Ambitious ice queen and corporate lawyer Felicity Simmons has spent her life focused on one thing: scuttling up the career ladder. She's achingly close to taking charge of a media empire for her boss when she's sent to investigate a South Bronx charity that helps homeless people's pets. Has the charity made off with her boss's generous donation? And, who on earth is that gorgeous soft-butch veterinarian who looks as if she could toss a Shetland pony over one shoulder? Not that Felicity has any interest in some opinionated Amazon or her adorable fleabag of a dog.

Spoiled
I am not done reading it yet but very good book. Unfortunately a review told me part of the story that was not in the detail as it was claimed. Kinda ruined part of it for me bc I had not gotten there yet but had went back to book details to see something and the review popped up.
Please be careful what you say in reviews it could make or break a story for someone and now I do not know if I want to finish but it is well written so for the author who took time to write it I probably will finish.

There’s a lot going on in this book..
I've read both books in the series and looking forward to the third book coming out. I love books that include, cops, DEA's, mystery and romance. This one has a little bit of it all and the second book just continues on. I don’t think this is really a spoiler because it’s in the description, but the death of Avery was probably one of the saddest I’ve read and now heard in a while. Lori Prince once again does a tremendous job performing and bringing to life a intriguing series.

Had potential, yet underwhelming
First, Lori Prince’s performance was excellent as always. Overall this story was wholly underwhelming for me though. I kept waiting for it to become more substantial but the “meat” of the story was missing all throughout.
Instead of describing certain important events, we’re just told that they happened. From one paragraph to the next significant developments happened without any details or dialogue filled...like the MC’s falling in love, MC’s getting married, Nana dying, etc.
I kept thinking wow this is being rushed, maybe these aren’t important events & the author’s just leading up to the point when it’s gonna become more dense. But no they go from meeting, to dating, to married, to one of them dying in literally like 2-3 chapters. It doesn’t give much time for the reader to become invested in the story or connect with characters.
And honestly I didn’t come to like Sloane as a character very much; she’s described as aloof, flaky, & kinda disloyal. With the story advancing so quickly without much description of pivotal moments I just never connected with her much. It had potential to be compelling but there were tons of missed opportunities & failure to really delve beneath the surface of the characters.

I had a hard time getting into it
I started it and stopped it a few times. I kept feeling like I missed something because the first 3 or 4 chapters raced through so much time. it felt like they left chapters on the cutting room floor. I guess I see why she would want you to feel a connection to Avery. I still felt conflicted when it came to Finn. I still liked the story and the characters. I was pretty invested in it by the end.

Kinda cliché
I had a hard time with this book. Don't get me wrong, I love a good cop story, but the whole, "When I get close to someone, they die, so I'll just sleep around" thing is played out. Sloan played the pity card way too much, and the relationship between her and Avery was extremely shallow. They got married, and the whole relationship was based on sex. Not actual love, mutual respect, and emotional closeness, just sex. I won't give away anything, but after the BIG THING happened in the middle of the book, I had to skip through to the last half hour, because I just couldn't with the "it's all my fault" thing anymore. I need stronger characters to keep my interest.

Good Story
I honestly really did enjoy listening to this story especially since Lori was narrating. She can tell a story! I honestly thought it was a little darker than I imagined, I was happy there wasn't a scandal but I thought the relationship was a bit rushed considering what had happened. I'm willing to continue the series.

Very good book!
This was very suspenseful from when Sloan went through the worst any 13 year old could ever imagine,
20 years later Sloan met the woman she fell in love. The tragedy that Sloan and Regan went through was such that it almost brought me to tears.
The book had everything that made it such a great book. Well done!

Well done
A solid, well rounded story. Has a little bit of everything. As someone who has read dozens of books within this genre; this book left little to be desired.
The chemistry between all characters; was excellent and realistic.
While I did find this to be a slow burn, as the first 4 chapters left me feeling like I just watched a movie on fast forward, it did take me a min to get into it. But once I was in, I was hooked.
My first time reading a book by Stacy Lynn Miller, I’m impressed and will certainly read more.
His descriptive storytelling, put me right there with Sloane, and I could feel the heat, and taste the smoke.
Now, the performance was a little whimsical and I did not felt that it fit the tone of the book. There was a strange and narrow variation of voices, with inflections in odd places.
I found myself wishing Abby Crayden had read this, but, it was fine as I was able to get through it and still found it enjoyable. She’s just not my favorite.

Good read
A bit short without a real ending in my opinion. The love stories are a bit underdeveloped compared to the accidents. Otherwise a good listen.
