Publisher's Summary

Once the Sith order teemed with followers. But their rivalries divided them in endless battles for supremacy - until one dark lord at last united the Sith in the quest to enslave the galaxy and exterminate the Jedi. Yet it would fall to another, far more powerful than the entire Brotherhood of Darkness, to ultimately realize the full potential of the Sith and wield the awesome power of the dark side as never before.

Since childhood, Dessel has known only the abuse of his hateful father and the dangerous, soul-crushing labor of a cortosis miner. Deep in the tunnels of the desolate planet Apatros, endlessly excavating the rare mineral valued throughout the galaxy, Dessel dreams of the day he can escape - a day he fears may never come. But when a high-stakes card game ends in deadly violence, Dessel suddenly finds himself a wanted man.

On the run from vengeful Republic forces, Dessel vanishes into the ranks of the Sith army and ships out to join the bloody war against the Republic and its Jedi champions. There, Dessel’s brutality, cunning, and exceptional command of the Force swiftly win him renown as a warrior. But in the eyes of his watchful masters, he is destined for a far greater role in the ultimate Sith plan for the galaxy - if he can prove himself truly worthy.

As an acolyte in the Sith academy, studying the secrets and skills of the dark side at the feet of its greatest masters, Dessel embraces his new Sith identity: Bane. However the true test is yet to come. In order to gain acceptance into the Brotherhood of Darkness, one must fully surrender to the dark side through a trial by fire that Bane, for all his unquenchable fury and lust for power, may not be strong enough to endure... especially since deception, treachery, and murder run rampant among the Sith disciples, and utter ruthlessness alone is the key to survival.

Only by defying the most sacred traditions, rejecting all he has been taught, and drawing upon the long-forgotten wisdom of the very first Sith can Bane hope to triumph - and forge from the ashes of that which he must destroy a new era of absolute dark power.

The Force is with Jonathan Davis

Would you listen to Path of Destruction again? Why?

Definitely. In fact, I've already "read" it twice. I got the print edition when it was first released in paperback and absolutely loved it. But after hearing Jonathan Davis read it, I would never go back to print. He brought this story to a whole new level.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Bane. This is his story, and for good reason. He's not a good guy, but you can't help but cheer for him anyway.

Have you listened to any of Jonathan Davis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. I just finished listening to Snow Crash and Jonathan is way better in this one. His voices are far more varied and they suit each character perfectly.

Any additional comments?

Path of Destruction is the best of the Darth Bane trilogy and one of the best Star Wars books available. I can easily recommend this to any Star Wars fan, but also to anyone who would enjoy a story about a villain unleashed. The pacing is great, the story is solid, and the characters cannot be beat. This book is well worth a listen.

Just wow, made the Star Wars interesting again.

Would you consider the audio edition of Path of Destruction to be better than the print version?

Yes, the audio uses real sounds from the movies, I felt like I could picture what I heard.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Bane, he's a badass beyond belief!

What about Jonathan Davis’s performance did you like?

His ability to play different voices without me really noticing it was him, few times I swore there was someone else.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Bane discovered the Unknown Planet.

Any additional comments?

Without a doubt the best sic-fi Audiobook I have ever listened to. It was so good, I listen to it a gain, but I have to finish the 2nd & 3rd!

Thrilling tale

Any additional comments?

I know this is completely nerdy of me to say, but I absolutely loved this book!

It was my first Star Wars book. It came highly recommended and I can now see why. The story line was believable and you really get to know and understand the characters. There was always enough action and twists to keep the story engaging, but not too many to detract from the actual story line.

On top of that, the performance was extraordinary! There was music and sound effects that, admittedly, made me giggle at first, but then really added something special to the story. They picked a great person to read the story. Davis's voice was almost seductive and made me want to keep coming back to listen. Each Character sounded different and he was really able to show emotion through his words.

I must admit, I did not get much work done while I listened to this audio book! Great Read! Your credits will not be wasted!

Great Start to a Trilogy

What made the experience of listening to Path of Destruction the most enjoyable?

Adapting the dark side to be an appreciable path rather than just a choice of evil.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Path of Destruction?

Seriously don't want any spoiler alerts here

What does Jonathan Davis bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

As a huge fan of listening to the Star Wars books this reader was an excellent vocalist. Most of the other books are by Marc Thompson, who is awesome. I'm glad to know that they can bring in someone else equally as good.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Peace is a Lie, there is only passion.

Jonathan Davis made this book feel alive. And the audio effects were an incredible touch. I can't wait for the next series. 10/10 would read again.

Awesome! Movie Worthy!

This story is so well written and so well performed. The story is dark and ominous very different from most Star Wars books in that aspect, but it really delivers on the plot. It’s the next greatest plot next to the story of Anakin Skywalker’s life.

Great Story, Fantastic Production

I really enjoyed "Path of Destruction". I found the story to be compelling and extremely satisfying. The narration and overall production (sounds, music, and voice acting) was exceptional. The characters were captivating and the stories being told from the position of the Sith and the Jedi were expertly done.

Do I have any complaints? I am not sure that I really have any. For me, this book was precisely what I look for when I listen to or read a book... a fun and interesting escape from reality. I thought the book was narrated to near perfection, it was well written, had great action, excellent dialog, and provided amazing production value through and through.

Very inspirational.

Absolutely love this book. I’ve listened to it more times than I can remember. It has everything a good story needs, PLUS! All the small details to make it from good to great. The vocals are also perfect. Bane’s voice is perfect.

Book one of the Darth Bane series.

Path of destruction takes you on a journey a long ling time ago in a place far away. Before most known lore of Star wars.

It follows the life of a Sith legend and shows you his struggles to greatness. You meet a wide cast of different characters all brought to life by a great narrator, Jonathan Davis, Which really pulls you into the story that bit extra

Another thing that pulls you in and is a fantastic bonus over the books is the sound effects. Just hearing the hum on a lightsaber just adds the extra oomf to the battles.

Its a must have for any Star wars fan or just anyone into sifi.

The great story writer Drew Karpyshyn really had made this series of books a great one which will make you just want to keep listening and hope it doesn't stop.

These are a must have in any Star wars fan.

Annoying background music over dialogue

Before the end of chapter one, it became clear that music would accompany all the action sequences. That works in action movies, but not when you are trying to hear what the narrator is saying. Shame, it looked really promising, but will return it unlistened-to.

Really dark Star Wars story. Surprisingly Great

Initially, I wasn't sure if I would enjoy this audio book, but the more I listened, the more I became hooked. Interesting characters, plot twists, intriguing lore, the book has the lot, and then some.
Also, the use of music gives certain moments an extra layer of epicness. The narrator also does a great job with the various voices, which gives real life to the story. Wish I had heard of this book series before. Loved hearing from the perspective of the Sith. Now on to the second book!

Holy Shit this is good!!!

Probably my favorite SW novel so far along with Plagueis
I’ve read Dart Vader Dark Lord Rising, Plagueis, Dooku Jedi Lost, Master and Apprentice, THRAWN and I must say this one kept me locked in from start to finish.
It’s well written and the narrating is amazing. Already eager to finish the trilogy.

The production is always fantastic with the special effects and music.

Darth Bane is the ultimate Sith and this book really shows why his legacy lives on a millennia after his death.

One of the best Star Wars books

This is one of the best Star Wars books I have ever read! The story is very exciting and the whole book is a "page turner". The performance by Jonathan Davis is fantastic! He is me favourite as he does not over-dramatize or make weird womens voices (like Marc Thomson does). Cannot wait to get started on vol. 2 in this trilogy. Highly recommended!

My Review

I just finished listening to Star Wars Path of Destruction, which is the first book in the Darth Bane Trilogy.
This was an amazing Audio Book which is about the orgin story of Darth Bane, The legendary Dark Lord of the Sith, who started the Rule of Two and whose legacy would lead to Darth Sideous and the destruction of the Jedi.

The charecters in this book were fantastically written as well as the presentation of the time period of the Old Republic. The narrative performance was brilliantly done as well as the music & sound effects, it was at the level of and audio Drama.

The only criticism would be the main twist in plot did not blow my mind and I did see it coming but that is it.

So overall I give this Audio Book 5 out 5

First Star wars book i've tried and Amazing!

Been put off in the past for trying a Star wars book because I didn't think it would capture the same love for the on screen action and storys as the TV shows, video games or movies. I could not have been more wrong! Love this book that it has me so entranced to finish it as soon as I can. For anyone craving more Star wars this is perfect place to start.
