Publisher's Summary

"The only thing you’ll find on the summit of Mount Everest is a divine view. The things that really matter lie far below." (Peak Marcello)

After 14-year-old Peak Marcello is arrested for scaling a New York City skyscraper, he's left with two choices: wither away in juvenile detention or go live with his long-lost father, who runs a climbing company in Thailand. But Peak quickly learns that his father's renewed interest in him has strings attached. Big strings. As owner of Peak Expeditions, he wants his son to be the youngest person to reach the Everest summit - and his motives are selfish at best. Even so, for a climbing addict like Peak, tackling Everest is the challenge of a lifetime. But it's also one that could cost him his life.

Roland Smith has created an action-packed adventure about friendship, sacrifice, family, and the drive to take on Everest, despite the incredible risk. The story of Peak’s dangerous ascent - told in his own words - is suspenseful, immediate, and impossible to put down.

Bro fest🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮spoiler alert.

Written in 2007, this book is very outdated and I would doubt anyone would publish it today. The fact that it is fiction and the author intentionally wrote the main character as he did is frustrating. All of the female characters which are 3 total, other than his two little sisters. The author writes each female character with real stereotypes 1) diva princess Holly, 2) doctor as a caregiver 3) mother as all giving selfless innocent. At one point the author writes about how Holly’s voice is finally less shrill after being on the mountain for awhile. Yikes! The lead character constantly speaks of his astonishment that she hasn’t died yet or that she has a Sherpa doing all her heavy lifting. The story is so ridiculous and unbelievable. This story about a rich, spoiled, self indulgent brat at age 14 avoids punishment for breaking the law because of rich step daddy and heads to China basically alone to hike the largest mountain in the world. The reader really overplayed Peak’s self righteousness. The story is so unbelievable, I’m just glad it’s over.
