A revamped narration of an old classic

Fantastic production and performance by all; Stephen Fry is a joy to listen to. I would list in the description narrators and parts they narrate. I hope Audible will continue producing these originals.

Flowers

Listening to this again, and understanding where I have come from and where I was brought by education and transplantation, I understand that I am Eliza. I cannot go back. I cannot go forward. There is really no place for me. I feel for this character and I want to watch Mr. Shaw was trying to say in this amazing book. – – Dr. Hurst

Brilliant

This is the best version of pig Mayleon that you were going to find an audible. Stephen Fry is brilliant as usual. I really liked all of the cast in this one. I hope there are more of these.

Love this story!

I loved the movie first when I was a wee one. I’ve never seen it on stage but would absolutely love to do so. This is a grand second option.

An excellent and so entertaining version of Shaw’s classic

Thank you so much, Audible for making this excellent play available. What is not to love about it! The dialogue crackles, and I think Shaw would have been very happy, not to say “bloody” happy, with the performers and performance. The “what happened next” scenario in Chapter 2 is erudite, literate and heartwarming, and makes you feel that this is not only as it should have been, but just how it was.

Wonderful

I wouldn't change a thing about this performance. I thought everyone was perfectly suited to their roles and Stephen Fry was particularly excellent. I went through his reading of Sherlock Holmes and I couldn't get enough even after 30+hours, so I keep looking for more audiobooks with him as a reader. His persona for Higgins was thoroughly enjoyable. Love George Bernard Shaw.

delightful

A wonderfully entertaining story with a fabulous cast of voices. Highly recommended listen but perhaps not suitable before sleep, the characters are still stuck in my head!

Why was the middle of the story omitted?

The performances were good but the cutting of a huge part of the play removed narrative sense

My Fair Pygmalion

Very well performed by the very best actors you'll hear on any audio book.
The story was slashed and does not include the education of Elsa.
The last 10-15 minutes were a summary of what happened to the protagonists of the story. Better to have made the flower girl to duchess story more complete than to dress her up, give her a posh voice and say, "six months later".

A good quality production of a dated story

Overall I enjoyed this piece. The well known actors and sound effects worked well in conjuring a specific time and place. It is hard to hear how Eliza is belittled controlled and condemned as worthless. Yet within these dated misogynist classist values we see Eliza standing up to her "betters" and fighting for her independence. There is a second track after the play explaining a summary of what happens in their later life.
