Patriot Games

If you like Tom Clancy this is a terrible abridgement. It leaves all the important parts out.

good book, but disappointing abridgement

The story's great, the narrator is very good, but the abridgement is disappointing (although someone who has not read the book would probably enjoy this abridgement, despite the fact that many of the best characterization bits are missing). The completely unnecessary musical interludes are horrible - very melodramatic, corny, quite distracting.

Incomplete

DO NOT BUY THIS VERSION!! While Martin Sheen is excellent, only a tenth of the book is included. There is another version that has the whole story. Look at the length of time when selecting. It doesn’t have Sheen but at least it’s complete.

Excellent On All Counts

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Anybody who is an action adventure or Tom Clancy fan should enjoy this book, which is non-stop action in a realistic context.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jack Ryan is a main character in a series of Clancy books. The character is real, human, and personable, with a family and children. He is an unlikely hero who always finds himself in situations where he comes to the rescue.

Which character – as performed by Martin Sheen – was your favorite?

I have always enjoyed Martin Sheen's voice. In this case, he performs all the characters well, but I particularly enjoy his characterization of the main character, Jack Ryan.

Not what I expected

Wasn't prepared for the massive amounts of story missing with the abridged version. Would have preferred if Martian Sheen read the novel in its entirety.

So disappointing

It seemed like it was 1/2 a story. Really disappointing. Clancy. Martin was OK as a storyteller

A short story. Man I gotta start reading the length before buying

It’s Clancy so of course it’s a great thriller. Martin Sheen is 1 of the best at his game as well. Yep, I gave up a full credit for this little short story. Maybe I’ll play it again back to back so I’ll feel like I got my money’s worth. Live and learn

Disappointed that it's not the full book

I was really looking forward to hearing the full book, not an adapted shortened version of the novel. I'm rather upset that I wasted a credit on this.

Just not long enough.

Great story and narration but no where near as good as The Hunt For Red October.

Abridged at cost

This abridged version faithfully tells the action scenes, but at the cost of character development. The reader’s subsequent lack of investment in the characters diminishes the dramatic punch even of the action scenes.

More problematic is Martin Sheen’s narration. Sheen is a fine actor, but his reading here is terrible. Characterisation is minimal and everything is rushed. Surprisingly bad.

If choosing between this or the unabridged version, go with the latter.
