Story
Deadwood, 1876: a notorious little mining town in modern-day South Dakota that was a hive of criminal activity. Thieves, drunkards, prostitutes, and murderers ran rampant among its booming streets. There were over 300 murders in this town during the first year of its existence. When Wild Bill Hickok was brutally shot and killed at point-blank range in the back of the head, it was obvious that someone had to rise up and save the town of Deadwood from itself.

Our understanding of the American West has moved far beyond pop culture in recent years. The legendary people and events we associate with the Wild West - the last stand at the Alamo, the Battle of Little Bighorn, the exploits of Calamity Jane, the hardships of the Oregon Trail - are even more fascinating once the historical realities have been separated from the myths.

In July 1865, "Wild Bill" Hickok shot and killed Davis Tutt in Springfield, Mo., - the first quick-draw duel on the frontier. Thus began the reputation that made him a marked man to every gunslinger the Wild West. The legend of Wild Bill has only grown since his death in 1876, when cowardly Jack McCall famously put a bullet through the back of his head during a card game. Best-selling author Tom Clavin has sifted through years of Western lore to bring Hickock fully to life in this rip-roaring, spellbinding true story.

Frank Sheeran, known as the Irishman, waited his entire life to tell his story, or at least his version of his story. The world knew him as a union official, a longtime member of the Teamsters Union; he was a member of Jimmy Hoffa's inner circle at the top of the national union. As an old man suffering from cancer, Frank Sheeran shared his story with his attorney. He told him of the things that were already known, but he shared much, much more. This book explores Sheeran's confessions as a lifelong criminal with ties to some of the biggest crimes of the 20th century.

The great Oglala Sioux chief Red Cloud was the only Plains Indian to defeat the United States Army in a war, forcing the American government to sue for peace in a conflict named for him. At the peak of their chief’s powers, the Sioux could claim control of one-fifth of the contiguous United States. But unlike Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, or Geronimo, the fog of history has left Red Cloud strangely obscured. Now, thanks to painstaking research by two award-winning authors, his incredible story can finally be told.

With the Gilded Age in full swing and the Industrial Revolution reshaping the American landscape, "the Kid", who was gunned down by Sheriff Pat Garrett in the New Mexico Territory at the age of 21, became a new breed of celebrity outlaw.

Wyatt Earp is regarded as the most famous lawman of the Old West, best known for his role in the Gunfight at the OK Corral in Tombstone, Arizona. But the story of his two-year war with a band of outlaws known as the Cowboys has never been told in full. The Cowboys were the largest outlaw gang in the history of the American West. After battles with the law in Texas and New Mexico, they shifted their operations to Arizona. There, they ruled the border, robbing, rustling, smuggling, and killing with impunity until they made the fatal mistake of tangling with the Earp brothers.

Story
The Gunmen of the American Wild West Collection brings to life the history of the frontier west of the Mississippi in the latter parts of the 19th century. The gunmen ranged from lawmen to cowboys, ranchers, and outlaws. Most of the outlaws in the Old West preyed on banks, trains, and stagecoaches. Although spread thin, the law was present, usually on the level of deputy US marshal, county sheriff, and the town marshal or constable.

Publisher's Summary
Horse thieves, gunslingers, fighters for freedom.... The Wild West truly had the potential for creating incredible stories - including those in this book.
Did you dream of grabbing your cowboy hat, jumping onto a horse, and running wild in the Western wilderness?
Do you love the classic American Westerns and their colorful, charming characters?
Have you ever wanted to know more about those mysterious figures who fought for their freedom, wealth, and position on the prairies?
Well, hold on to your hat, because this book is just for you. The enthralling collection consists of six unique characters whose lives seem pulled right out of a fictional story - but they are all true. Impressive feats, legends, and brazen acts - they are all here.
The Wild West was a troublesome area for a long, long time. Hard conditions brought hard people - not everyone was suited to live there, but those who did had a choice - the boring everyday life or a life of an outlaw, filled with daring escapes, adventures, and thievery. If it was you, which one would you choose?
Would you become the leader of a gang, robbing trains and banks? Or maybe you would be a fighter for freedom who was forced to reach for extraordinary measures? Or a criminal mastermind with a number of cohorts working for you?
In Outlaws of the Wild West, you will find out:
- How important family values were and ties to some of those outlaws
- Who the real face behind the mask of Zorro was
- How a well-educated one became a leader of a ring of horse thieves
- Who survived being shot 23 times and made a decent life for themselves
- Who was dubbed the Bandit Queen
- What happened during one of the most famous bank robberies of all times
- Which outlaw was so polite he came back to prison in the morning
- Who was called “Dingus” because he was a murderer who disliked cursing
- And much more
“They are just criminals,” you may think. “They killed people and robbed them.”
Well, it may be true, but remember - some of them fought for more reasons than just amassing wealth....The mysterious figures hide more secrets than we think. Many of them met the end we expect them to, but not all of them.... Some had surprising moral codes, some even played the piano and learned classical languages. Some were the product of their upbringing, while some surprised everyone with their ways.
Find out the hidden treasures of the lives of America’s most notorious criminals! What makes a minister’s son turn into a criminal? Whose criminal career was short but so significant that he was immortalized in a book?
