Story
They rule my new town, my school, and with more money than God, there’s very little out of their reach. Four gorgeous, perfect, scary boys. There used to be five, but one of them died, leaving a fifth position that I now fill. I didn't ask for this. I didn't want to be part of this billionaire-boys-club. But no one cares about what I want. Sebastian Beckett is the worst of them. Their leader. He draws me in, and strips me of every defense I have. He calls me Butterfly, but it's not a pet name, it's a threat.

Story
It should have been an easy task for a skilled mercenary like Rybet Waise. Simply break into the royal palace, and rescue her friend from the executioner’s block. But when Rybet accidentally qualifies for the Trials, she finds herself with little choice but to see them through. A thin veil of etiquette, elegance, and glamour hides the true nature of the Trials. Behind closed doors, they are brutal and bloody, and to fail means to forfeit her life. Thrust into the limelight and forced to compete with the Kingdom’s elite sweethearts, unlikely allies emerge and bonds are formed.

Five years ago, I masterminded the infamous massacre of the Tri-state Timberwolves. The streets outside the Wolves HQ ran red with the blood of the old guard, and not one of those members loyal to my father were spared mercy. Not a single one. I let the media twist and distort the story. My new recruits eagerly proved themselves in spreading false news, in covering our tracks. To the general public, the Tri-State Timberwolves were extinct. But that couldn’t have been further from the truth.

Being in the Guild is our life…or death. Not everyone is created equal, and not everyone is truly cut out for the work we do. It’s not pretty, it’s not glamorous, and it’s sure as shit not moral or good. The weight of the sins we carry can become too much for some, and they crack. When they do, they become a threat. No one quits the Guild. Not really. Either they cut a deal to make themselves useful in another capacity, or they get eliminated. But who, you might ask, can kill a killer? Who scares the boogeyman into running and hiding? Men like me.

The time is now. It seems all I’ve ever wanted was vengeance. I did everything right: I protected my friends, I pushed myself to the limits, and I saved lives. As a wolf shifter growing up in a strong pack, I should be living my best life. But after my father tried to kill our leader, I’m labelled an outcast, traitor, less than dirt. When I can't take pack life any longer, I run, but apparently they don't like losing their punching bag. Torin, the leader’s son, drags me back before my first shift...a shift that will reveal my true mate. I never could have predicted who mine would be, but the moment my wolf looks upon him, I’m filled with hope for a brighter future.

“Madison Kate Danvers was murdered tonight.” Those words changed my life, and not for the better. They were wrong, of course. I wasn’t dead. But I was set up. After being charged with a string of offences - and made an example of by my political-minded father - I’m eventually released back into Shadow Grove with one thing on my mind. Hate. Someone is going to pay for derailing my carefully laid-out future. How very convenient that someone just moved into the bedroom down the hall from me.

Publisher's Summary
They're waiting for you.
Those four words should have been a warning. They should have filled Violet with dread. But she was so focused on Rafe's disappearance, she forgot.
The resistance was supposed to be fighting for a better world. A group of freedom fighters formed during the Monarch War, pushing back against laws that would see everyone enslaved. For a while there, they gave hope.
But with power comes corruption. The Society has been quietly amassing the strength and backing to become a real threat, and not everyone wants to use that power for good.
In a world torn apart by the death of monarchs, new leaders rise. Violet dives headfirst into the viper's nest with one singular goal: Rescue the stolen prince who possesses half her heart.
With the unwavering support of Jordan at her side, Violet knows she can face whatever the resistance throws at them. Even if she was the intended target all along.
Keep your friends close.
Keep your enemies closer.
Never forget the betrayals of the past.
The end of an era is here.

Unfulfilling Ending
When I invest myself in a story, the ending is without a doubt the most important part. I want to feel fulfilled, satisfied, happy. I want closure. I got none of that here. It’s especially upsetting when you take the time and expense to read three books to get the full story and you’re left exacerbated. I gave the first two books in the series five star ratings. While I didn’t necessarily love the entire storyline of the last book, I still enjoyed reading it until closer to the end. The last chapter before the epilogue was upsetting enough - I felt like Uriel got the last laugh in a sense and I didn’t like it. Then when the epilogue starts out four years in the future, I’m hoping for all the HEA good stuff - without giving away spoilers, let’s just say I was disappointed and left needing more. On top of that, when a story involves more than one love interest and you’re dealing with a ménage situation, I personally expect a little more from the sex scenes that what we got here. There wasn’t even minimal sexual involvement with both men at the same time. Isn’t that one of the reasons most of us read this type of story? I understood not rushing into that, but assumed we’d get there by the last book. I have read several books from each author and enjoyed all of them...just can’t say the same for this story. I did love the duet narration. Narration gets a 5 star rating, story rates a 2.

More bubbles than a fish tank.
“I bubbled up a laugh…”
“She bubbled up a gurgle…”
“He bubbled up a groan…”
That’s just ONE of the MANY static phrases used in this story.
There’s the repetitive “…and just when I was about to ___.” phrases which basically litter the whole story. I stopped rolling me eyes at that one at some point. There’s the narrator’s Kardashian-like WASPy throat thing at the end of each sentence - which I’m positive she thinks of as “throaty”. I’m pretty sure she’s chewing gum at one point. The narrator’s mispronunciation of some phrases are in there, too.
And that’s just the topical stuff. The story itself starts off great, hence the reason I stayed with it. It went downhill with the loss of the more interesting rivals/villains, and the lead female’s decision-making, which always involved someone else getting hurt by her deceit and childishness. But hey, she’s hot so, the boys will forgive her, of course.
Tip: Vanessa Moyen always speaks fast, or is recorded at a higher rate? Slow things down to 80% and she’ll sound human again.
There’s also the random side romance happening with the friend. Sometimes it’s the author’s attempt to get you invested in buying a side story later. In this instance, I think the authors just grew bored of the tripe and tried to mix it up. Idc enough about the friend to pay attention to her love life. So I ended up skip, skip, skipping past all that.
I’d say get book one and stop there. You’re waist time two credits otherwise.
You could play a drinking game to them. They make the story feel even more formulaic.

The ending was lacking
The end was severely lacking...
The story was great during the series. I thought finally they would get over the sharing issue. But that isn't my main problem with the ending. It could have gone a totally different way. Like uniting certain areas. Idk I would have liked to see her become a leader. Maybe leaving it open for another book?
Spoiler alert
4 years later all wrapped up into one chapter and no nuptials no babies to be the heirs... Just not really the best way to end their journey.

loved book 1 & 2
this final book was good too.. I just had to skip thru to many sex scene that seem to be happening 3 & 4 times a day.. 🤣 I was worried that the end was going to really suck after all the unhappy reviews.. In my opinion it was going to be a difficult end to pull off.. In real life this relationship would never work not for long anyway.. But in books we can live in a fantasy.. 🤣 Narrative was Great..

These 2 Authors Gold
I love these 2 Authors. I've read most of their collaborations and they are all are gold. This was no different. The characters were all strong and contributed to the flow of the story line. I laughed and cried throughout the 3 books.
Shane East is one of my favorite narrators, but unfortunately I didn't think he quite pulled off all the male voices well though he did have a lot of them to contend with, as most of the characters were males. Rafael, Jordan and Alex, all started to sound the same, with very little differences between them. Still this didn't retract from my listening pleasure. All in all I would still highly recommend this series.
