Publisher's Summary

America’s growing political and cultural divisions have finally split the United States apart. Now, as the former blue states begin to collapse under the dead weight of their politically correct tyranny, a lethal operative haunted by his violent past undertakes one last mission to infiltrate and take out his target in the nightmarish city of Los Angeles, deep in the heart of the People’s Republic of North America.

National Review’s Jim Geraghty calls Kurt Schlichter’s People’s Republic “a surreal, fast-paced journey through a dramatically different America but less than a generation away.... Violent, imaginative, full of mordant humor and dark, gritty details, you won’t want to live in this People’s Republic...but you’ll feel a chill as you wonder how different our real future will be.”

Author and television host Cam Edwards says, “Kurt Schlichter's People's Republic is a roller coaster ride through a post-election Hellscape that will leave you wanting more.” Radio host Hugh Hewitt says, “Schlichter puts a whole flight of Black Swans in the air - each of them plausible - and the result is a riveting, page-turner, and a demand from Schlichter for...more.”

People’s Republic is the first novel by Kurt Schlichter, a retired Army infantry colonel, a conservative radio and television commentator on the Fox networks and elsewhere, a Senior columnist at Townhall.com, and a popular and hilarious Twitter raconteur. He's also a trial lawyer, so he has an intimate understanding of evil and deception.

Radio host and commentator Ben Shapiro calls People’s Republic “chilling,” and author and columnist David Limbaugh calls it “a thought-provoking action thriller set against the backdrop of a shattered America.”

Fox News contributor and author Katie Pavlich says, “They say conservatives are terrible story tellers, but Kurt Schlichter destroys that stereotype in his new novel People's Republic and issues a dire warning about the future of America.”

As with his prior book Conservative Insurgency: The Struggle to Take America Back 2013-2041, People’s Republic takes today’s news, and projects the trends out into the future. Funny, frightening, and action-packed, People’s Republic is a thriller that will make you think, as well as keep you captivated.

Narrator tells the story in ALL CAPS.

the story is great but the narrator is effectively yelling at you the entire time and makes no vocal distinction between characters so you tend to get lost in the conversation

Fun, entertaining and, unfortunately, a window into the future of the United States. Move to a red state so you end up on the right side of the wall...and buy this book.

Worst narrator EVER - Yells the story @ You

0 stars for the absolute worst narration of a book I've ever listened to. He has horrible cadence and every word is like someone yelling a story at you, with no change in voice for characters, and the non-dialogue narration is spoken in the same horr8ble "ALL CAPS" sarcastic stress-inducing tone. I don't know of I'll be able to listen to the whole thing.. I'm only on chapter 3 and it's unbearable. I was excited to listen to this while driving, since I do A LOT of driving...but unfortunately I think I'll have to read the kindle version instead. GET A NEW NARRATOR. I will pay double for each audiobook if you get a narrator who isn't yelling the story at me. It severely takes away from the story and makes it difficult to follow along. Like a giant run-on sentence of yelling. Yeesh. Sorry but I have to say it. I really hope the author sees everyone's reviews about the narrator and changes it, or at least gets someone else for future books in the series. He'll, I'll volunteer to do it, I'm not a professional but I'm confident I'd do a better job at conveying the story and immersing the listeners. Rant over. Great story though! I don't have anything negative to say about the story's premise and plot so far.

Get another narrator

A picture of the probable outcome if we keep going. Great story and I wanted to listen on the road. but I could only take so much of the narrator before downloading the Kindle version. The narrator sounded like he was about to give himself a hernia if he kept up his level of snark. Tony Katz's Kelly Turnbull emphasized the sense that Kelly is as much an elite for the red side as the elites on the blue side. Kelly is a well-trained military commando with survival skills, lives alone on a 500 acre Texas spread away from civilization, and in spite of the contempt he seems to have for those needing rescuing from the now very red Los Angeles, under all that noise it sounds like he actually enjoys the adrenalin rush. I think Kurt said the narrator was his personal choice, but I'd like to hear a reading by an older, more seasoned voice. While I get that the character needs to be young and reckless, it’s just that the narrator is a turnoff. The story itself seems almost plausible and the Orwellian feel is starting to look more real these days.

Narration kills a good story

surprisingly prophetic story line considering when this book was published. good premises and story but the narration is awful to the point of ruining the story.

get Ray Porter on this one for sure.

Reminds me of a Babylon Bee Prophecy

Excellent book all around. I think people are too hard on the narration in other reviews here. If you just turn the volume down a little compared to what you would normally listen to, it is just fine.

I found it kind of funny listening to the forward about how many things the author was referring to as jokes at the time he wrote it, and as I listen to it now, I wonder how many of the scenarios the book presents were meant as exaggerations for the sake of humor when it was written, but have become so close to what has sadly become too close to reality to tell apart any longer.

It reminds me of Babylon Bee humor articles which later turn out to be predictions. I guess the two situations have the same cause.

This probably does not bode well for the future.

It's a fun read though and I'll definitely be picking up the rest of the series. I am not sure if I can wait for it to all come out on audio and will have to actually resort to reading words on a page for fun again.

Incredible World

Kurt is a genius at world building and looking ahead to the future. I’ve enjoyed all of the Kelly Turnbull novels and I hope Kurt keeps writing them for years to come.

Great Book

If you like action and humor this is the book for you. Kurt painted a perfect picture of how ridiculous things would be if the USA split in half and Leftist policies and ideology governed the half of the country made up of blue states. This needs to be a TV series.

Great thriller with a chilling glimpse at what could be. Kelly Turnbull is the hero we need.
