Publisher's Summary

"There's a secret to mastery that you may have never heard, a single little thing that only the very best in the world know how to do. In fact, I believe it is the only thing anyone can do to gain true mastery at anything, and it's an equal opportunity principle. It can be applied to fulfill your potential in business, in sports, in your relationships, as well as your overall life. Do you want to know what it is?"

In the crowd, Jason leaned forward, laser focused. Kicked off his basketball team after a season-ending fight, his only chance to play ball again was to sell enough books door-to-door over the summer to get back on the team. He never needed wisdom like he needed it now. But little did he know that the answer he was seeking was about to change his life forever. Pound The Stone is the intense and inspiring story of a young man's journey through the obstacles, defeats, and eventual victories that come while developing grit on the path to mastery. Told in the same engaging fable style as Chop Wood Carry Water, this is a deeper dive into the timeless principles that guide and inspire anyone who seeks greatness in life, and covers everything from true success, to the perfection trap, the value of failure, why courage is contagious, and why vulnerability can save your life. Pound The Stone will move you, inspire you, and hopefully encourage you to choose love and courage over fear and shame.

Never to old to Learn!

This is an amazing book that I heard Coach Matt Campbell used at ISU to turn his football practice and team attitudes around that sent them to the Alamo Bowl in San Antonia, Texas December 28th. I am a nursing instructor for many years! I learned so much from this book that I plan to share with the nursing students going through their journey of nursing school. Nursing is a hard profession to get through; just like other professions. But, nurses have lives at state! Nurses that do not pick up on a physical assessment or not performing the right interventions can cause a life or death situation. Nursing students complain that school is hard; which, it is because the students have to use their critical thinking skills. There is multiple answers. Nursing reminds me of this book. You have to have grit and perseverance just like book, "Pound the Stone" mentioned several times whenever times got rough in life. I loved all the examples the author gave the student.
Great book! I absolutely loved it and refer back to it often. I have the audiobook which is great to hear instead of just reading it.

Amazing story and amazing lessons

This is one of the first books of this kind I have read and I was very impressed. I definitely recommend reading Chop Wood, Carry Water first as the author suggests. The lessons here were worked into the story in such a great way and I really found myself caring about the characters and their journey.

Top 10

Definitely one of my Best Top 10 favorites. I rank it up there along with my favorite Andy Andrew’s books. This is a simple story line to follow that would be a must read for all adolescent young men. It’s books like this that should be on the school’s summer required books to read list. Well done.

treasure chest of wisdom

unfortunately I don't know where to begin describing this book. there's so many lessons to be learned. don't try to highlight it if you do you're going to need multiple highlighters and the book is going to be soaked afterwards.

My 12 Year Old Son Loved It

My 12year old listens to this book every night when he goes to bed. He’s gone through the whole book probably five times since first listening to it last summer.
I’m old and I couldn’t stop listening!
It’s so inspiring. 👍🏻

An easy to imagine collection of parables

Handy parables to make the teaching of lessons easier to imagine in your own life.
Life isn't so simple and well correlated as the story depicts but remember its at best a refence guide from Joshua's standpoint at that stage in his life.

Terrific parable novel on success and how!

Success is rarely overnight. It is often achieved by pounding the stone over and over until the breakthrough arrives sometimes very suddenly.
"If you don't quit you will win" said the successful networker, the late lamented Bert Gullick, to me, and all he spoke too.
This book explains in very readable terms how to do just that. The narrative is well read and inclusive. Definitely a winner!

A must read!

I love this book. The dialogue feels unauthentic at times, the narrator sounds like he's 12 years old, and the supporting characters are pretty 2 dimensional, but this book does an excellent job of teaching a healthy mental approach to competitive sport. It's a game changer.

Also, the father- son motif is beautifully done. This book helped me grieve the loss of my Dad who passed away last year from cancer. Thank you, Joshua.
