My name is Jemma Blackburn, and I have a secret. I know vampires are real. I watched one murder my father eight months ago, and even though they tried to convince me it didn't happen - that I'd lost touch with reality due to the trauma, I know what I saw was real. Hollow Hills is now the place I call home. It was supposed to be my chance at a normal life. My chance to bury my secret and start over.

The upheaval in my life began the moment a prince stumbled into my house and asked me to read his fortune. Any other night, I might have made an excuse to get him to leave, but this was no normal visit. My fingers prickled to touch him. So, I granted his request by handing him a single wishbone. When he snapped it, the wish...bled. Hearing me suck in a shocked breath, he asked what it meant. Such an ominous omen could only mean one thing: His death was imminent. Fate revealed that he wouldn’t die of natural causes. Someone wanted him dead.

Overnight I’m thrown into the realm of the Watchers, a society of earthbound angels split into two factions: the Shades, whose powerful dark magic is given to them by the fallen angels, and the Lumens, whose abilities are bestowed on them by the archangels of Avalon. There’s only one rule in the world I come from. Keep our existence a secret. Period. The day my sister broke that rule one too many times, I knew there would be consequences. I expected us to be sent to one of those schools for “troubled” kids - and maybe Daizlei Academy was, in a way. But really, it was far more complicated than that. You see, I thought that world had forgotten me. Forgotten us. For years we were left alone, and one day...we weren’t. It was only when I got there that I remembered the second rule: Trust no one.

Mercenary Casia Greythorne cares about two things: completing whatever her latest job is and earning enough coin to buy the expensive medicine that's keeping her mentor alive. So when the king himself offers her a job, she can't resist the massive reward he offers - even if it means working with Captain Elander, the arrogant, mysterious right-hand to that king. Her partner may be infuriating, but at least their mission seems simple and quick enough: investigate the origins of the strange plague that's been ravaging their empire, help find a cure, and then call it a day.

Reluctant to try it but quickly fell in love!
I really enjoyed this book! The description made me hesitant to try it because it was a little too vague but I think that is because a lot happens in the book. Karen Lynch created a very balanced main character and that is the biggest thing I loved. She was brave and could stand her ground, but was also very aware when she was out of her league and needed help. She wasn’t afraid to allow others to help, which was a refreshing change from the obnoxiously stubborn heroine in the relentless series. I found this book way better than Relentless. The dialogue was a little cheesy at times and there was less connection between the romantic interest than I wanted, which is why it is four stars instead of five.

Hunter Ascending
An amazing new world full of creatures new and old. An extraordinary new heroine who is strong, loyal, and a force to be reckoned with. This is definitely a story to remember.
I have had the pleasure of experiencing this author’s other series before having read this new series of hers, and she has certainly outdone herself this time! The world-building is exceptional, the characters are so well developed, and the creativity shown in the formation of new breeds of fae speaks to her incredible skills as an author.
Jesse is a fearsome 18-year-old bounty hunter with a mission: Find the people who abducted her parents and bring them back by any means necessary. But in order to gain the information and street-skills she needs to successfully recover them, she will need to become a hunter just like her parents, and take up the family business. She will also need to accept the help of some unexpected allies. But can they be trusted to help her, or will she pay the price of trusting too easily? One thing is for certain: Things will never be the same for Jesse James.
Caitlin is an excellent narrator with just the PERFECT cadence to her story-telling. I would highly recommend this audiobook to audio-readers!

Karen What ?
Ok I get it I loved the Relentless series. But so far just no.
The main female charter is fine, and I enjoyed her for the most part. Except for thee end of the book. Wait there was no end to this book.
No closure of any kind what so ever. The story plots where all off as well which we will get into later. And the main male charter is so bad I don't see how you can save him. There should be no redemption arch for him. If there is that would make your female protagonist supper weak and pathetic. Through out the hole book you see how good she is. But he finds it so easy to believe she this bad person, who would torcher a person to death Really! Especially when you see how much she loves her brother? And saves a guy she doesn't even like all that much but risks her own life to do so. Ya that make sense, NOT! Most of the book has plot holes all over the place.
1- She has a ability to sing a Fae to almost a coma state but stops using it pretty much after the first Fae she catches.
2- she leave Brooklyn for the fist time in her life and she this master mind of this big plot to kill someone she wouldn't even know.
3- she has a Fae Goddess stone in her hair and has a big Fae library to look the stone up and doesn't.
4- And lets not forget her parent's where in the cage next to her to prove her innocence but doesn't ya that makes senses.
I could go on and on but I think you will get the point. Lets also remember she's only 18 years old just out of High school. So as far as a romance goes we don't even know how old the main protagonist is.

Great start to a new series!
I purchased the book and read it twice within the first week. I recently received the Audible book and have listened to it twice as well. The story is great. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. Caitlin Kelly has the perfect cadence. The changes in her voice let you know who is talking. She did are great job. I will probably listen to it again within the week. Thanks Karen and Caitlin for a great book!

Good start, waiting for more
Let's give a round of applause 👏. Finally, a Young Adult novel where the heroine isn't an idiot, doesn't need a love Triangle to feel special, and isnt some special snowflake just realizing her powers. Thank the Cliche' Goddess!
There seems to be an obsession with girls being virgins. Also, an addiction to having kids with missing or dead parents. Are these the requirements for submitting it as Young Adults???
Anyway, the book was quite good for YA. I'm not saying the lead male couldn't have used some more depth. But all in all, I found it more entertaining than some of this popular stuff being pushed through my recommendations. I was expecting a cliffhanger but this one makes me want to spam the author until she gets Book Two out on audio asap

You’ll want to listen over and over.
I love the world Karen created for the Fae Games!
This book can be read as a stand alone, but I suspect once the other books come out it will also be a great set up to a kick ass series!
Jessie is a young woman trying to find a job in a world where the fae her parents read about in books are now real, and the rift that happened to merge the 2 worlds has thrown the world into chaos.
Jessie’s parents are bounty hunters and disappear, leaving Jessie knowledge and tools she will use to try and find them.
If you’ve ever wondered what our world would be like if sprites and goblins were real and Court Faries had clubs you could hang out at, you’ll love this book.
Caitlin does a fantastic job as a narrator and really brings this story to life.

The worst part of the experience is that the next book isn’t out yet, because I am officially hooked! I had come across this one as I was aimlessly searching for a potential new book or series to start...and I am so glad that I picked it! The Narrator did awesome, and made the story really come alive. I’m bummed that I have to wait for the next one to be released...but thanks to this book I have set my standards high for this series, and will be reading other series from this author.

Good story.
I enjoyed the Refuge series by this same author, so decided to give 5his one a chance. As the first in a series I sometimes found it confusing remembering all the characters especially since it was introducing essentially a new world with new folklore and rules. I think this was harder as an audio book because of this. However, after everyone was introduced and the story picked up, I loved it. Very nice story with likable characters.

A good narration can take a brilliant story and turn it into a completely new and even more brilliant experience. This audiobook is another wonderful example. The narration is perfect and to the point. You can see the different characters, you get pulled in and can't stop listening. Another absolutely amazing book and audiobook by an author whose books are some of my favorites that I have read and re-read and listened to countless times.

Ruined by the ending
Even by the standards of YA fiction, the characters in Pawn lack any sort of depth and the plot is riddled with holes and inconsistencies but for some unknown reason, I still found myself enjoying it. BUT the ending was dire. It didn't work AT ALL. It's a shame because it was obviously done to create some character conflict for the next book in the series but it was so poorly done that I really can't see how the author can rescue the series.

Loved it!
Karen is my Squealy Queen. Her books make me squeal and giggle like a teenager.
This new series is very fast pace and fun. Mysteries are not very mysterious, but I don't mind a little obviousness.
Ok, I forced myself to write something, before I go start the second book.
So yeah, the book is great. Highly recommend 👍

Pawn
This is a fantastic first book for the series, I have already listed to it so many times, can't wait for the next one. Read brilliantly by Caitlin Kelly. What a journey.

LOVE this book!
Karen Lynch is one of my all time favourite authors, and Pawn did not disappoint!
I prefer the paper version but that might just be because I read it first and thus pictured some of the characters differently... This audio version is really /Very/ good!
Pawn has the same narrator as Relentless *I think*, which is oh so good btw! -so once you’re done binging fae games you should read those too🙊😉
It has a strong, female lead that’s not like anyone else I’ve read, annoying and handsome fae, witty dialogue, some mystery, and a whole lot of awesomeness. Read it. Now.

Jesse rocks!
Love this storyline, so original with a strong female lead. I particularly enjoyed the idea of her little pixie brother who’s just adorable.
The narrator really brings the characters to life and makes certain scenes sound so dramatic when they need to be.
I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to listen to number 2!

***Unputdownable, Brilliant and Spell Binding***
I always love Karen Lynch books and this is no exception wow I can't get enough of Jessie James and Finch aww he is so adorable. Ok my heart broked because of Lucas's and friends betrayal I can't believed how dumb they are believing a drug dealer who I want to strangle grrr it's as plain as day that Jessie's been set up but their too stupid to realised it. Anyway I want to see their reaction when they finally figure things out. Caitlin Kelly you are brilliant in your narrative, excellent both on female and male characters thank you x
