Publisher's Summary

#1 New York Times bestselling author Sandra Brown delivers a riveting thriller where a conflict of conscience for a former football star and an ambitious state prosecutor swiftly intensifies into a fight for their lives.

Former Super Bowl MVP quarterback Zach Bridger hasn’t seen his ex-wife, Rebecca Pratt, for some time—not since their volatile marriage imploded—so he’s shocked to receive a life-altering call about her. Rebecca has been placed on life support after a violent assault, and he—despite their divorce—has medical power-of-attorney. Zach is asked to make an impossible choice: keep her on life support or take her off of it. Buckling under the weight of the responsibility and the glare of public scrutiny, Zach ultimately walks away, letting Rebecca's parents have the final say.

Four years later, Rebecca's attacker, Eban—the scion of a wealthy family in Atlanta—gets an early release from prison. The ludicrous miscarriage of justice reeks of favoritism, and Kate Lennon, a brilliant state prosecutor, is determined to put him back behind bars. Rebecca’s parents have kept her alive all these years, but if her condition were to change—if she were to die—Eban could be retried on a new charge: murder.

It isn’t lost on Zach that in order for Eban to be charged with Rebecca’s murder, Zach must actually be the one to kill her. He rejects Kate’s legal standpoint but can’t resist their ill-timed attraction to each other. Eban, having realized the jeopardy he’s in, plots to make certain that neither Zach nor Kate lives to see the death of Rebecca—and the end of his freedom.

Sandra Brown ALWAYS delivers the goods

I don’t think I could have put this book down under any circumstances. It pulls you in from page one and the characters hook you completely.

I’ve read all of Sandra Brown’s work and I truly don’t know how she gets better with each one. She is amazing!

The only problem I see is that I will have a significant wait until the next book.

Not typical Sandra Brown

I was disappointed in this book. Easy, fast, read but did not feel like a Sandra Brown book. No twists, no surprises, minimal character development. It’s not a bad story just not what you expect from Sandra Brown. Narrator was ok but not great.

One of her best

I’ve been appreciating Sandra Brown ‘s books since her romance writer days. Her books keep getting better as she evolved from romance to romantic suspense to creating her own special brand of mystery/thriller/suspense with richly developed characters. I loved Overkill and new-to-me narrator Kyf Brewer nailed it. Loved the twisty plot and secondary characters and the sensitively explored moral quandary. Great book and just right narration.

Save your money and credits

I finished the book but it wasn't easy. I truly don't believe Sandra Brown was the author. Publishers also picked wrong narrator.

Unfinishable. You couldn’t pay me to finish this book. A complete waste of time and money!

No story. Just chapter after chapter of silly sophomoric sex scenes. Wasted hour of my time.

Great book and great narrator!

I love the fact that all of Sandra Brown's recent books have been narrated by men. It's a personal opinion, but I much prefer male voices. Kyf Brewer makes Zach sound even sexier than the description of him. But this story was somewhat different than some of Ms. Brown's others and I enjoyed it very much. Of course, I've enjoyed all of her recent books, so no complaints from me.

A riveting story with just enough romance and intrigue!

Sandra Brown does not disappoint with this story. You listen to Kyf’s narration and he draws you in. An absolute stunning turn at the end which will bring out even the most even tempered person’s anger. Romance, twists and turns. Plenty for all!
