Publisher's Summary

It starts like any other Monday for Ty Christianson. Fifty laps in his pool, a suave suit, a chat with his mum on the way to his office, dodging countless calls from women, and his faithful yet cynical assistant waiting for him with a coffee. Then a meeting with his business partner and life-long friend Sal upends everything. Sal's hired a new assistant without so much as consulting Ty. That's a cardinal sin in their world, but it's the least of Ty's worries. Sal hasn't just hired a new personal assistant, he's hired an absolute goddess - and she's off-limits to Ty.

Lainey Summer drives Ty crazy with her savage beauty, her effortless sexiness, and her unfathomable veneer. She plays her cards way too close to her chest, and doesn't that just make her more enticing?

Unlucky for Lainey, Ty’s notoriously irresistible.

Unlucky for Ty, Lainey can resist him.Or can she?

As Ty sets on a mission to break Lainey, an intended conquest becomes a fixation.

And in the process, he’s thrown into perfect chaos.

First Jodi Ellen Malpas book I didn’t like

I’m shocked that I wouldn’t like this books so much, but there are numerous reasons. I don’t remember if I’ve ever rated a book so low.

1. It takes nearly 5 hours just to get them together in the actual same scene. And even then their conversations and banter were quite droll until the second half.
2. Tyler and Lainey’s relationship doesn’t make sense. They’re both mistrusting, vindictive, and toxic. Tyler’s behavior when he’s under duress is also not attractive, and quite frankly quite scary. If I ever saw a real man act so physically even when not directed towards me, I would be panicked and concerned. For his well being and mine. He’s a ticking time bomb.
3. It's half-finished. Even when Tyler finds out the truth about Lainey, it’s never explored or examined in a deeper context like in This Man. Everything is just swept under the rug. It’s like a cop-out to just forgive everything in the name of love. These are not lighthearted betrayals; it’s an abuse of trust. Lainey and Tyler are not good people in essence and it makes it hard to be empathetic.
4. It bothers me that Tyler’s best friend and family would push him to Lainey after the revelation. That’s not what support looks like. Yes, friends push, but it’s usually when you’re being an asshole. Yes, Lainey and Tyler had their cute moments, but she hurt him to the extremes. How can you as a best friend or mother excuse that? No matter if your heart lingered on someone, if he/she/they hurt my loved ones, I would fight someone. Tyler did nothing wrong; he’s the victim and they pushing him towards her minimizes the hurt he experienced at the moment. Where was Gina at that moment? She would’ve torn Lainey a new one.
5. Even his friend needs some form of couple’s therapy because their relationship isn’t healthy either. What Moira did to Sal is not okay. And how they treat each other in general.

I love JEM’s writing style but this story was just a no for me.

As for the narrator, I liked Blake Stanton’s voice but it can sound like a British butler at times, like Alfred. He portrayed Lainey as a soft-spoken or dainty woman but that’s not the kind of woman Lainey is so it was jarring.

A good book, but felt unfinished

First let me say that I love JEM and hate that I have any negative feedback, so I say this with love. I found parts of the book to be a bit redundant and the ending fell flat and abrupt. The story felt unfinished to me.

Wow!

This was my introduction to author Jodi Ellen Malpas and I couldn't have loved it more! What an emotional rollercoaster!!! It kept me engaged and on the edge of my seat up to the very end. Along the way I fell in love with Ty and Lainey. Shane East did not disappoint and blew me away with his narration. He so effortlessly gives every character brilliant depth, emotion, and their own distinct voice. Have your tissues ready for the gut wrenching performances he delivers! Bravo!

Kept me wondering!

Ty and Lainey’s story is one for the books. See what I did there 😏 Ty is take aback by this new girl who flaunts into his life without warning. She takes his heart by storm and runs with it. Promising to never hurt him. But she has this secret he can’t figure out and you sure won’t either. Love love love this story of triumph and overcoming fears! Need more of their story Jodi! 🥰

Shane East did an outstanding job with Ty's story

This book gets 5 stars because of the fantastic narration by Shane East. If I had just read this book, it might have been 3.5-4 stars. This book is complete Perfect Chaos. I almost didn't listen to this one (even though I had already purchased it) based on a lot of the reviews. I'm not much of a fan of the manwhore trope. Most of the time the guy is ending his whoring ways at the beginning of the book so we don't usually have to "see" it. Ty was not that guy. He is completely proud of how he is with the many women that grace his bed. Things change for a bit when he meets Lainey, his partner's new assistant.

There is something about Lainey that is wreaking havoc on his personal life. He literally can't get her out of his head. Maybe because she doesn't seem the least bit fazed by him or his appeal. He also knows that nothing can happen with her because she works for him. But when he witnesses Lainey and hears about her with many different guys, he thinks that he has met his equal when it comes to their sexual prowess.

Eventually these two give up their fight of staying away from each other but things don't work out the way Ty hopes that they would. Lainey seems very indifferent once their tryst is over. Plus it appears that she has gone back to her previous ways with many men. Of course Ty retaliates (which I was not a fan of but in the end understood why he did what he did). As the book went on, I really started liking Ty a bit more chapter by chapter. His feelings for Lainey were really changing him.

It took me a long time to even like Lainey much (which I think is because we don't get any of her POV, the entire book is from Ty's POV). I would have liked to have a chapter here and there from her POV so that we could get a better grasp on what was going on with her. I'll admit that I really didn't like her once her truth came out. She possibly caused a lot of heartache that wouldn't have happened otherwise.

I also think this book desperately needed an epilogue. I needed something more than just how the last chapter ended.

This book I think is much better having listened to the audiobook. Shane East is truly an amazing performer and did an outstanding job with Ty.

Best Shane Ever Performance To Date

Warning: You will end this book frustrated, but there is a HEA. Just not the HEA you maybe had in mind.

Ty Christianson is the best book boyfriend I have read in 2021. He is complicated, funny, complex, and emotionally damaged in the best ways. However, Lainey Summer will drive you crazy as much as she drives Ty insane through half of this book. This book is a marathon, not a sprint. The first half is a major slow burn, but then it starts to pick up after Chapter 16. Since the entire book is told from Ty's POV, you feel more connected to Ty than Lainey. Feelings toward the female MC may have been better if this was dual POV.

The twists and turns are insane. Just when you have the story figured out, you don't. Actually, you won't know anything until the last chapter. Then.... it..... just.....ends. Now, I have never been fully appreciated epilogues until this book. They really do put the perfect bow on a series.

Because of the hefty length of this book, I was glad to be an audiobook listener because it really made the reading experience go by. Perfect Chaos is narrated by Shane East. There are several emotional scenes in this book that he handled near perfectly. The final pool scene is an award-winning performance.

Bad narration

This book Could have been so good but the narration totally spoilt it for me , I’ve seen Jodi comment distinguished well that’s certainly not my interpretation.
I don’t think she reads reviews but there are some stellar narrators out there but her publishes tend to let her down if only she would speak to some of her co authors They put such effort into there choices if you insist on English Shane East , Richard Chamberlain Will Wyatt, all English , Sebastian York (king of narration) Joe Arden although Americans do a splendid English accent , Edita Brychta was fantastic for her first two trilogies

Please please take this on board and stop rubbishing her books , Shane east re did this book 100% improvement

Great immersive story

I really enjoyed the story, not unconventional yet somewhat different in style within its genre. The voice acting was ok, apart from a man reading the female dialogue — slightly cringe! The Perfect escape if you need a moment away from reality.

Helen, I salute you!

wow

I absolutely loved this book. A beautiful love story sexy, steamy scenes that actually enhanced the book but didn't make it seedy. i will definitely read this over again and I have no doubt that I will enjoy it just as much the second time around. The characters were so believeable and the narration was spot on. I highly recommend this story. I gave 4 stars to performance because I like female narrators too

a fabulous rollercoaster ride

what a fantastic book. Loved the story and absolutely adored Ty and Lainey. Perfect narration from Shane East. That man could read the phone book to me and If be happy.

The side characters of Gina, Sal, Moya, Ty's mother and her beau, and Martha were great additions too. The story traveled along at a nice pace, the sex was hot, hot, hot, and the setting was sexy. I honestly couldn't fault this book. This is my first Jodi Ellen Malpas book (yeah, I know, where have I been?), but it won't be my last.

Ok

I have read many books by Jodi and have enjoyed them, but I didn't love Perfect Chaos. For me the plot dragged. If it had been somewhat shorter then I think that I would have enjoyed it more.
Shane East of one of my favourite male narrators and his performance during this book showed his skills beautifully. with a clear voice, full of emotion, his performance hit all the right notes for me.

Usually get the story line and the characters of this author, the female in this is not likeable at all, could not understand where this was going and honestly why I should bother listening to all of it. Would not recommend at all

Didn’t enjoy this one if Jodi’s

Normally really enjoy her stories but this one just irritated me. Couldn’t stand the female character her character was so hard to understand even once knowing her past, just a player and I really don’t agree with treating others how you’ve been treated if it’s been badly. The other characters were great though and I actually enjoyed the narrator.

Perfect Listen

This is my very first book from Jodi Ellen Malpas and definitely not my last. I chose this book due to my favourite British narrator Shane East. Who can resist 15 hours and 28 minutes of solo Shane in their ears! Ms. Malpas beautiful writing and Mr. East narration was the perfect combination.

With any books that Mr. East narrates, you will get a total performance, he has this in depth understanding of every single characters that the authors wanted to convey and he performs them to a tee. This book is no exception, I’m very impressed with Ms. Malpas clever writing, she wrote a very complex characters especially with Tyler Christianson and to read/listen to the whole book in a man’s point of view was fascinating. It actually worked because along with Ty I was riveted as a reader/listener and I was desperate to find out Lainey Summer's secrets which Ms. Malpas kept me guessing up to the very end. I suggest having tissues on the ready for the final chapter, Mr. East deserves an award for his outstanding narration for that chapter alone and Ms. Malpas knows exactly how to tug at my heartstrings. This struck a chord with me personally. One of my best read/listen this year.

** 5 Star MUST-LISTEN **

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Outstanding performance by narrator Shane East, bringing this fabulously written novel by Jodi Ellen Malpas to life with his depictions of angst, humour and emotion to absolute perfection.

An absolute must-listen.
