The victims are former beauty queens found with a single rose beside their bodies. Lindsay McAllister has seen this signature before, when she was a rookie detective with the Chattanooga PD investigating the death of Judd Walker's wife, a murder that sent the handsome lawyer off the deep end. Now, Lindsay has the brutal task of telling Judd that his wife's killer has struck again, and she's going to need his help to outplay their opponent - because the killer is getting bolder, faster, and more ruthless. The game is escalating, and no one is safe.

Story
The crime scenes are horrifying: the victims arranged with deliberate care, posed to appear alive despite their agonized last moments and the shocking nature of their deaths. No Place To Hide – Chattanooga grief counselor Audrey Sherrod moonlights for the local police. It-s clear to her, and to Special Agent J.D. Cass, that the murders are the work of a deranged serial killer. At first, the only link is the victims- similar physical appearance. But then another connection emerges, tying them to a long-ago series of horrifying crimes Audrey hoped would never resurface-crimes that hit all too close to home

A disappointment
After enjoying the first two books in the Raintree series I was really
looking forward to this book. It would hopefully bring all of the
characters together for the final showdown. The story had lots of
potential but, it just didn't live up to it. While the narration was
good again, the hero and heroine just lacked chemistry. When they
finally do come together sexually it is a forceful, brutal, and
antagonist. I cringed at some of the wording used; it seemed like more
of a rape than intense passion. Additionally, Mercy's brothers are
hardly in this novel even though the reader is left hanging at the ends
of novels one and two. I must admit that I finished the book. I had to
find out what happened but, I am disappointed that this series'
potential just wasn't fully realized. If written by one of the two
previous authors, I think this could have been superbly delicious. Also,
the child Eve could be way too annoying at times and, was used too
heavily as a means to bring her parent's romance along. I'd rather see
this done through good development of the characters so that it really
works for the reader. Finally, the graphic violence of the final battle
was over the top at times for my taste; a trend a really don't like
seeing in my chic novels.

Raintree: Sanctuary
The book could have been a lot better if I hadn't taken offense at the author suggesting that a woman being raped would not only enjoy this, but love the man that had raped even if she had a child with him prior. I feel it was a slap in the face of all rape victims. I haven't heard or read many romance novels maybe it is the norm to insult the intelligence of their readers while making it harder for victims to prove their case even to other women who read books like this and have never experienced the brutality or humiliation of this act of violence as that is what it is, not love or lust, but hatred and assault. Maybe if one of the authors who wrote the other two in this series had done this one, this would have been a grand slam as well.

What a big let down!
After reading all the Raintree books, this is by far the worst! Nothing really happens until you are about 7.5 hours in and then the battle is rushed through. What a shame because all the other books were really good!

Good Conclusion
This was a good conclusion to an overall good series. I know there's a fourth book, but these three were all tightly wound together and this is definitely a stopping point.
I didn't love the relationship between Mercy and Juda, there was too much of them wanting to literally kill one another until too close to the end. Mercy kept swearing she fell in love with him seven years ago when they had a one-night stand that resulted in their daughter, but I'm not sure what "love" means in this context because I sure didn't feel it.
Even, the 6-year-old daughter, was a little scary. Which was definitely the point!

Would you try another book from Beverly Barton and/or Gabrielle de Cuir and Stefan Rudnicki ?
Beverly Barton let us down~ what a bore~
What could Beverly Barton have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
better writing! this was a pathetic ending to the trilogy we adored in part one and two.
What didn’t you like about Gabrielle de Cuir and Stefan Rudnicki ’s performance?
yes
What character would you cut from Raintree?
BETTER writing in part 3
Any additional comments?
what a yawner~ Part 3 drags from the first boring word. Barton let us down in this lemon. SAD....first two have us glued and three ...BAD~ drags.....pathetic~

An unexpected conclusion . . .
Beverly Barton is a good writer, however, the storyline to the conclusion of the Raintree and Ansara clash was not the best. I agree with Rebecca that the interaction between Judah Ansara and Mercy Raintree had wayyyy too much violence. And that the brevity of the book (under 300 pages) restricted full development of the main characters and the inclusion of the great couples that we met in the earlier books of this trilogy.
