When a fragile peace breaks down and promptly devolves into a rapidly escalating shooting war between Pakistan and India, the U.S. must intervene. With only hours remaining before the conflict reaches a deadly point of no return, the White House must find a way to shut it down immediately or risk the likelihood of a new global war. A radical cleric has become the democratically elected president of Pakistan and uses a brutal incident in the Kashmir region as an opportunity to ignite war with India. Publisher's Summary
Introducing a major new thriller writer - in the vein of Vince Flynn and Brad Thor - and an electrifying character, Dewey Andreas.
A major North American hydroelectric dam is blown up and the largest off-shore oil field in this hemisphere is destroyed in a brutal, coordinated terrorist attack. But there was one factor that the terrorists didn’t take into account when they struck the Capitana platform off the coast of Colombia - slaughtering much of the crew and blowing up the platform - and that was the Capitana crew chief, Dewey Andreas.
Dewey, former Army Ranger and Delta, survives the attack, rescuing as many of his men as possible. But the battle has just begun. While the intelligence and law enforcement agencies scramble to untangle these events and find the people responsible, the mysterious figure of Alexander Fortuna - an agent embedded into the highest levels of American society and business - sets into play the second stage of these long-planned attacks. The only fly in the ointment is Dewey Andreas - who is using all his long-dormant skills to fight his way off the platform, then out of Colombia and back to the U.S., following the trail of terrorists and operatives sent to stop him.
Power Down is a gripping, compelling debut thriller from a powerful new author, an amazing talent certain to join the ranks of the genre’s finest writers.

WOW.COULD NOT PUT THIS ONE DOWN. MUST READ!
I must admit to being a bit jaded when it comes to action/mystery/thrillers. I have listened to literally hundreds of books on audible and this is my favorite of this genre. All I can say is,"Flynn, Clancy, Baldacci, and all you other favorite authors of mine, watch out! Ben Coes had outdone you all.
I have a habit of looking for errors, gross exaggerations, etc-especially if the book spends anytime on areas of my particular expertise-law, energy, wall street finance, etc. I did not find one mistake(of course, that does not mean there aren't any. As fantastic as some of the plot lines may seem, they all get tied up nicely with an end result of a heavy dose of realism and a very scary view of what could happen in America. However, as interesting as the Terrorism story line is-far more exciting to me is the way Coes makes these characters seem so very human. It is as thou I am in the story myself. The lead characters are shown as normal people with the same foibles anyone might possess-and I am talking people in the top echelon of our government. I thought I was ease dropping on conversations taking place among leaders of FBI, CIA, NSA, etc. I guess our government isn't very different from our corporate environments-same old, same old with the backstabbing, upstaging, etc. I enjoyed these meetings between top leaders of our gov/t almost as much as the non-stop action going on the same time. This was something else I truly loved about this first effort by Coes(it certainly wont be his last, if this one is any indication!)-it is multifaceted. One moment something is about to blow up, has blown up, may blow up, with believeable actions and consequences. The next moment, I am trying to figure out if the investment scenarios make sense. This is one tightly written book. No fillers. No boredom. And excellent research. And we are left with serious issues to contemplate afterwards. So-in a nutshell-Fun, exciting ride with a compelling message.

Good story...did not enjoy narration at all
Story had complexity, intrigue, and excitement. Unfortunately, I could not enjoy this audio book as much as I might, had it been narrated by someone other than Peter Harmann, who seemed to be a graduate of the "Humphrey Bogart" voice-over school. Over exaggeration of the tough guy intones was distracting. It was one constant string of angry tough guy emoting. Further the female characterizations did not convey any semblance of being a woman. Finally the lead character's voice was bleeding over to other characters voice characterizations; hence, it seemed like a bunch of "Humphrey Bogart" characters with different names. It seemed as if the narrator was aware of his shortcoming and tried to at least attempt to mask it with the female FBI character by giving her an Irish accent. That attempt failed. Ben Coes, the author, could have scored a better audio book performance result, in my opinion, had he sought out George Guidall as the narrator.

Fantastic audiobook!
This is one of the best audiobooks I have ever listened to. The action is non-stop, the characters are well-developed and believable. The story line is logical and gripping. Sure hope we see many more books from Ben Coes.
Of the nearly 500 audiobooks I have listened to, this is in the top 5% for an action thriller.

Not following the trend of 4 and 5 stars
I am going to preface this by saying it is probably one of the better plots I have ever heard. A very frightening concept and overall - A good story line.
That was the good. This is the bad - For me anyway.
Peter Hermann has a very good voice..................But - It was unnervingly distractive every time he spoke through gritted teeth to express anger or frustration in his characters. 1st - They all sound the same when he spoke through gritted teeth. You knew which character, only because of where you were in the book. Plus - He was gritting his teeth when his charachters even thought angry. More importantly - The main charachter never stopped thinking or talking angry. I probably would have enjoyed the book more if I read it instead. One of the reasons I stopped listening to Scott Brick narrated books.
Ben Coes overall had a great story line. I realize some situations will be embellished in a book - But some things just did not add up no matter what. There is no way an ex anything could demand the things that Dewy demanded from the FBI ect.... Or - The fact that they included him in evrything.
Still thinking about the fact that after Dewy stabbed somebody - He dug a bullet out of his shoulder not long after without any referance to even attempt to sanitize the blade. I mean - Wash it with warm water and soap.
If the story line was more realistic instead of the obiviously ridiculous scenarios like a 2 man team (of nobody's) breaking into a wet works building in another country with security that's so bad it makes a wal-mart look like the pentagon, it would have been better.
I won't compare this to Vince Flynn.... Dewy is not supposed to be Mitch Rapp - And he isn't - That's for sure.
Sorry - It was a few things a way from being great.

Very fun ride!
Ben Coes what a welcome addition to the Lee Child, Vince Flynn, Mark Greany club! I really enjoyed this book! I never take these stories too seriously. I want them to sound somewhat realistic and to be action packed. This one met both criteria. Really fun to listen to, when do we get our next installment?

OH MAN, WHAT A RIDE!!!
My goodness where has Ben Coes been. Please do yourself a favor and buy this one.
Power Down is a mix of Flynn's, Mitch Rapp guts, Thor's, Scott Harvath painful humor, and can it even be compared to Andrew Vachss's action? OH YES AND MORE!!! Trust me when I say you will absolutely enjoy POWER DOWN. I have listened to every book in every series that is remotely of this type of thriller and Ben Coes has done the unthinkable with his first outing in matching step for step with even my favorite Ted Bell with Alex Hawk. The one thing this book is missing is fluff. No mind numbing deep delving into why the trees are so green just to add words to the page. As I listened it just got better!
So do Power Down and Ben Coes the favor of our support and enable him to give us a second installment with the amazing Dewey Andeas, the Rapp and Harvath of this great Thriller.

Torn from the headlines! Gripping, fast moving!
When terrorists attack Americas newest oil rig, destroy the worlds largest hydro-electric dam, aiming to destroy the core of Americas energy supply system, the FBI and CIA are clueless where to find the terrorists. In walks Dewey Andreas, the newest super espionage kid on the block. Blowing up the oil rig that he is charged with protecting and running, is the last thing the terrorists want to do...they just don't know it yet. While America struggles to grasp what is happening, few people realize that this is just the start of the attacks. With many more calculated attacks planned on the core of America, is there anyone who can stop the terrorists before they start the ball rolling inevitably toward the financial demise of America. With many more sophisticated attacks from imbeded terrorist cells across the country, it looks grim for America.
Wake up the sleeping dragon...Dewey is out to stop it and get to the bottom of this huge terrorist plot. Watch out Vince Flynn and Mitch Rapp, Dewey Andreas is in town. If you are a Vince Flynn fan, make room on your Ipod for Ben Coes. Power Down is a fast-paced, action packed page turner from this new author. Peter Hermann does an excellent job narrating this fast paced story, with excellent accents, pace and power in a voice that rings out for retribution for these heinous attacks on the core of America!! Burned through this fast paced listen in 2 days, and left me wanting more from Ben Coes!

I couldn't put this one down. What a great listen! From the very start to the very end I didn't want to stop listening even to go to sleep at night. Felt like my earbuds were going to become glued to my ears. Highly recommend this for anyone who likes action thrillers. The only disappointment is that this author doesn't seem to have any other audiobooks for me to buy. Nonetheless, I highly recommend this book. Better than Vince Flynn, Brad Thor, Tom Clancy, other authors I've listened to.

Had to force myself to finish it
I disliked this book and would not recommend it to anyone. In my opinion, it seemed like a heavy handed and rough first attempt at writing an action novel. The book was extremely predicable with little character development. Every Saudi was corrupt, every government official was inept and the protagonist, Dewey Andreas, is completely unstoppable and totally unbelievable. The bad guys can kill anyone with surgical precision except of course, Dewey.
The narrator read at a slow pace with a near monotone voice using few inflections aside from speaking through clenched teeth at times.
I am stunned that I have such a different opinion than most reviewers. I enjoy this genre and am an avid fan of Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp series. For some reason, with this one I had to force myself to finish it before buying a different audio book.
