. But sometimes the perfect next chapter surprises you...out of the clear blue sky.

Wonderful!

Xe Sands is my favorite narrator. Add a heartwarming story with likable characters and it's a winner.
Set on Cape Cod, Lily, tha main character experiences a full, believable life. I never knew Cape Cod's hearty fishermen were Portuguese (her Dad).
I liked the contrasting characters of Melissa and Lily, who both marry Brad, a wimpy, least likable male character. There's a little something about normal
People from "white trash" to middle class to Uber rich. Strong women are central characters with men orbiting around them..some good, some odious. I think I liked this Higgins' book the best.

Ranked in my top 5

I don’t give reviews but I sure read them before making the difficult decision of my next read. I couldn’t resist sharing that this is so worth a credit. It’s emotional in all aspects and one I’ll recommend and will fondly remember always… Adding to my favorites knowing this is one I’ll come back to someday.

"Out of the Clear Blue Sky" by Kristan Higgins

This was a GREAT book! So very sad and makes you want to jump into the pages and beat the crap out of some of the characters and also put your arm around others to give comfort and support. But let me tell you something else: I never laughed so hard reading chapter 21 (I think that's the right one). I could just see it all playing out and I could smell it, too. I played it over and over just to laugh again!! Thanks for this book and I hope to see it on the big screen soon!

Loved loved Lily

I absolutely loved Lily. It was one of those books where you’re so attuned to the main character. The narrator did an awesome job and I found myself addicted to the storyline. Couldn’t put it down. Don’t skip this one!

Wonderful read, fantastic ending!!

This is my 7th Kristan Higgins book in a row! I cannot get enough of her wonderfully warm stories and delightful characters!!! Every book keeps me yearning for more and this one was one of the best yet!! I find all Kristans stories have some similarities that are endearing- like the dog characters, which makes me want to own another dog for sure!! I love a happy ending so this is an author for me indeed. Make no mistake she offers many clever twists and exciting events that keep me on the edge of my seat and listening late into the night!! I’ll be starting another of her books as soon as I finish this review!! FYI, XE Sands & CJ Bloom are two of the best narrators EVER!! I am very particular about my narrators as they can make or break a story in my opinion. Enjoy!!

Loved it

Relatable story for others who have experienced cheating and divorce. Wonderful main characters. One you immediately love and one you may think you hate but then again you just might like her in the end. Excellent narrators. One of my favorite books this year and I read a lot!

Not her best

I’m always going to read a book by Higgins but this one was my least favorite for a couple of reasons.

First, the Appalachian characters were so stereotypical and underdeveloped! I usually love the way Higgins writes class and culture and her working class characters are usually so well drawn, but the Appalachian dialogue seemed right out of the Beverly Hillbillies.

Also, parts of the book were really bleak and painful and cringeworthy. The humor I usually appreciate from her books came through here and there, but I could’ve used a lot more.

Still good though.
