Publisher's Summary

In a city that could well be New York, a series of identical women are found dead in suspicious circumstances. Magazine photographer Johnny Farthing, who is reporting on the suspected murders, is chilled to discover that his fiancée looks identical to the victims, too—and then she disappears. As his investigations spiral beyond his control, he finds himself at the heart of a sinister plot that uses cloning to revive the Nazi vision of a world-powerful master race....

Terrible. Can’t believe it’s John Wyndham.

Seriously, I can’t believe this is John Wyndham; the writing is painfully clunky and I’m afraid the narration, somewhat staccato with long pauses that almost seem to turn commas into paragraph breaks, just emphasises it. I couldn’t get past chapter two. Other than this book and Web, I’ve listened to every Wyndham book on audible and though not all are up to the standard of Chocky or his other classics, I have never had a problem finishing one before. It’s almost so bad you have to laugh.

Performance was poor

An interesting storyline a little hard to understand the English at times in a large part due to the person reading it,

Surely not by John Wyndham?

I love John Wyndham books but I did not manage to listen to most of this one. I sent it back after a few pages of because I just couldn’t listen any more to the rendition or the story.

Plan for disappointment

Story line had promise but developed too slowly.
The end was really underwhelming and needs a re-write.
Narration was "peculiar"!

Fantastic

This was so good. I’d never read this before, the narrator did an amazing job, his voice is perfect for this kind of story. Brilliant writer, l adore Wyndham. The thing that makes me think is how many multiple births happen now. And, being in Australia, it was especially cool hearing the ending. I really admired the Aussie accent attempt too. Fantastic stuff.
