Book is good ...but
The whole revenge as a driving factor thing is not well executed. The author wants us to believe that MC has been driven to an extreme mindset where he's purely motivated by the death of a loved one. It's a recurring theme ...it features prominently throughout the book ...but it has no teeth, it feels very forced, and IMO it detracts from the story.
It's just really bad, for example, when ur listening to the book and ur immersed in the story ...and the revenge thing pops up, it will yank u right out of the immersion. It doesn't flow naturally, n yea ...it bothered me endlessly.
Other than that though, I really like the book and I would highly recommend it.
It's a good story. The world building is pretty good, the magic system is nothing ground breaking, but it's solid, and the character development is good too (despite the revenge thing).
I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

I liked it. Great series!
This is probably one of the more lighthearted revenge stories I've read. Much happens in a small time frame that throws off the pacing. An example being the MC complaining about eating deer meat so much lately and being sick of it even though he has only been in overworld a day and a half and only had one real meal so far. This isn't the only thing, as the pacing and perception of the characters make it seem like months have passed when in fact only days may have. This made transitions less seamless as I'm wondering on occasion how much time has passed (despite the day log of each section) only to realize, oh I guess no time has passed, why are the characters like more time has though.
It could be just me but that was really my only gripe accept maybe how lighthearted his revenge seems to be. Just didn't convince me.
So why the high review?
I still enjoyed it enough to want to see what happens.
This is a good System apocalypse type story. I also like the MC magic ability. It's an OP skill but also double edged. He is likely to kill himself as easily as his enemy if he isn't careful. I like being able to do discovery on your own. Makes her very open universe for the author to work in and also allows a lot of crafting which is fun. There is a small amount of crafting in this and a small amount of spell crafting. There are lots of battles in there quite intense. However it seems MC has taken the lonely route so we'll see how the author handles bringing it in lots of support characters in future books. I look forward to more books in this series.
All in all, the pros outweighs the cons. Story is good and would recommend it to anyone interested in the genre.

Somewhat okay
Sometimes with these litrpg stories, two situations occur. In one case, the main character acts like Rambo, prepared to take down the evildoer alone. In the other situation, the world is destroyed, people are transported to a real-life gaming world. Millions still die, though, but the supposed main character’s loss is somehow worse than anyone else. The two scenarios are getting old, and I would have hoped that this series would refrain from their use. Sadly the writer does not, so, unfortunately, I can’t recommend this book.

narrator whistles in your ear all the time
the book is great, but my god the narrator needs to take two steps away from his microphone.
I can practically feel his lips against the microphone, whispering softly so that we can hear the pop of saliva in his cheeks, and every other paragraph the whistling sibilance of every S and SH sound he makes.
