Publisher's Summary

For more than 20 years, Lemony Snicket has led millions of young listeners and readers through a mysterious world of bewildering questions and unfortunate events. With this latest book - a love letter to audiences young and old about the vagaries of real life - longtime fans and new listeners alike will experience Snicket’s distinctive voice in a new way.

This true story - as true as Lemony Snicket himself - begins with a puzzling note under his door: You had poison for breakfast. Following a winding trail of clues to solve the mystery of his own demise, Snicket takes us on a thought-provoking tour of his predilections: the proper way to prepare an egg, a perplexing idea called “tzimtzum”, the sublime pleasure of swimming in open water, and much else.

Poison for Breakfast is a classic-in-the-making that - in the great tradition of modern fables like The Little Prince and The Phantom Tollbooth - will delight listeners of all ages.

Great Listen

Honestly, there’s nothing quite like listening to the deep voice of Patrick Warburton speak the delightful word of Lemony Snicket.
If you’re looking for a super exciting and action-packed story, this isn’t it.
If you’re ready to sit back and just listen to someone talk to you and think and promise not to lie and then lie, then I think you’ll like this book.

Delightful mind wandering full circle Lemony Snicket creation. The narrator is sublime.

Listening is meditation, relaxing with an occasional chuckle.
As if wandering in a courtyard of a library relaxing with a brilliantly unique friend.

Quite Bewildering but Amazing.

This book is amazing. It is the perfect audiobook to listen to while eating your own breakfast; whether that breakfast has tea with honey, a slice of toast with cheese, a single sliced pear or an egg perfectly prepared is completely up to you.

The narrator, Patrick Warburton, is in my opinion the perfect narrator to encompass Lemony Snicket's writing style. His deep voice gives such gravitas to the words and phrases Mr. Snicket uses.

This book has also made me think to myself of many Bewildering things and happenings in my life. Who knew a book called Poison for Breakfast would be so philosophical.

a conversation with lemony snicket

this book is both completely unlike his other books, and yet at the same time the perfect compliment to them. it feels like going on a nice long late afternoon with lemony snicket.

I loved this book

Daringly Erratic

In what is essentially a loosely strung-together series of essays, Mr. Snicket ruminates on the big questions with characteristic humor and insight. Those intent on a novel may be disappointed; others willing to light up different bits of the brain will find ideas about productivity, detailed notes on the various ways to prepare an an egg, the term "daringly erratic," and so forth.

such a great book

it was as interesting as it was funny and bewildering. could listen to this book everyday its just that good you wont regret listening to it. Fun fact the narrator is also the narrator in the Netflix show a series of unfortunate events and that honestly adds to the effect.
