Jess needs a fresh start. She’s broke and alone, and she’s just left her job under less than ideal circumstances. Her half brother, Ben, didn’t sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash with him for a bit, but he didn’t say no, and surely everything will look better from Paris. Only when she shows up - to find a very nice apartment, could Ben really have afforded this? - he’s not there. The longer Ben stays missing, the more Jess starts to dig into her brother’s situation, and the more questions she has.

Melville Heights is one of the nicest neighborhoods in Bristol, England. It’s the sort of place where doctors and lawyers and old-money academics live. It’s not the sort of place where people get stabbed in the back 30 times with a kitchen knife in their own homes. Someone must have seen something. Newlywed Joey Mullen, for example, recently returned from four years of working in Ibiza. She and her husband, Alfie, are eager to find a place of their own in her hometown. But Joey finds herself distracted by the man next door, Tom Fitzwilliam.

Good listen
I enjoyed the book but I don't like figuring it out on my own long before the book ends. I thought I knew who the "villian" of the story was but then I realized I was wrong & quickly realized who it really was. But I love listening to Georgia Maguire narrator, that made it a really nice book also. It is worth the listen but if you're a mystery buff you might figure it out too.

Original storyline, somewhat predictable.
I really enjoyed the novel, though it was predictable at times. The author did drop subtle hints throughout in an attempt to mislead the reader, and there was definitly a 50/50 about the main 'villain' in the end. I really liked the back and forth between past and present in a controlled way, chapter to chapter, versus just randomly flipping between them. Lastly, while I really enjoy different accents of the world, I, living in the Southern US, found the narrators accent almost mesmerizing. At times I would get hung up on words and get lost in the narration, versus listening like I should. Might be a personal issue, but not sure that I've run into that before. Absolutely nothing personal against Georgia Maguire, she was terrific! In the end, good read, good narration, would recommend.

Gripping, very very addictive!!
Firstly, I finished this book in 48 hours so prepare to be addicted! The story unfolds and very cleverly twists and turns and just as you think you know how it will play out, it changes and you’re sent off on another thought!
I found myself thinking back to certain characters and their entrances into the story to determine if I thought they were responsible! Ha ha I felt like Jessica Fletcher!
I love Gemma’s no-nonsense style and lack of flowery-ness. She gets to the point but in a very descriptive way so that you get a great vision in your head- and Georgia Maguire narrated the book perfectly. She has a voice that splits into characters so effortlessly.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I would highly recommend this to anyone who’s looking for a book to enthral and captivate you!!
