Stick and Rudder is the first exact analysis of the art of flying ever attempted. It has been continuously in print for 33 years. It shows precisely what the pilot does when he flies, just how he does it, and why. Because the basics are largely unchanging, the book therefore is applicable to large airplanes and small, old airplanes and new, and is of interest not only to the learner but also to the accomplished pilot and to the instructor himself.

Story
Almost every religion, spiritual practice, philosophy and person grapples with fear. The most repeated phrase in the Bible is “Be not afraid.” The ancient Greeks spoke of phobos, panic and terror. It is natural to feel fear, the Stoics believed, but it cannot rule you. Courage, then, is the ability to rise above fear, to do what’s right, to do what’s needed, to do what is true. And so it rests at the heart of the works of Marcus Aurelius, Aristotle, and CS Lewis, alongside temperance, justice, and wisdom.

These words, spoken to Brian Robeson, will change his life. Two years earlier, Brian was stranded alone in the wilderness for 54 days with nothing but a small hatchet. Yet he survived. Now the government wants him to go back into the wilderness so that astronauts and the military can learn the survival techniques that kept Brian alive. Soon the project backfires, though, leaving Brian with a wounded partner and a long river to navigate. Key points
Not sure if I’d say it’s worth the money. It’s worth listening to if you’re an audio learner. Still feels like it’s light in preparation for a checkride. Will update if I pass from this info alone. He does say I make a lot of assumptions in your knowledge. Which means to me this book is just a minor refresher for someone who is anxious but likely over studying meaning you could do without this book.

Finally!! The Commercial Checkride book is here!!
I used Jason's audio books for my Private and Instrument written and checkride prep and scored 92% and 93% respectively on the written tests as well as aced both checkrides at exactly the minimum hour requirements. Find yourself a great flight school and then subsidize what they teach you with Jason's programs. Super stoked the commercial checkride book is available now because I was disappointed when I couldn't find it back in December when I started my commercial course. Jason and I have spent many many hours in my car with him imparting his old timey wisdom on me. Glad he will be around through my commercial journey too!

To be the best you must learn from the best!
This book is an excellent addition to Jason’s “pass your private pilot check ride” book. For those who use the MzeroA system of learning it’s an absolute must read/listen to book. I credit Jason’s system of learning to passing my private written with a 90% and first time pass on the oral. I’m super excited to go for my commercial here shortly and expect the same excellence this time too!

Great for students on-the-go
I have used Jason’s audiobooks to prepare for my private checkride, and my instrument checkride. As I prep for my commercial checkride, having this available to listen to on my commutes allows me to continually study and prep. If you’re a busy person, this is an excellent method, and the explanations make it very easy to understand the material, rather than just memorize the material.
