Publisher's Summary

What if Ariel had never defeated Ursula?

It's been five years since the infamous sea witch defeated the little mermaid...and took King Triton's life in the process. Ariel is now the voiceless queen of Atlantica, while Ursula runs Prince Eric's kingdom on land. But when Ariel discovers her father might still be alive, she finds herself returning to a world - and a prince - she never imagined she would see again.

I was so excited! Now I'm SO disappointed!

This story makes absolutely no sense. I get that this is a "Twisted Tale", but the twist is supposed to be that Ursula won instead of Ariel. Now all of the sudden Athena (Ariel's mother) has been dead for 100 years? Ariel was about 3 or 4 when her mother died. When the original movie came out, she yelled, "I'm 16 years old, I'm not a child anymore!" at Triton after she got caught going to the surface. She was 16 in the original movie. This book takes place 5 years later, making her 21. So how, exactly, is it possible that Athena has been dead for 100 years?

Also, Ariel sneaks into Eric castle and suddenly knows all about modern architecture? She didn't even know what a fork was when she was 16 and if Ursula won, Ariel would have no possible way of learning anything else about the human world. But she suddenly knows where all of Ursula's/Vanessa's perfumes come from? And Prince Eric, the dedicated sailor, is suddenly interested in composing operas now? What?? Why??

The worst parts of the book were the parts where Ariel essentially called herself stupid for choosing to make the deal with Ursula to become human or made it sound like the only reason she became human was to be with Eric. Like she gave up her voice and her life to be with a man and she absolutely did NOT. She wanted to be human long before Eric ever showed up. The "Little Mermaid" TV series showed that in detail and she sang "Part of Your World" in the original movie before she EVER laid eyes on Eric. She made the deal because her father was a tyrant who destroyed everything she cared about and shamed her for her fascination with the human world constantly. She was miserable and she wanted to be free. Free to explore the human world, free to learn everything she's always wanted to know, free to be herself, free to live her dreams and, yes, free to be with the man she loved. She may have been young and impulsive and stubborn, but, she was also as sweet and pure-hearted as she was brave. This character is not Ariel at all.

Ariel has been my favorite Princess since I was 3 years old. This story does not do her character or her story justice at all. I'm so sad right now.

Creative

I enjoyed the story for the most part. I even came up with what I thought would be the ending - I was wrong. I was engaged through the story, not wanting to stop, but the end was somewhat underwhelming to me. It does leave an opening for a sequel, however, if the author was so inclined.

Recording is a little shakey.

I noticed several times while listening that it was as if bits sounded like over-recordings. It makes the sound of the actual reading different and therefore at times hard to listen to. Other than that, the story was great.

Definitely not one of my favorites.

I didn't even mind not listening to the last 15 minutes. It just didn't catch or keep my attention For very long.

Great!

Hello!
This book was fabulous! I felt like I was rewatching the movie but like a sequel. Maybe like a what if episode!
Honestly perfect!
The only thing I didn't like about the performance.... is that Sebastion didn't sound Jamaican... I guess that's just the part of the movie I can't let go,

Wonderfully Creative Retelling

This story was well written and performed. The Little Mermaid has always been my favorite Disney movie and I felt this twisted tale stayed truer to what could have happened than some of the others have.

Great for little mermaid lovers

I really enjoyed this book. I just think it could have a better ending? I wasn’t as connected to the story at the end
