Publisher's Summary

Pollyanna, an expert at her favorite "Glad Game" of always looking at the bright side in her numerous trials, is one of the most popular and enduring characters in all of children's literature.

As Pollyanna arrives in Beldingsville to live with her strict and dutiful maiden aunt, she exclaims, "Oh, Aunt Polly, I don't know how to be glad enough that you let me come to live with you!" And from this point she begins to bring cheer into everybody's life, including the sick, the lonely, and the just plain miserable. All are transformed until one day when something so terrible happens that even Pollyanna doesn't know how to feel glad anymore.

Another Winner!

Somehow in my youth I managed to miss the story of Pollyanna. I had never read the book or seen a movie version. When my children's literature list turned up this gem, we decided to listen to it together. We all loved it!

The story itself is precious. We described it as "Anne of Green Gables meets the Secret Garden and The Railway Children." Pollyanna's difficult situation and her positive take on practically everything actually challenged my thinking and helped me to look at the bright side of things as well.

The story was wonderful, the performance was great, and we all were uplifted by this story. I Highly recommend for kids to adults.

A Timeless Classic

i had to read this book for a writing project. I must admit that I was expecting an outdated, puritanical work having grown up hearing the name Pollyanna used as an unattractive descriptor for someone too positive. This book was such a pleasant surprise, I'm only sorry it took 53 years for me to read it. There are so many wonderful layers of good and positive messaging in it. The narration was superb.

This was a very book, even for a 60+ year old woman. I’m glad I chose this one too. 😀

Children's classic, but dated

I remember the Disney movie of this story, which is fairly faithful to the book. I liked the narration, but found the story dated and rather cloying. The repetive use of "being glad" became really annoying, although I appreciate the lesson of looking for the good rather than focusing on the negative.

Better than the Disney movie

The movie is charming. But the book had me wiping tears the last several chapters from sadness and happiness. Great narrator!!!

pollyanna

I enjoyed this book. The only fault i found was that, the voice of the young were old. which spoilt it a little. It would be difficult to make it any other way

A classic

Although supposedly a child's book, I have much enjoyed this as an adult. Recommended.

A classic

A charming and uplifting tale for our troubled times. The narrator really brought the characters alive in this delightful, old fashioned story that offers creative reasons to be glad in the most unlikely situations. I wish i had read this or, even better, had it read to me as a kid. I look forward to the sequels and am very glad to have met Pollyanna.

Suspenseful!

I checked several other narrators narrating this specific story and yet, couldn't find anyone who narrated better than S.Patricia Bailey. There were several characters in this book and she made sure that all the characters had their own distinct voices, either by increasing the pace at which they talked or by changing their tone and softness. The fact that the Author of this story gave her characters their own unique way of talking made me understand those characters much better while I listened. The story was suspenseful from beginning to end and I couldn't help but listen to it whenever I could catch a minute. I'd recommend this story to anyone who'd like to have a positive perspective in life and see the world from a n innocent child's point of view. Simply amazing it is.
