Publisher's Summary

It has been a week since Momonga logged in to his favorite RPG one last time and stranded himself there. Now he leads his guild as the Ainz Ooal Gown overlord. Finding himself in dire need of better information, he travels disguised as an adventurer to the walled city of E-Rantel, with Narberal the battle maid at his side. The pair accept a mission to retrieve medicinal herbs, making for a forest said to be the home of a great and wise beast. But the sinister influence of a fanatical cabal approaches E-Rantel, and the armor-clad Ainz will face both a ruthless warrior and a legion of the undead!

Another amazing volume!

Having the VA for Ainz read these light novels is genius. As a fan of the anime the light novels add extra details the anime didn't have run time for. Can't wait for the next volume!

just watch the anime

the reader's Clementine voice was annoying. There were also some mistakes in the flow of his reading that made some lines sound odd. Though Im not sure if it was just the way it was written. Some lines definitely could have used another take.

The story hits all the same beats as the anime. If you just watch Season 1 of Overlord then you dont really miss anything other than some internal monologues.

Overall this audiobook is good, not great. If you like the Overlord anime then you will enjoy it.

Okay, but too short

Considering how short these books are, I'm really hesitant about spending the points on buying them. The anime adaptation is basically word of word the books. I only started reading because I was hoping for more in depth lore and insight into the world building. But I'm not getting much of that. It's a fun story, but the harem fantasies are cringy; the torture and gore is just unnessisarily vulgar; and the power fantasies are overpowered so much that the plot has zero tension. This would have been such a good premise for a story if the author had just ditched the isekai cliché.

Awesome and Fun!

If you enjoyed the anime version and/or have read the books, you'll love this audio book. Even though it's only Chris narrating, he does an excellent job- oh, and he also voiced the character Ainz in the anime.

Another Banger!

A wonderful follow-up to the first light novel, Chris Guerrero continues to grace us with his wonderful voice acting skills for narration. Listening to this makes me hopeful for future light novel Audiobooks, I will certainly be purchasing the rest of the series and look forward to the new season of the anime premiering later this year.

High quality as usual but not without criticism.

Overall i'd recommend BUT Chris.... if you're reading this. Please pretty please read the names of the characters again. His name is NOT INFERIA. He ain't inferior to anybody. His name is Nfirea NFI.
Thank you. That's the only part that was so irritating. Other names cold be nitpicked a bit too, but it's fine.

Would recommend tho.

Ruined by awful american narration

Yet another entry into my "americans can't pronounce words" booklet. The same issues as the first book appear once again and i find it unbearable listening to all the mispronunciations and awful voices. As I said for my previous review, I have read the light novels many times and really enjoy the story so i wished to have it in audio form but it's absolutely god awful narration and i can't recommend it at all.

Good, but Too Short for Genre

Having listened to book 1 and book 2 now, I feel that these books are entertaining, but only a good value for money if they are on sale because the play time is so short relative to the sci-fi and portal fiction LitRPG genres which frequently deliver titles that average 15-25 hours long. Some go all the way up to 40-50 hours of playtime. With this in mind a mere 8-9 hours feels woefully lacking.

The stopping point for each book does come at a point where a goal is accomplished, but the goal is not so major that it feels like a satisfying conclusion of an entire novel. More like the end of a chapter. Based on what I've heard so far, it seems like these should be bundled as 2-3 installments per download to match the standards for the genre. Unfortunately I accidently bought book 4 already, so I will likely end up spending a credit on book 3, but I'm not really happy about it.

One of the better volumes.

A discordant tone between people shouting "Charm Person!", "Lightning!", and acting like its a video game on one hand; and the brutal reality of living in a fantasy setting where death lurks at every corner on the other.

One thing that I do like about Overlord are the plans and schemes. Humans plot against humans, the Guardians plot against humans, and Ainz plot against both humans and the Guardians. Possibly the best part of the story.

Likewise the infiltration of human society by Ainz and the Guardians is probably my favourite part of the story.

Love the series, too short though

I absolutely love the anime series and these books are fantastic as they add more information and story for the characters.
My only gripe with it is they are far too short and I believe it’ll be another 7 books until they even reach season 5 of the anime.
I’m okay with that in the way there is more information just would like a bit more length to each book.

I’m general though the series is great and I give it a 5/5, the narrator is great for lord ains and some of the male voices but the female voices are rather lacking. Still all in all 4/5 for narration and I look forward to the next day instalment
