Story
Rain Christiansen, cold-case detective and reluctant medium, is very aware of that fact. But when infamous serial killer Thomas Kane wants to meet, there's no way Rain can say no. He also can't refuse Kane's offer - find his missing wife, Delilah, and he'll reveal the location of his victim's bodies. Rain has never turned down a good quid pro quo, and he doesn't intend to start. The hunt for Kane's wife leads to yet another cold case, three copycat murders, and an investigation where nothing is as it seems. Soon, Rain is dealing with a ghost unlike any he's ever dealt with before.

Story
Growing up, I was taught that getting too close to someone would be my downfall. But I’ve proven that wrong now that I’m happily married to Jackson, the greatest man in the world. The issue is that mayhem always seems to find me (which is definitely not my fault), and this time, it comes in the form of a woman looking for her daughter.

Private investigator Mackenzie Williams' newest client is everything he's looking for in a guy--charming, beautiful, intelligent, and successful. There's only one itty bitty problem: the guy's not exactly gay. In fact Jordan Channing is looking for a PI to follow his fiance. The smart thing would be to thank Jordan for his time, turn Mr. Perfect away (don't let the door hit you on the rump, thank you very much), and forget he exists.

The job at Sunday Orchard was supposed to be temporary. A chance to gain some work experience, to have some fun. I had not expected to be welcomed into a family of gorgeous and weirdly efficient lumberjack-types, or to find purpose in the tiny Vermont town whose claim to fame seemed to be apple-based products and copious amounts of charm. And I most definitely hadn’t expected to fall for Knox Sunday, my grumpy, burly, fifteen-years-older, reluctant roommate, with his infuriating lectures, his hot-as-fire body, his superior attitude - I’ve never been one to put down roots.

The problem is that Parker Ellis has been straight since forever. And that makes it difficult to convince him that the two of us are meant to be together. And now, there's no point. All is lost. After half a century of chaos, my retirement from leading the Community of Species Government has been bliss. No more hellhounds playing pranks. No more snippy demons demanding my attention. No more cajoling money from the wealthy to support the community. Just peace while I avoid my overbearing father and try to work out my next steps. Although...maybe three years of peace is enough. It might even be starting to get boring. The truth is, I'm an admin assistant who applied for a job that sounded kind of interesting and ended up working for the Community of Species Government. I'm the only human in the office, and basically I ride herd on a team of rambunctious shifters and demons. I also spend a lot of time avoiding Gideon Bailey, the demon I had a one-night stand with right before I took this job. He hates me, and I really want to avoid being murdered. But I've been offered a promotion that will mean working with him, so we're both going to have to get over it

Publisher's Summary
No one said being a medium would be easy.
Rain Christiansen, former FBI agent and current cold case detective, is starting to think it's the hardest job he's ever had - and the most important. He's determined to accept all the changes in his formerly well-ordered life, but that means embracing a whole lot of weird. There's no instruction manual for meshing his work with his medium duties, and he's painfully aware that he's flubbing the job. So are the ghosts, who are becoming increasingly impatient. And stronger.
To complicate matters, he's not sure what these spooktacular developments mean for his relationship. It certainly seems like Daniel McKenna, his partner in work and life, is in it for the long haul. But Rain can't help but wonder how long that patience will last...and what he'll do if Danny decides the intrusive ghosts are just too much.
Rain thought accepting his supernatural gifts would be the solution to his troubles. But he's starting to realize his problems are just getting started.

Spooky. Quirky. Sexy.
What a fun entertaining ride was listening to Principle of Spookology , book 2 , in the Spectral Files duet .
The mystery/murder/investigation plotline was tightly woven and nicely done. It kept me engaged and trying to find out the villain/villains (no spoilers from me) identity and motivation.
Resolution both in the romance storyline and in the police/ghosts storylines was very satisfying. Actually, they're perfect.
Kirt Graves narration was solid. The production clean and seamless. The voices he used were distinctive and well matched.
The change in narrators between P.S. I Spook You and Principles of Spookology didn't impact my enjoyment of both audiobooks.

Worth the wait
I was waiting & hoping for more stories about Rain & Danny. The first book, PS I Spook You, was amazing. I was so intrigued by Rain and his ability to see ghosts.
This book continues the saga of Rain coming to grips with his special "skill set" while trying to figure out how to get a handle on those pesky ghosts who know no boundaries. His reluctant attempts at seeking out help from various Guru's was hikarious.
I love the formation of the PTU, and the growing pains of working together as a team with Rain's odd ability at the forefront. There is still good old fashioned police work to be had, mixed in with the more unusual set of skills Rain brings to the table.
The continuing saga of Rain & Danny trying to put the pieces back together in their growing relationship was both realistic & heartwarming. They just work for me as a couple.
My only negative about the audio version was the change in narrator from the first book. It did not work for me, at all.
Noah Michael Levine did such a brilliant job of narration in the first book. He not only breathed life into the characters, but he gave them very distinct voices & personalities. Both of which were sorely lacking in this sequel. As someone who is visually impaired, I rely on the narrator to help me escape into the world created in the book. When done correctly it's magical.
I truly hope there will be further takes of the adventures of Rain Christiansen & Danny McKenna! This story was fantadtic, and I can't t wait for more!

So dang good
I didn’t initially plan on the audiobook being the first time I read through book 2 of this series, but I’m not unhappy that is the way it worked out. The narrator is a fantastic fit for Rain, capturing his sarcasm, wit, nerves, and energy, bringing the story to life in a way that often had me smiling or even laughing out loud.
I’ve loved this series and couple since meeting them years ago when the first book released and am so happy to see more and more who’ve found this series with the rerelease. Even better, this is a series that continues to deliver. Between the interesting stories, fantastic characters, sweet and hot romance, witty and snarky banter, and great writing- this series has it all. I’m not a frequent rereader, but these, especially the audio versions, are ones I will go back to and enjoy just as much as the first time.

another great story in the Spectral files...
Definitely my favorite book in the series... so far.
Rain and Danny are back.
Rain is haunted by a ghost. In order to get some peace he follows the fews clues each haunting brings and it leads him to another cold case. A missing person. but that's only the tip of the iceberg....
Amazing story.

Great book needs a better performer
I love S.E. Harmon books, with their rich descriptions and detailed character development. I have listened to them all and have been waiting for this audio release for so long. As usual, the story is great, but I have been disappointed by the narration from the first paragraph. He sounds bored, and he mispronounces words like “vague.” Rain was so interesting in P.S. I Spook You, and the narrator made us feel it. This performance is lackluster at best, and he makes Rain seem aloof. Great authors’ books should be read by great narrators. Please consider a different performer next time.

Rain and Danny are back and it’s GREAT
Rain is settled back home and working with Danny. Now that he’s accepted his job as medium he needs to get a handle on the ghosts. There are intrusive ghosts, car chase with a side of swimming, donuts that Rain can’t resist, guru’s with short tempers, trust and new neighbors! A great follow up, I look forward to more.

Love the story, hate the narrator
The problem here is that the narrator of the first book, PS I Spook you, Noah Michael Levine, did such a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life, their voices were wonderful and distinct. Not so Kirt Graves. Rain and Danny sounded like old men, with the same old voice, although at points Danny just sounded simple. The story is great. I loved it as a sequel, but I won’t be buying any more books with this narrator.
If you haven’t listened to the first.... well, you may be able to contain your disappointment. I’m gutted.

LOVE this series...but prefer original narrator.
4.25 stars for Kirt's narration, which I only liked not loved, but 5 amazing stars for the story. The change of narrator was okayed by the author, after apparently being given a choice by Tantor. I'll admit I was more than a little sceptical going in as I'd really liked Noah Michael Levine's interpretation of book 1 P.S. I Spook You...he certainly made Rain's snark come alive, and it would appear I wasn't his only fan; however, as I've loved everything I've listened to by Kirt, it was still a no-brainer to one-click on Audible.

An absolute joy to read/listen to.
Spookology is the second book in the series. It continues the story of Rain - a profiler and Danny- a detective and their navigation through a relationship that has had its ups and downs with a handful of ghosts along the way! It's very funny - the repartee between them especially. It has a great storyline that arcs over the 2 books and I hope there is a book 3 coming!

Different narrator for book 2, great listen.
Rain and Danny are back for more cold case investigations in Principles of Spookology. Love the relationship between these 2 guys, they are back together and are slowly learning to open up more to each other. Rain is worried about the potential stress that could be placed on their relationship due to his ability, but he finally got his guy back and he is determined to keep him.
The ghost situation is a little out of control. What does one do when ghosts don't respect personal boundaries and just keep dropping in at all times of the day and night! Poor Rain, he is still trying to work out exactly what he is capable of, and the ghosts are surprising him at times throughout the storyline as well with their unexpected abilities.
Rain's family add humour to the storyline again - love his quirky eccentric parents. I enjoyed how the cold case mystery slowly unravelled across the story with the different ghosts that assisted Rain with the investigation.
Different narrator for the second book in the series, but I didn't mind, first and second book were both really good to listen to.

Fantastic and fun!
Rain is enjoying living with Danny but the ghosts that visit are not respecting any boundaries, in fact they’re getting kind of pushy! So, while tackling a number of murders and disappearances, Rain seeks help to learn some principles of Spookology with varying degrees of success. This was thoroughly enjoyable, slightly creepy, and loads of fun. SE Harmon has a knack of giving her irascible main characters a nice balance of snarky humour and big hearts. The multiple murder plot was engrossing and substantial with a few main suspects to keep us guessing. Can’t wait for book 3 in the series! 🎧 I actually liked the narrator of the first book a lot so I was surprised by the switch but I’ve always enjoyed Kirt Graves’ performances and he does a great job here.
