Emily Lonergan's best friend died last year.

And Emily hasn't stopped grieving. Lizzie Porter was lively, loud, and fun - Emily's better half. Emily can't accept that she's gone.

When Lizzie's parents and her sister come back to town to visit, Emily's heartened to see them. The Porters understand her pain. They miss Lizzie desperately, too.

Desperately enough to do something crazy.

Something unthinkable.

Suddenly, Emily's life is hurtling toward a very dark place - and she's not sure she'll ever be able to return to what she once knew was real.

From New York Times best-selling author Luanne Rice comes a breathless, unputdownable story of suspense, secrets - and the strength that love gives us to survive even the most shocking of circumstances.

Great dramatic young adult tale

I read this book at the recommendation of my 11-year old step daughter. She got it from her school's book fair. I remember how into this book she was and she couldn't wait for me to read it after her. I totally get her reaction now. What a good book! Great young adult tale with plenty of drama, suspense, mystery and a little teenage romance. I was on the edge of my seat all the way through. It really had me putting myself in Emily's shoes. I can't imagine dealing with the death of a friend and then her family, who you grew up trusting, kidnaps you and forces you to become her. Talk about trust issues! This is a gripping read that I suggest for young adults and adults. It will grab you from the first chapter and keep you engrossed until the end. I wish there was more. I want to see how the characters that I loved at the end continued on with their lives.

Great teen drama!

My 15 year old daughter loved this book and wanted me to listened to it. I found myself eager to get alone so I could listen because the story was intriguing and interesting. Felt a little silly at times liking it so much because it is written for teens but I got over that! The ending was a little predictable but sweet. Love that this book teaches perseverance and forgiveness. Definitely would recommend!

Thriller read for Young Adult readers

The plot was pretty interesting, and I think the love story will appeal to young female readers. I felt the narration was a little dramatic, but overall did not keep me from finishing the book.
