Victims' behavior is changing to accommodate the rapid spread of the virus. Former Navy epidemiologist Cole Evans is well aware of the rare, infectious diseases the military studies. He also knows the government's stance on sharing information with the public, so if the media has already learned about the disease, then it's too late to contain the outbreak.

After an exchange student with bubonic plague turns up in a Reno hospital, a contractor with identical symptoms dies in Los Angeles. The government‘s official stance is that the cases are isolated and the outbreak is under control. But George Mack, a 30-year public health veteran, quickly realizes this is no ordinary plague. The death toll is too high, and the spread pattern make no sense. Publisher's Summary
And so it begins, the virus enters on the quiet feet of The Innocents.
It invades each and every one of us.
But, they say, plagues are like fires.
At some point, they burn themselves out. Or not.
Fear and rumor can be far more dangerous than the virus itself.
A new dystopian, post-apocalyptic fiction series from author Bobby Akart (The Blackout Series, The Boston Brahmin series and the Prepping for Tomorrow series). The events depicted in The Pandemic Series are fictional. They are, however, based upon historical fact.
In Beginnings, book one of The Pandemic Series, a deadly plague virus has been introduced across the globe by ISIS terrorists who are waging the mother of all wars - the Final Jihad. Dr. Mackenzie Hagan, a disease detective and epidemiologist at the CDC-Atlanta and Nathan Hunter, an off-the-books operative for the mysterious Project Artemis within the Department of Defense, join forces to both identify the disease, but also to locate its source.
After crisscrossing the planet in search of clues, Mac and Hunter realize that this infectious disease is like no other, and with the jihadists implementing the plague as a tool of bioterror, there is not just one Patient Zero, but thousands.
Mac, unwillingly following in her mother's footsteps, elects to disregard her orders which came straight from the President of the United States, and she rang the clarion bell, a warning to the world, that no one is immune or safe from the perfect killer.
Can a cure be found? Will the politicians who are responsible for protecting our nation from all forms of enemies warn the public? Is it too late? The saga continues in The Innocents, book two of The Pandemic Series.

Brilliant!!
In book 1, we saw the beginning of the virus. Mac wanted the threat to be widely known but the Government didn't want to. But things are getting worse. The virus has been diagnosed as the Pneumonic Plague but it has also been changed! It is now antibiotic resistant and there doesn't seem to be a cure. Mac is working with Hunter to try to find the cause and a way to either cure it or inoculate against it before it's too late.
The author has created one heck of a book. The level of detail is amazing and the amount of research he did shows. It's frightening to read how quickly it spreads. Also the way it's spread is ruthless and extremely scary!!! It really made me think and made me evaluate handshakes etc.
While the book isn't action packed, it's rich in detail and extremely well developed. The characters are all well written and you can't help but love them. Mac is trying to do all she can to find some way to help, but she is put under the bus so to speak and is blamed for the CDC not reacting in time. So Hunter, while trying to find the terrorists responsible for the outbreak, finds her another position and place to work. All the while both are trying to prepare themselves for the inevitable outcome.
I really like both Hunter and Mac. They just work well together!! I so love seeing their relationship grow and develop. I also can't wait to see more from Mac's mum and dad!! They sound intriguing and interesting. Definitely looking forward to getting to know them.
In all, a truly terrifying look into what could happen. It opens your eyes and makes you see things differently. Amazing book and I need book 3 yesterday!!! :)
John David Farrell and Kris Adams did a great job. Farrell has an impressive range of tones and voices and knows how to read well, Adams meanwhile, did a good job but what stopped me from loving it was that she kind of kept the same tone for all the female voices. I feel like if she was able to differentiate them a little, she would have been brilliant.

No One Suspects The Innocents
Sometimes I need a few days after finishing a book to write a good review. Sometimes this means that the book was terrible and sometimes it means that the book was amazing. In the case of The Innocents, it was the latter. Bobby Akart has really cornered the market with his mixture of medical thriller, post-apocalyptic, and dystopian series 'The Pandemic Series'. I think that this series has something for almost anyone to enjoy.
The Innocents continues where Beginnings left off throwing us right back into a world that is on the verge of an incredibly serious and deadly pandemic. It seems that no one will be safe.
The "funny" review line that I was able to come out with for this book was, 'it must be nice to have Bruce Wayne money when the world is on the brink of collapse'. I thought that numerous times since one of our main characters has a lot of zeros in his bank account (on the correct side of the period). Honestly, I thought this would bother me, but to watch how someone would prepare with basically unlimited funds was a point of view I've rarely seen in post-apocalyptic books.
The love story between the two main characters could have been cheesy, and a few times it was, but if you listen to real love stories of your grandparents or parents -- you'll find some of the same cheesiness. Love can be cheesy at times and when it's written in a book that's about the world on the brink -- it could feel out of place, but I think that Akart hits the nail on the head. It was the right amount of gushiness without going over.
Akart is able to pray on our fears as readers and Americans. He is taking stories that are out of the news and writing them into a fictional story that could read like tomorrows headline. Reading about things that you are already scared of, whether you know it or not, is always scarier. He can plant an idea in your brain. You'll stop reading, but that idea will grow to cause you to think about this book long after you've put it down.
The Innocents will be a book that I remember for a long time. The plague that Akart has written about and described for two books is utterly terrifying. It's incredibly researched and I cannot find any holes in his plots. This disease would absolutely annihilate the population if it was released in the world today. Preppers and regular joes alike wouldn't stand a chance against this disease.
Overall, if you couldn't tell from above, I really enjoyed this story and I cannot wait to find out what happens in the rest of the books. Akart is a master of suspense, keeping us on the edge of our seats. But, he does it with fact-based fiction that would scare even the most hardened readers.
I received a free copy of this book. It has not affected my review of my opinion.

Realistically frightening
Akart does a fantastic job of showing both the deadliness of the disease and the ineptness of political leaders effort to contain the disease. In The innocents, we the story focus on Hunter and Mac as a couple, as they continue to search for the terrorist and a vaccine.

Wow! Can't wait for the next book!!
I LOVE this series! There has been obvious research on this topic and Mr Akart has a great way of passing his research along to his readers without it sounding too clinical. As for our main characters... I LOVE the relationship between these two! Although this is a serious situation they find time to build a relationship and joke around with each other! Their relationship is one that most people would love to have! This series has excitement, action, reality and even a touch of romance! I'm looking forward to book 3.

Amazingly realistic!
What made the experience of listening to Pandemic: The Innocents: The Pandemic Series, Book 2 the most enjoyable?
The story line itself and the narration.
What does John David Farrell and Kris Adams bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Their incredible ability of bringing the characters to life.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I had so many emotional ups and downs. There were parts I chuckled at and others that I did cry.
Any additional comments?
As we saw in book one of this series Beginnings, the world is being overcome by a disease so savage that it does not discriminate between any race. Culture, sex or age. All those who come in contact with an infected person will die! The pneumonic plague is one of the oldest and dangerous diseases ever to come into being and it is on its way to killing most of the world’s population with no cure or vaccine in sight!
I am absolutely loving this series! Bobby Akart with his brilliant writing is taking us through the steps of what “could” happen to our world. His writing shows the depth of his research to bring us not just an entertaining story but information on what to do in the event we do face a pandemic in order to survive. The characters might not be real but seem to be and come to life on the pages. As many work to come up with a solution to the pandemic, people are dying by the thousands. Who will survive and will there be a last minute Hail Mary? You will have to read this outstanding story for yourself to find out the answers and I can tell you that you won’t be sorry! This is a series that I am recommending to all my friends and family without any hesitation.

Disappointed doesn’t cover it!
I really liked the first audiobook, but I couldn’t finish the 2nd. I became so annoyed by the shallow sociopathic behaviour of the 2 heroes of the book, their corny relationship and sappy one liners were cringeworthy in the extreme and mostly in poor taste given the fact that millions of people were dying and the world was essentially facing an extinction level event, they were devoid of any real emotion and didn’t seem to care, the female who was supposed to be smart, was so ridiculously idiotic and naive at the same time she was completely unbelievable. This one is going back.

BEST OF ITS KIND
I have listened to a number of plague books and this one is the best, mainly because of the research done. The information is accurate and presented in a clear style. The characters in the novel are well-rounded. I read the previous novel (Book 1) and couldn't wait to read the sequel. Can't say I'm sorry it's finished because the story continues in Book 3 which is on my wish list. Anyone who is seriously interested in Isis and the biological threat, using deadly viruses should read Bobby Akart's Pandemic Series.
