Publisher's Summary

Betrayed. Murdered. Reborn. One last chance to make it right.

Theo's adventure ended with his mentor's hands around his neck. The betrayal cost him his friends, allies, and everything he had built...but not his life. Though broken and powerless, Theo has one last chance to enter the Nine Worlds, wielding the knowledge and expertise of his first life. This time, he needs more than just power, he needs to unravel the deception that killed him once...and is coming for him again.

Theo built his foundation, but now he has no choice except to venture into the brutal world of Deuxan. In this pale realm of blood feuds, he'll find no allies and no resources except those he can steal. He finally has a chance to investigate what happened since in his first life...but he may not like the answers.

Great story and performance

An excellent continuation that builds perfectly on the first book's foundation while leaving room for many more adventures to come. Very excited to see how Theo's skills grow.

Excellent Performance of a Fantastic Story

The performance here is fantastic, giving immediately identifiable voices to all the characters. The story itself continues to grow, solving some problems, creating new mysteries and facing down new threats. Unusually for progression stories, the characters face serious, long term challenges and do suffer setbacks, but the narrative never turns bleak, or grimdark.

The last "good" before it gets "great"

When rereading this book I found myself getting impatient for the next one. Don't get me wrong, there are some good bits. Our first ascensions and orbital bombardments, for example. But aside from seeing a new world and some new characters, this book feels like too much of a bridge between one and three.

One big thing: SENKA. As much as I loved seeing the hidden meanings this reread, I remember how much I hated her the first time around. If anyone thinks she's an annoying mascot character, just wait... the payoff later is pretty amazing.

But that's kind of the problem with this book. Too many of the pieces are setup and not enough are payoff. It's still pretty fun overall, it just pales in comparison to the others.

As for the performance, Baldree is still GOAT.

The story continues to impress

The first book in the series introduced an amazing world and interesting characters and this book delivers on those promises and continues giving more clues that this world is vast and complicated beyond measure. I am so happy to have found this story and I greatly anticipating the next book in the series.

Please support this series.

This series deserves a lot more attention than it is currently getting. The characters are great, the magic system is so refreshing and unique, and the setting is expansive and interesting.

The author has kindly agreed to put the first three books on audible no matter what, but because it's an expensive process is not sure she can do more unless the series does well.

Please support the author so she can continue this fantastic series and help provide motivation for future books!

A nessecery bridge thats still enjoyable

This book has a lot of flaws that aren't actually flaws on the second read. great development and world building that sets up more important story beats for the future books, (which only get better and better) while also finishing its own cohesive ark. problem is you can tell the current ark is just a stepping stone to more important stuff, and that diminishes its payoff a little bit the character progression is just as satisfying as ever. and travis baldree brings these worlds ALIVE with his fantastic performance and diverse voices that highlight the diversity between worlds.
