Publisher's Summary

Audiobook two of the Dark Imperium trilogy.

As the Plague Wars rage on, the Emperor's will manifests in Ultramar through miracles that confound the primarch Roboute Guilliman, even as he must rely on them when he faces his traitorous brother, Mortarion.

Listen to it because

The battle between faith and science lies at the heart of Warhammer 40,000. Guy Haley explores it here as never before, through the eyes of Roboute Guilliman - the ultimate believer in rationality and the Imperial Truth.

The story

In the void and upon the worlds of Greater Ultramar, the battle for the Imperium continues.

Intent on rebuilding his home realm and using it as a base to reconstruct the ravaged stellar empire of mankind, the returned primarch, Roboute Guilliman, proceeds with his war to drive Mortarion and his Death Guard Traitor Legion from the domain of the Ultramarines.

But when Guilliman brings his brother to battle upon the diseased plains of Parmenio, the intervention of a greater power in their fraternal struggle threatens to upend the Imperial Regent’s understanding of the galaxy, and his place within it.

Primarchs and ideologies clash in this thrilling second part of the Dark Imperium trilogy.

Written by Guy Haley. Narrated by John Banks.

Good story but actual story is short

I have listened to the first two books in the series and both have good overall stories. The writing style for me is something I do not care for though. The actual story is buried in long descriptions of objects or locations which add some to the story, but could be shortened. This would allow for more of the actual story or even character development. Again, this is just my preference and others may enjoy the rich descriptions. The presentation/reading has been great for both books.

Dissapointing.

do you like books that feel like nothing happens, no one is in any real danger, and nothing of real significance actually happens? this is your book.

disconjointed

first off the narration is top notch. the story is all over the place and makes no sense. every time the story gets going the chapter ends and it jumps to something completely different. The description of the setting while nice burries any plot to be had. far too many characters to keep track and most are non essential to the plot. No central protagonist or antagonist; supposed to be about guillemam versus his brother mortarian but there's very little of that. I really don't care for the chaos perspective, there no point to it as far as I can tell.also don't care for the para religious talk. this is a book about the ultra Marines who are not religious. could not finish it.

Pretty alright I guess

Fairly good but thought the first dark imperium was better and hope godblight really throws it all together. Wish there was more grim dark in the story…

Beautiful but...

Need more voices for characters, I constantly confused Felix for Guilliman, otherwise phenomenal story, I felt for the primarch and even the chaos daemons, the ending was especially emotional, cannot wait for Godblight!

A cracking instalment in the series.

The humour and pathos in the descriptions of the vilest creatures of Nurgle was a genuine delight to read. Another great tale by Hayley.

Fantastic Narration

John Banks' performance is outstanding. Don't make the same mistake I did and have the audio cranked to hear over the car's heater because when he starts yelling it's brown trousers time.
