Neil Josten is the newest addition to the Palmetto State University Exy team. He's short, he's fast, he's got a ton of potential - and he's the runaway son of the murderous crime lord known as the Butcher. Signing a contract with the PSU Foxes is the last thing a guy like Neil should do. The team is high profile, and he doesn't need sports crews broadcasting pictures of his face around the nation. His lies will hold up only so long under this kind of scrutiny, and the truth will get him killed.

So now that he’s finally managed to (somewhat clumsily) behead the evil king (turns out magical swords yanked from bogs don’t come pre-sharpened), he and his rag-tag group of quest companions are at a bit of a loss for what to do next. As a temporary safeguard, Arek’s best friend and mage, Matt, convinces him to assume the throne until the true heir can be rescued from her tower. Except that she’s dead.

Though I was born with the ability to see the dead, I struggled with it until my brother was killed and his ghost was left behind. Now, I’m determined to figure out who is responsible for his death…the problem is that Detective Maddox Booker, the one working the case, is a grumpy and stubborn man who wants nothing to do with me and definitely doesn’t believe in ghosts. It doesn’t help that I keep finding myself looking ridiculous in front of the detective, thanks to interfering ghosts who enjoy laughing at my expense.

Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Stunning and tender
I loved how we got to explore the world more and are introduced to more characters; I loved watching the complex development of all the characters!
Seeing the Vere politics and backstabbing from Damien's point of view is really intriguing, especially since he is so unused to it and so appalled.

Best of the Triology
This book is more than likely the best book in the trilogy. Where the first book is set up, this book gives you encrypting you want. The slow burn and full realization that these two would have been perfect for each other, if only in a different time. But you also realize just how hard the next book is going to be too.
Also the spice 🌶 is simply perfect!

The best adventure romance ever written.
Lacks nothing. Complex and intriguing, exciting and unexpected, scintillating and smoldering yet avoids being trashy. The characters charm, endear, anger, and grieve the reader. Their motivations ring true and the many layered plots are a mystery until fully revealed. The hints keep you guessing even to those of us grown bored with contemporary writers. A masterwork of adventure romance and intrigue. Perfect.

Again, Phenomenal
Just two days ago I finished the first book, Captive Prince. Today, I finish the second after two days of listening. There wasn’t a moment of my day where I wasn’t itching to continue listening to the journey of Damon and Laurent. Somehow, Pacat managed to further engage and world build masterfully and effortlessly. Nurturing the relationships and delving deeper into the lives of the characters without losing the voice of Damon. There were many twists and turns and shocking discoveries. I shared laughter, anxiety, heartache, and a multitude of the various emotions Pacat was able to describe in a realistic and relatable manner. Not for those under sixteen at least as it deals with heavy nsfw content.

You won't be able to stop "reading" / "listening"
This series. Lord, where to start. This is definitely one of those books that latches onto you and doesn't let go. It requires some trigger warnings, because one of the leads is captured into sexual slavery, but it's handled so very, very well. Honestly, it isn't one of those books out there that feels like it was written as kink porn. Every heart-wrenching moment and plot point has a purpose that drives the story forward and draws the characters together.
The first time I read this series, I read all three books in less than 24 hours and didn't sleep a wink during that time. Or eat. I barely even used the bathroom. It's one of those soul-sucking stories that you can't fathom putting down until every last scrap of plot is resolved. And, thankfully, not only does Ms. Pacat do exactly that, she also provides a few novellas to provide that added dose of much-needed closure to those areas where she hinted at the answer, but us broken and bleeding readers thirsted for more. Thankfully, she gave it to us.
Every single book in this series is a must-read. I'm not going to go any deeper into the plot than that because I would give damn near anything to read these books, blind, as I did the very first time. Just once more. It's an experience like no other, and one that simply cannot be replicated once you've read them once. Trust me, I've tried. Many times.

Amazing!
I really enjoyed the second novel in this incredible series. It's already an all-time favourite book of mine so I couldn't stop myself from listening to the whole series on audiobook. While I did find the narrator's voice a bit clunky at times and his inflection on some words in a sentence a bit surprising, I still very much enjoyed this book.
