Publisher's Summary
When Amy MacKenzie agrees to attend a meeting at a local spiritualist church, the last person she expects to hear calling to her from beyond the grave is her son. The son whom she'd only spoken to an hour before. Then the body of a young man is found inside a neolithic stone circle high above the city of Glasgow and forensic scientist Rhona MacLeod is soon on the case.
DI Michael McNab is certain it's a gangland murder, but Rhona isn't convinced. When a second body is found in similar circumstances, a pattern begins to emerge, of a killer intent on masterminding a gruesome Druidic game that everyone will be forced to play ...

OK story, great narrator
The male protagonist DI McNab is an idiot and it's unbelievable that 2 women in the story risked their lives for him as he bumbled along insistent in pursuing the villain with no coordination or backup so that those trying to help in the investigation could also pursue the villain blindly and at risk as well. Not a "bad boy but u love him anyway", he's a jerk. Of course, this is a certain stereotype, the "go it alone" cop, but he's worse than most--totally unbelievable. But the story was mostly OK, and the narrator is wonderful to listen to.

First book first rate!
Having been lost in the wilderness of boring books for a while it was fantastic to find a wee gem!
Had not heard of this author so I assumed that this is the first book well it's a belter.
The narrator was great and I will be looking for more by her.
The story centres on newly promoted DI McNab whose first case in the rank is a series of murders which appear to be an online game with a Druid backdrop. His love life is complicated but he clearly has links to the forensics specialist Rhona and the sexual tension between them adds an interesting dimension.
I loved the main characters and hope this is the start of a new Scottish detective series.
I also enjoyed the spiritualist angle which gave the story a paranormal spin not unlike Oswald's books Natural Causes etc
This is five star give it a go!

Yes, as the plot twists and turns. A great opening.
Have you listened to any of Sally Armstrong’s other performances? How does this one compare?
First time I have heard Sally but perfect narration
Any additional comments?

a twisty turney thriller
I enjoyed this story after nearly not continuing because of the bad language. This was a shame that it was felt needed. I would not recommend this to anyone I know because of this. However, if you don't mind the "c" word... The narrator was very good, hence the performance stars. I marked the story and overall down because I was disappointed in what could have been great without the strong language.

Gave up half way through.
This book started out brilliantly and I thought I was on to a real find in the modern detective genrè. Half way through its over 70 chapters and I am *so* bored with all of the characters. There are no twists and turns, just another murder by some serial killer, another sex scene, another bit of concocted "excitement ". With such a long book, one would expect a bit of character development but no-one gets any deeper than considering if/who they will/won't shag. One of the main characters is a forensic scientist but the forensic work is covered in about as much detail as "CSI for 6 year olds". Much more detail is used for the clunky and unnecessary sex scenes. This book should have been a third as long as it is, then perhaps it may have been slightly more engrossing. Quite good but monotonous narration.
