Publisher's Summary

Christy Loren has come to fear her gift of clairvoyance, an unwanted legacy from her mother, a famous psychic. Without warning, visions envelop her - visions that have guided the police, too late, to the bodies of murder victims. To escape these horrors, Christy flees her home in Long Island to seek peace and safety in the foothills of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains and the reassuring presence of her down-to-earth aunt.

But she finds that threatening mysteries await her in those mountains - mysteries that surround a writer's recent death and the disappearance of the unearthly, enigmatic Deirdre. Christy senses secrets locked in the heart of Deirdre's tormented husband, with whom she fears she is becoming too emotionally involved - and haunting Deirdre's troubled son.

Caught in this ominous web, Christy must come to terms with her unwanted psychic powers. As she is drawn into the search for Deirdre, she sees with increasing clarity that the mysteries have a connection to a blood-chilling dream that haunts her. In trying to escape her fate, she has unwittingly embraced it. Now, to uncover the truth, Christy must confront her gift of precognition and her dream. The shocking truth will bring her face-to-face with real and terrifying danger.

Chapter 17th (the ending) Not listed but is there.

The way I search for something to read on Audible seems more difficult then searching in a library or book store. In the latter, I can read about the book inside the book cover, then skim thru and read how the book starts....then read a bit here and there to get an idea of how the author writes. I can flip thru the pages and see if later on in the book the story still seems interesting. I believe it is more difficult to find a good audiobook. Although I do listen to the "sample" it doesn't give an accurate indication of the narrator except for superficially and gives hardly any information on how good the book will be. I also read the reviews. Many times I'll even Google the book to get a better idea. Yet I STILL go thru 20 or 30 books before I finally find something that I will try and invariably I am let down up to 7-8 times out of 10.

WHAT IS IT? Is it me? AM I the only one? I am guessing it has something to do with my age. I am a 52 year old female who has always been a reader except during the years I was raising children, and only because I could not find the time or energy to ever read. After my kids were grown up and I started reading again I found that I was drawn to the genres of sci-fi and fantasy besides the historical and gothic mystery romance of my youth. I even like some paranormal romance. I like mysteries,horror,nonfiction,history....I have an open mind on subject or genre. What it seems like I am struggling with is the writing style. SO many books seem....like they are written for adhd teenagers. I get bored. There is no meat on the bones. It feels superficial.

The last few books I had FINALLY decided on, have been books written decades ago. This one included. And I am FULFILLED. I am satisfied. I am engaged. I am interested. The characters and the story and the way she writes is intellegent and FULL. Feels like a good homemade dinner, or coming home after being away. I think my quest from now on, is going to be searching for authors who wrote back in the time when people had attention spans and common sense,

Narration doesn't fit character

The story itself was fine. I would describe Anna Fields' voice as strong and resonant. It would be a great voice for a strong heroine. But I would describe the heroine of this book as timid and fearful. They just didn't mesh and Anna didn't carry off the timidity and fearfulness of the main character. The end of the book felt like they edited out some of the necessary emotional events to get to the ending that was arrived at (girl gets boy). I did like the way that the mysterious evil person was presented and it kept me guessing to the end.

Disappointed 😞

The book ended at chapter 16. The book never finished...disappointing... it stopped right before the climax!

how did it end?

not a bad story. It cut off before the end. possible technical difficulties? still on the fence of the sound of the narrator. I didnt think her voice fit the story.

Loved it, must read!

The characters are amazing. The story had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. Suspenseful and heart warming to see new love flourish when old love has changed to friendship.
