York August Sixteen was abandoned as a baby, abused and molested as a child, and beaten and harassed as a teen and had his rightful place in the Republic's Space Navy stolen from him. Fighting back against huge government systems was useless. Dispensing justice on an individual, case-by-case basis was more to his liking, yet even that was taken away when he was stationed on a lonely communication space station. York's life would change when he decided to seek justice for people even less fortunate than him.

Story
Eric was born in a world governed by the Great System, in the family of Aren Bergman, a respected miner from Orchus. But the joy of gaining a son was overshadowed by the newborn's terrible affliction. Eric was completely nulled-level zero and no characteristics points. The only things keeping him from dying were his tiny base supplies of "life" and "energy". The medicine woman who delivered Eric believes this to be the work of the evil spirit, Bug. Due to the peculiar laws of the Great System, Eric cannot use experience essences or characteristics tablets.

Publisher's Summary
Penelope Akk wants to be a superhero. She's got superhero parents. She's got the ultimate mad science power, filling her life with crazy gadgets that even she doesn't understand. She has two superpowered best friends. In middle school the line between good and evil looks clear. In real life nothing is that clear. All it takes is one hero's sidekick picking a fight, and Penny and her friends are labeled supervillains. In the process Penny learns a hard lesson about villainy: She's good at it.
Criminal masterminds, heroes in power armor, bottles of dragon blood, alien war drones, shape-shifters, and ghosts - no matter what the superpowered world throws at her, Penny and her friends come out on top. They have to. If she can keep winning, maybe she can clear her name before her mom and dad find out.

Fun for the whole family
So I picked up this book when it was on sale on audible because my son was wanting to listen to a book. As it turns out we ended up spending the better part of every night for a full week sitting on the couch and listening to this wonderful book together. My son isn't a big 'reader' but this has encouraged him to explore books more. As for me, I loved it as well. It was well written and fun. It is fast paced with interesting characters and comic heroes. I am a big fan of comics and super heroes and have been for years. This scratched the itch perfectly and had the added bonus of bringing my son and I closer together. I HIGHLY recommend this book and we can't wait for the next two to come to Audible! Thank you Richard Roberts!

An amazing book with bad-ass characters.
I don't generally like children books, but this book is so well written that it would have to be my second favorite book.

LOVED IT! But...
I really enjoyed this book. What I can't say I enjoyed was listening to the sexual comments made in EVERY chapter. I personally am not comfortable having anyone younger than 15 read this, let alone listen to it.
Everything else was great. The characters, the banter, the use of words and the great descriptions!

loved it
goofy, zany, funny. loved the whole book and idea behind it. altho, i really do feel so sorry for penny. i wish i could go into details but anything i say will spoil some part and this book is too good to do that to. you'll either have to listen to it or go get a hard copy to read. i hope and pray the author doesn't stop with just this book in this series.

If This was a Jury, I'd be the Holdout...
I seem to be alone in my assessment of this book. But I found it totally lacking in fully realized characters that I had to put in my own preconceived attributes of teenagers and comic book superheroes. I needed more reality, more descriptions of the world they live in.
Almost everything was just told instead of shown. We got characters telling about the super heroes and villains without actually being in the story. And the author goes to great lengths to describe the workings and mechanisms of the devices that I found to be so dull because it was like, who cares if the altenator circuit thing doesn't have the proper wires? That's not the reality that is needed.
To be fair, I admit to stopping listening a bit more than halfway through so maybe it really picked up later, but I just couldn't wait.
And, by the way, I enjoy YA series with superheroes like Ex-Heroes, but those were well-written, clearly establishing the world that these well-defined characters lived in.
Sorry, it's just that with a title so compelling, the book really disappointed.

Great story for middle-school students
Any additional comments?
First book in the Please Don't Tell My Parents series.
This is a great book intended for middle-school students about three 13 year olds who do the wrong thing for the right reason and are labeled supervillains as a result. It contains wonderful world building, a great plot, and developed characters.

Great Book for Comic Lovers
I really got into this audio book, after listening to the first few chapters I was hooked. It is amazingly detailed and weird and while some may think of the book as young it really fantastically handles the implications of child supervillians while also neatly sidestepping the issues. After listening to the audio book now I have to read the sequel!

nice and funny.
a tale of a wannabe super hero who somehow drifts into the role of a super villain and becomes pretty good at it. it's funny because no matter how much she tries everyone including her parents take it the wrong way.
