Publisher's Summary

It’s nothing but a casual hookup. Temporary, with no strings attached. It’ll be over in a few weeks, and we’ll go our separate ways. What could go wrong?

Jessa

Have you ever wished you could turn back time and do things differently? Like that one time you decided to use your ratty bra as a weapon and almost took out the eye of your dad’s hot doctor? Yeah? Me, too.

But my nylon ninja skills must’ve impressed him, because he kept coming around, heating my blood with those tight jeans and sexy smiles.

As hard as I tried, I couldn’t resist him. So I decided to make a deal. A few weeks of fun, then we’d go our separate ways.

Rafe

My life was perfect - just the way I wanted it. Or at least it was until the day I met Jessa Maddox.

Beautiful and feisty, I couldn’t get her out of my head, and I kept making excuses just to be near her.

When neither of us could deny our attraction for another moment, we made a bargain.

No strings. No commitments. Just a cool and casual fling that would run its course before Jessa headed back home and out of my life, for good.

It was the perfect situation...until it wasn’t.

And I needed to figure out what I really wanted, because Jessa Maddox was no “here today, gone tomorrow” hookup.

She was just what the doctor ordered.

Playing with the Doctor is Book One in the Milestone Mischief Series. It is a hot stand-alone novel with no cliffhanger.

Fun listen!!

Looking for a funny, easy, romantic listen? I have it right here for you! Playing With the Doctor is exactly what you are looking for. Jessa is going home. Her father is sick and she wants to be there with him. What she doesn't expect to see is doctor making house calls! Rafe is the one that in school took no notice of Jessa, and now he is in her parent's living room! The one you quietly wish for! And he keeps coming back, even though her father is doing better. There is something about Jessa that Rafe cannot get off his mind. When the two finally give in and decide to give in to their lust while Jessa is there, it is explosive. But we know how feelings grow. These two are both carry a set of baggage though, and can't get out of their own way, let alone have a relationship. Or can they? Funny, great characters, family, , passion, healing, it's all there in this story that will give you that all around feel good warmth. I enjoyed this story and can't wait for Nate and Ivy next!

Blake Lockheart and Lee Daniels are fantastic narrators and together they bring out the best in this story. Each with their own voices, the personalities and feelings are given to us. The comedic timing is spot on and their performance will make your heart soar. Get ready for a good listen!

This is such a good story! I loved all the antics, family/friends conversations and all the amazing characters! The two main characters are a treat. I easily enjoyed listening to them and their inner thoughts. Their friends and family are adorable. This whole story made me laugh and smile.

I did listen to this on audio. Blake Lockheart and Lee Daniels are both new to me. They did a great job and made the characters come alive. This is one to listen to over and over. I eagerly look forward to the next in the series.

A Wonderfully Heartfelt Romance~Awesome Narration!

I enjoyed this fabulously heartfelt and delightful book immensely, it grabbed my attention right from the start and captivated it the entire time. It is my first book written by Piper James, she is a gifted author with a wonderful writing style, the characters and storylines she created are original and interesting. The characters are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with, they were easy to care about too. I adored both lead characters, Jessa Maddox and Rafe Walton, each broken in their own way and battle with their own issues and demons from the past. Jessa returns home to tend to her sick father, she was not expecting his Doctor to be at the house, their first meeting was a funny and memorable one. She remembered Rafe from school, it disappointed her he had not remembered her. Despite that, she found herself attracted to him and he to her, the chemistry between them was sizzling, but neither was looking for a relationship. They could only deny each other for so long, and they agreed to enjoy each other’s company while she was in town. All that was fine and dandy until their own insecurities and feelings got in their way. I loved how everything played out in this book, the story was light on angst and there was a perfect balance of drama, humor, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. The lighthearted and humorous moments countered the heavier ones nicely. Piper James, thank you for this enjoyable and entertaining romance novel and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Lee Daniels and Blake Lockheart are the perfect cast to bring these characters to life. They had a complete understanding of the characters they portrayed, giving each a voice that is the perfect fit for their character’s persona, sounding believable in the role they play and just as I pictured the character to sound. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the character’s emotions and projected them into their performance. These two are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another fabulous listen!

Book 1 - Milestone Mischief

What a great romance, just enough angst with our two main characters - Jessa and Rafe. This was a well written, perfectly narrated (loved this duo) sweet / steamy romance read. Can be read as a stand alone although there is a lead as to who will be our book 2 main characters - super eager for that one now - and a HEA that is sure to please! I loved how these two just came across so realistic - I can totally see the miscommunication, angst, friendships, banter ect being me or anyone I know - so I loved that. I also appreciated the balance of sweet and steamy and the relationships shared outside of our main characters - Jessa with her dad and new found besties and Rafe with his family and bestie - great dynamics and banter. A light hearted, sweet read / listen that has me eager for more!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Fun, romantic story!

Only in town to care for her father, Jessa has every intention of going back to Atlanta until she meets Rafe, her father's doctor. When Rafe makes a house call to check on her father, Jessa knows Rafe doesn't remember her from their school days., but they are instantly attracted to each other. As they get to know each other and agree to a "friends with benefits, no strings attached" arrangement, will they be able to stick to the plan or throw caution to the wind and fully commit to being in a relationship.

Love Jessa and Rafe's story! Blake Lockheart and Lee Daniels were wonderful narrators.

Friends with benefits steamy romantic comedy

4.5 stars Jessa is back in her small hometown taking care of her dad, when she meets his very hot doctor in a very humorous and embarrassing circumstance. He’s also someone she used to know from school, but she’s certain he doesn’t remember her (he doesn’t - at first). She’s also not interested in a relationship, especially when she’s planning on going back to Atlanta and her regular life after her dad is better. And Rafe isn’t interested in a relationship, he’s hyper-focused on his career and responsibilities as a doctor, which have a much deeper meaning to him. But they’re also very attracted to each other - so why not make a deal. Nothing serious, just some fun, and then when she leaves town, that’s it, no big deal, party’s over. Yeah right, of course it never quite works out that way, does it.

Jessa and Rafe have great banter, his teasing and cajoling, her awkwardness and sass, they actually compliment each other perfectly, even though neither really wants to admit it. It’s a sweet, romantic, steamy story of friends with benefits that never quite ends the way it was intended.

Audiobook review: The narration is great, the characters are emotional and real, and it definitely added to my enjoyment of the story.

Sweet, hot, and beautifully performed!

I adored this book. It was beautifully written, the characters were wonderful, and the heat was off the charts awesome. I loved the injection of a bit of humor throughout as well. This was my first Blake Lockheart listen but will definitely not be my last. He is a brilliant narrator! He compliments Lee so well and they were a great duo for this book. Can't wait for more from this series and author!!

small town romance

This story had me laughing out loud! it was supposed to be only friends with benefits while Jessa was visiting her father during his sicknrss.
Her dad was a sly old devil, he saw the connection between his daughter and the young doctor, Rafe. He faked being sick longer, so Rafe would return for house calls.
Jessa didn't know falling for him and leaving would be so hard.
I loved listening to this story narrated by Blake Lockhart and Lee Daniels. they are entertaining and a joy to listen to.

Refreshing with Excellent Narration

Playing with the Doctor, the first book in the Milestone Mischief series is, a wonderfully written and refreshingly light. Both the storyline and the characters captured and held my attention. Raph and Jessa are absolutely charming, delightful, a bit awkward, and totally appealing characters. They were made for each other, a perfect match, and I really enjoyed their energy and banter. Their story was sweet, amusing, romantic, funny, and even steamy; I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.

Blake Lockheart and Lee Daniels did a fantastic job of portraying Jess and Raph's personalities and connection. They made the story come to life. Playing with the Doctor was a fun listen, one I'll recommend.

*chef's kiss* amazing

I received this audiobook at my request via promo code from The Flock and this is my honest voluntary review.

The banter in this book between Jessa and Rafe was fantastic! Jessa is a keep-your-heart-in-a-cage bartender called home to keep an eye on the family bar while her dad recovers (as slowly as his acting skills will permit him.) and Rafe is her fathers doctor, reluctantly in on the ruse... and struggling to keep his distance from his patients gorgeous daughter.

Blake Lockheart and Lee Daniels do an amazing job at bringing this casual-not-casual no-strings attached but all tangled up romance to life as the two navigate how to open up their hearts and take a chance on love. Each of them have their own issues, Jessa runs from love because her mother abandoned her, and Rafe, feels guilty because of his own past and like he has to stay in control to make up for it but each of them are so hilariously in denial about the instant connection they feel.

This was a great read, and personally having a sick family member in recovery, her dads matchmaking antics and manipulating his doctor had me in stitches.

Doctor

Great narration from Blake Lockheart and Lee Daniels

This started with humour and steam and kept on going .
Jessa and Rafe's romance had me both smiling and putting my head into my hands at their stupidity, but that's to be expected as every relationship has their ups and downs.

Really good

I really enjoyed listening to this and I laughed out loud at their first meeting. I could just imagine Jessa’s embarrassment having to face Rafe after what she catapulted at him 😂

The good doctor!

Jessa goes back home after a health scare from her dad. The dad’s doctor is gorgeous. The doctor that as a teenager wouldn’t give her the time of day. It’s romantic and warm, with a meddling dad and new friends. Dr Rafe will have to decide if he wants something more than a fling before he loses Jessa. I enjoy their shenanigans and the narration was on point.

Fun, cute and good narration

This was such a fun and easy read, it's my first book by Pipper James but it won't be my last. The characters are really likeable and it has great secondary characters.

Jessa and Raph are amazing together, great chemistry from the beginning, the banter between then is really fun and let's not forget about the great sexy moments they had together.

I loved Jessa's friends they are the kind of friends every girl needs.

I really can't wait for Ivy's and Nate's book I bet is going to be really good.

As for the narration, it was perfect. It's my first time listening to either Lee Daniels and Blake Lockheart and they both did an amazing job bringing all the characters to live, they have great voices, paced and tone, which made the book so much better.

Amusingly awkward but heartwarming!

This is the first book I have read from Pippa James but I can guarantee that it won’t be the last. This book had it all- funny, sweet and slight awkward couple (I loved both Jessa and Rafe so much. Their initial interactions were beyond funny and the awkwardness of attraction felt realistic). Through the ups and downs, the author did an awesome job of keeping it light and fun. And it was even better as an audiobook! Blake Lockheart and Lee Daniels were both amazing narrators- fantastic pacing, really nice infusion of emotions and humor into their voices. Overall, a great listen!

Some laugh out loud moments

Chapter 7 stops abruptly missing several pages of narration. Otherwise a good story with good narrators. Liked the side characters too.
