A Slip of the Keyboard brings together for the first time the finest examples of Pratchett's nonfiction writing, both serious and surreal: from musings on mushrooms to what it means to be a writer (and why banana daiquiris are so important).

Audio is variable
This is a great book well read, but beware the audio quality is all over the place. I know it's a 'vintage recording' but that doesn't excuse a good chunk of it being (ironically given the subject of the book) recorded at the wrong speed. Planer sounds drunkenly slow at times and speeds up again just as you've acclimatised to it. I've no doubt it was like this in the original release, and it's become no less disappointing since then considering how trivial it'd be to fix.

Another Great Pratchett in Need of Clean-Up
Where does Pyramids rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Above average in terms of performance. Fantastic in terms of story, and below average in terms of audio quality.
What other book might you compare Pyramids to and why?
Along the lines of Moving Pictures, also by Pratchett.
Which character – as performed by Nigel Planer – was your favorite?
You Bastard, the Discworld's foremost mathematician.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Laugh and cringe. Funny book, and absorbing, but the audio quality, like most of the early recordings of Pratchett's books, sounds as thought it was transferred from audio tape.
Any additional comments?
One of Planer's better recitals, but needs an audio clean-up. Worth getting though!

Audio quality is bad
This is one of the weaker audio transfers from analog to digital. During 'book II' the playback speed changes making Nigel Planer sound like he's drunk.

Brilliant book completely mangled by Nigel Planer’s mispronunciation of major characters’ names such as Ptraci & Ptaclusp (the Ps should be silent giving us Tracy & Tactless) thereby missing some of the best jokes/humour. Please re-record with Stephen Briggs, I can hardly bear to listen!

Would you listen to Pyramids again? Why?
I have, many times. I am a devotee to DiscWorld and of course Terry Pratchett
What other book might you compare Pyramids to, and why?
Any DiscWorld novel.
What does Nigel Planer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
He creates apt voices for each character.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I enjoy taking time unwrapping gifts and surprises, and use the same strategy for enjoying every facet of a great story.
Any additional comments?
I have read and re-read / and re-listened to, Terry Pratchett's novels, always finding something that I hadn't noticed and enjoyed before. Particularly I enjoy his underlying political commentary, that just seems to hit the nail on the head.

I 'sphinx' this is great! A five star listen.
What a wonderful listen! 'Pyramids' introduces you to the Kingdom Djelibeybi that will never make you look at Egyptian ancient history and the camels in the same way again.
I honestly believe that Sir Terry Prachett must have laughed out loud while writing this book.
It's rib-tickling, colourful and adventurous. Pteppic - a young Pharo is a great new addition to the Discworld cast, along with many other heroes and villains, but I shall say no more least I spoil the story.
Whether you're new to Discworld or are looking for a next book in the series this is 'a must read'. It's a great stand alone book.
Nigel Planner does a beautiful job and is a man of more than one voice. It was hard to put it away and could easily listen to it again.

An early Discworld Novel
I remember reading this as a late teen, it was my first introduction to Discworld and from then on I was totally hooked, Nigel Planer is an excellent choice as narrator, he captures the characters perfectly. Pyramids is such a joy to listen to, this one particularly because it transported me back to my youth. This is a must for any Discworld 'beginner'.

Great stand-alone
As much a part of the Discworld series that this is, it's great as a stand-alone book to start off with if you want an introduction to Terry Pratchett's very own style of comedy. The story itself is wonderful, full of quirky characters, epic mysteries, ancient civilisations and camels.
While I prefer Stephen Briggs as narrator for Terry Pratchett's books, Nigel Planer does a good job of portraying different characters, subtly changing dialects. The quality of the recording is sadly a bit lacking with a flat sound that sometimes inexplicably slows down for entire chapters.

A great listen
What did you like most about Pyramids?
I'm a sucker for any Terry Pratchett book, particularly his Discworld series, and this is no exception, with his characteristic wit & humour. While I wouldn't say this is his best work (from my point of view. For me, Thief of Time or any of the Watch or Weatherwax books out-strips this one easily, but that's mostly because I love those characters), this is an excellent novel, performed wonderfully.
Would you recommend Pyramids to your friends? Why or why not?
I'd heartily recommend any of Terry Pratchett's work to my friends, but if this is your first Discworld, it can be a bit dry compared to some of his other work. However, if you appreciate political satire, absurdities within hierarchies & the occasional witty reference to Ancient Egypt, this is probably the book for you.
What does Nigel Planer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
He's got excellent range as a voice actor & I find his rendition of different characters to be really wonderful. His tone whilst narrating is a beautiful fit for Terry's understated witticisms & he covers the trademark footnotes of Pratchett's style with elegance.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
"Putting the oh! in Pharaoh."

What made the experience of listening to Pyramids the most enjoyable?

Another brilliant adventure through the Discworld
Another brilliantly witty addition to the Disc World universe.
So many laugh out loud moments through this escapade through 'The Old Kingdom' (which I'm sure is nothing like ancient Egypt all 😉). Pratchett's turn of phrase is so absurd that I lost count of the times I thought 'I better remember that one' or 'I need to find a pen and write that down'.
Nigel Planner is a fantastic narrator which just adds to the Discworld experience.

The best of Nigel Planers Discworld narration
This is the best of Nigel Planer narrating Discworld. Unfortunately it is a rare gem as all other Discworld audio books from Nigel leave much to be desired in the voice characterisation. perhaps because it is a stand alone novel the monotony of his voice doesn't rankle so much.

Fabulous. Not as superb as other TPs but very fine
I marked this one down a bit due to my knowledge of other awesome novels by TP. I found the story was a bit disjointed in parts and galloped thru some events with little detail and other scenarios were almist laboured. As usual very well read by Nigel Planner but not his best. I had to set back the speed a notch. Nigel does voices very well and the Characters were terrific.
A bit of old testament history here and there from the Bible gives added zest and humour.
The plot had twists and turns as is usual with TP. Thoroughly enjoyable to listen to on audible on my weekend away. thanks Nigel and team.

Always great
Nigel is brilliant for this sort of thing and really "gets" Pratchett.
As as for this story, well, it's one of the greats.

Story
Somewhere on the frontier between thought and reality exists the Discworld, a parallel time and place that might sound and smell very much like our own, but which looks completely different. Particularly as it’s carried though space on the back of a giant turtle (sex unknown). It plays by different rules. But then, some things are the same everywhere. The Disc’s very existence is about to be threatened by a strange new blight: the world’s first tourist, upon whose survival rests the peace and prosperity of the land.
