It has been thousands of years since beast-kind were united under one banner. The empire encompasses most of the known world, driving out or enslaving the lesser races without mercy. In a state of constant war and conquest, they have perfected the art of battle. For commoner wolf-kind Valian, being accepted and trained in a noble house's army was a dream come true. Without wealth or a family, it was his best shot at attaining honor and glory. Until fate intervened. When Valian discovers he's descended from an ancient and long-thought-extinct line, everything changes.

Publisher's Summary
The moment has come to follow the Path of the Specialist. Will our friends attain the elite specialties for which they are aiming?
Training at the Shelter, led by the Mother Specialist and tutored by the four Elder Specialists, is turning out to be more intense than any of them had expected. The proficiency test will determine their future, and they will have to prepare and practice harder then ever if they want to graduate with the highly valued elite specialties.
But that is not their only concern. They will have to face new mysteries, strange characters, unusual situations, dangerous experiments, bewitched jewels, great predators, conspiracies, and murder attempts in a place that oozes arcane power that's thousands of years old.
Will they achieve all this? Will they solve the mysteries that surround them? Who will reach the elite specialization? Who will fail? Who will survive...and who will die?

This is the Best Book in the series so far!
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS
As the Headline said this is by far the best book in the series by far in my oppinion. Lasgol finally finishes his training, he get the two specialty that suits him best and isgord got what was coming for him. and it couldn't have ended in a better way in my oppinion. Lasgols love life takes a huge leap in the right direction. he gets the best possible familiar that he could get.
And now he has finally Become a Specialist Ranger and is headed for his first Mission, meaning him and his friends has/had to split up and for the first time he is alone and theres not a trustworthy ally in sight. Maybe now that he is alone and he needs to fight for himself and can't rely on his friends he will finally build up his trust and confidence in himself and his magic and dosen't see his magic as just a "Cheat" but instead a bonus and a way for him to become a much better ranger.
Oh and a strange new secret Organisation has set their sights on killing Lasgol, that even the "Mother specialist" and the elder instructors in the specialist camp is afrait of.
The only bad thing i have to say about this book is that as usual Camu dosen't mature at all he can telepathic speak better with Lasgol and he gets bigger but other than that there haven't really been any progress in the last (i don't know how long 1 ranger training period lasts) 6 year or if a ranger training is only half a year then 3 years. Camu is still this playful disobedient child that don't really listens to Lasgol exept when its really serious/dangerous, and of course Lasgol dosen't really try to train him at all even though he could easily do so when he was trained his new familiar.

I think a computer wrote this book
I feel like this book was written by a computer. It uses the same language all the time. This series annoys me a lot. The amount of times it uses the phrase “red as a ripe tomato” for example or fascinating it’s fine for Agel to use it all the time but not everyone else. And then it’s like another person wrote this one from I believe book 3, his mother told him she had intercepted his crate and put the egg in it now in this book when asked where the egg came from he said it was his Dad and that he was glad he didn’t know.
Then they explained in this book twice that the ring translate the ice language and when he got a letter he acted like he forgot. It’s so bad
And then lasgow never thinks he’s gonna pass the test even when he was the best at them. Omg. I honestly don’t know why I keep listening to these books.
And the signs. He made a sign of excitement. And don’t even get me going on how he doesn’t want to use his magic what an idiot this training is suppose to get him ready for the real world. The whole idea is dumb he doesn’t really have that great of skills.

Good but predictable
Character development is slight, when a test has gone clearly in their favor they're ALWAYS surprised they passed (hit x to pass, the person barely hits it before a fail condition). Doesn't introduce new aspects, just reinforces things we know. I know it's supposed to be funny but the amount of times "fascinating" is used became tiresome personally. Good action and suspense, good series if you can prevent over-analyzing and just enjoy the show. Great narrator, as John Banks always delivers.
