Publisher's Summary

From the age of 14, Caitlin was completely controlled, repeatedly raped, provided with alcohol, given drugs, sold and passed on to new gangs over and over again. The majority of her abusers were Pakistani men, who were blatant in their attacks upon her, often collecting her from school or home, to be taken to flats they owned, family homes or hotels booked for the day, to be horrifically and systematically abused.

At a time when the abuse ring realities of young white women in Rotherham and other major English cities are coming to light, Caitlin's story will appal listeners - not just because of the degree of horrific attacks which were perpetrated upon her but also because of the ways in which the authorities refused to act.

Caitlin speaks openly about what she has suffered and also shows just how unwilling many people are to face up to what is happening in our midst, for fear of being called racist. By bravely speaking out, she will hopefully prove just how deep these problems are and just how the abusers get away with it in plain sight of the authorities.

So Brave!!!

Thank you for your vulnerability. Such raw detailed timeline of events. I am sorry the system failed you. I appreciate the time you took to write this book and to get it out there. I was trafficked. I continue to be the voice for the voiceless as well. I pray peace for you and your daughters. Much love to you.

only at Chapter 3

I started listening earlier today, I am now at chapter 3 and already having a VERY difficult time listening to this story. it could so easily be any girl, me. anyone that it makes it that much more real more difficult. I have not yet even reached the truly horrific parts and it is so real that as good as this book is, as well written, I find it hard to listen to.
Maybe in print it would be a bit easier, but I don't know.
so for anyone looking to read this, the writing is very good, the details me it very real but the subject matter is difficult. I personally am lucky enough to have never experienced anything even close but for those who have, my heart breaks for the girl you were and I admire the woman you were able to make it thru and survive to become.
I wish I knew how to help girls forced/stuck in this situation bc I would.

Beyond Cruelty, Beyond Mercy

This true story of a young teenage girl’s mind-control by a series of sex traffickers is beyond understanding: why would some human beings choose to be such merciless bullies? The account appears authentic though and Rachel Atkins delivers a stellar performance as the narrator. I had thought I knew a fair amount about sex-trafficking but I did not know how horrific the specifics are. This is definitely an informative book but not an easy one to endure (even as a listener).
Please stay safe now, Caitlin Spencer!

A must read book for change

I really just want to write to the author and tell her she was never to blame which I hope she knows now. Her”parents” were just two people who lived in the same house. Were they paid too by the Pakistani’s? As an Emergency Room nurse, I promise to look more closely for and stop at nothing to help identify and support /help sex trafficking victims. Thank you for showing us this ugly truth so we can make changes!

Informative and profound read

This is a well written saga. The author did a great job telling her story. This read is highly informative and extremely profound. It is a must read. Warning: strong language and explicit descriptions of sex. Do not judge the book harshly for this if you are a strong conservative individual. This is how her story needed to be told.
To the author,
Thank you for sharing your story. You are not alone even if you feel you are sometimes. You have truly spoken for women that are enduring the same hell that you endured for years. Thank you! Stay strong. And please, let the guilt go for the many abortions that you had. I say this to you as a pro-life individual. Hold your head up high because you did the best that you could do. Everything that you did, you did with a mother‘s heart.

OMG!! This book must buy this book.

Caitlin, I hope you are able to read these reviews to know how much YOU ARE BELIEVED. I know some reviews say it is a bit repetitive, but you explain why that is. This book is of a woman telling her story, it’s not a fictional novel. It’s real life.
I came across this book while I was looking for a novel by a similar title. I was unsure if I should buy it and I’m glad I did. It is not a comfortable read, but it is a complete eye opener. Thank you for telling your story Caitlin. I have got to say that I thought the narrator was very good, as always.

Brave Brave Girl

As a mother myself, I am horrified how parents, friends and family could not see what was happening. A heartbreaking tale of what can happen when kids / teens are neglected and parents get too busy. I know parenting is hard, growing up is also hard. I hope that anyone who has gone through this and survived that you can one day find peace and love in your life.

The most harrowing story I've ever heard

This story will stay with me forever. The details of the abuse the author endured are horrific. The constant failure of the people around her to act is gut wrenching. The hardest part for me to hear is the author's ongoing guilt, shame and trauma. At one point, the author believes the reader must be thinking "why would you let them do this to you" and it broke my heart. I can only imagine how many times she's been demonized by that question.
If the author ever reads this, I never felt you 'let' any of the abuse happen, you are so brave to share your story knowing many readers will feel this way. No one wants to believe this horrendous abuse would happen to them, their sisters, daughter's etc. I was a privileged, white 14yr old girl, well behaved and did well in school, but I was painfully timid and scared of disappointing my parents, I have little doubt those grooming tactics would have worked on me. The only difference is my poor self esteem prevented me from ever applying for the 'Models Wanted' job in the paper .
Those of us in western cultures like to believe human trafficking only happens in far away places, or bygone era's. Thank you for writing this book and bringing light to the horrifying fact that this is happening today, in all societies.
