Story
William Warwick has always wanted to be a detective, and decides, much to his father’s dismay, that rather than become a lawyer like his father, Sir Julian Warwick QC, and his sister, Grace, he will join London’s Metropolitan Police Force. The fourteen short stories in To Cut a Long Story Short show Jeffrey Archer’s great skills with a wide variety of character, of subject and of setting, but all with that trademark twist in the tale. Every reader will have their own favourites: the choices run from love at first sight across the train tracks to the cleverest of confidence tricks, from the quirks of the legal profession - and those who are able to manipulate both sides of the Bar - to the creative financial talents of a member of Her Majesty’s diplomatic service - but for a good cause.

John Grisham is the acknowledged master of the legal thriller. In his first collection of novellas, law is a common thread, but America’s favorite storyteller has several surprises in store. “Homecoming” takes us back to Ford County. Jake Brigance is back, but he’s not in the courtroom. In “Strawberry Moon,” we meet Cody Wallace, a young death row inmate only three hours away from execution. The “Sparring Partners” are the Malloy brothers, Kirk and Rusty, two young lawyers who inherited a once prosperous firm when its founder, their father, was sent to prison.

Cat O'Nine Tales is the fifth collection of irresistible short stories from the master storyteller. Ingeniously plotted, with richly drawn characters and Jeffrey Archer's trademark unexpected conclusions, some of these 13 stories were inspired by the two years he spent in prison, including the story of a company chairman who tries to poison his wife while on a trip to St. Petersburg - with unexpected consequences.

Jeffrey Archer is my absolute favorite!
He is simply the best storyteller that I have ever come across. I have enjoyed every single book he has ever written and this one was excellent as well. I just wish he could write faster! I always dread getting near the end of the book because I want it to go on forever.

Great read!
I love these books. Jeffrey Archer knows how to take the reader and draw them in from the first sentence of the book and keep your attention throughout the book. Detective William Warwick is the best of detectives and the cases he gets will keep the reader wondering what is coming next. Love them.

Not very engaging
A very long unremarkable book. Very formulatic and characters seemed bland. I will try another Archer book but this one seems written for a bad tv show with a meandering plot and an ending that just peters out.
