Story
Christianity has tended to focus on right beliefs and right choices as the keys for personal growth. But biblical evidence and modern brain science show that our character is shaped more by whom we love than what we believe. Through conversations he had with Dallas Willard at the Heart and Soul Conference shortly before Dallas' death, Jim Wilder shows how we can train our brains to relate to God based on joyful, mutual attachment - which leads to emotional and spiritual maturity as our identity and character are formed by our relationship with God.

He lays out what is required for church leaders to multiply deeply changed people who are growing in relationship with God, themselves, and others. Scazzero begins with four beneath-the-surface, systemic gaps that undermine serious discipleship. He provides a clear vision for a church culture that deeply changes lives and then practically unpacks the seven biblical marks of emotionally healthy discipleship.

There is no growth without change, no change without loss, and no loss without pain. Bottom line: if you're not hurting, you're not leading. But this book is not a theological treatise on pain. Rather in Leadership Pain, Samuel Chand - best-selling author recognized as "the leader's leader" - provides a concrete, practical understanding of the pain we experience.

Living with humans is messy. Our children make messes. Our spouses and friends make messes. So do our coworkers, bosses, pastors, and presidents...and so do we. Messes are scary, painful, and offensive. And whether we're dealing with the pain of a personal failure, the frustration of a disrespectful child, the devastation of a major betrayal, the stress of a workplace conflict, or the fallout of larger social injustices, classically we react the same way - with fear, shame, and punishment.

In How to Lead When You're Not in Charge, author and pastor Clay Scroggins explains the nature of leadership and what's needed to be a great leader - even when you answer to someone else.

We've seen the negative impact of self-serving leaders in every sector of our society. Not infrequently, they end up bringing down their entire organization. But there is another way. Servant leaders lead by serving their people, not by exalting themselves. In this collection, edited by legendary business author and lifelong servant leader Ken Blanchard and his longtime editor Renee Broadwell, leading businesspeople, best-selling authors, and spiritual leaders offer tools for implementing this proven - but for some, still radical - leadership model.

Good message, poor voice
I absolutely love the message and applying these concepts to life, leadership, and organizations. Very difficult to stay focused due to the tone and pitch of the reading. It sounds like a computer voices and less like an actual person reading a book.
I want to continue listening on but find it difficult due to the lack of voice fluctuation.

Good Solid Mayerial
An organization that I love and has been involved with for more than two decades has developed their leadership training program around this material. It’s definitely solid stuff, focusing on relationship and attitude over management and strategy. Very good for faith based (Christian) organizations of any kind. A few moments of excessive self-promotion (I.e. “Best moment in our marriage was when I learned about Jim”s Life Model. Overall really excellent presentation of characteristics of a good leader.

The most applicable book since 7 habits
I read this book a year ago and have used it regularly to bring me back to Joy, act like myself, remain relational and enduring hardship. I've been a business leader for 20 years. Like anyone else I've had challenges in the past year and this book has helped me immensely to overcome and succeed as a leader. Not since reading the 7 habits 15 years ago have I used a book so regularly to be a better person and ultimately a better leader. The authors share their own trials and victories, which is very helpful. They give context for issues, showing their years of experience in coaching others. A great resource for leaders at any level.

Deeply Unscientific, Logically Fallacious
I kept waiting for the author to substantiate the myriad of claims he was making. There were so many biases promoted as scientific facts, some of which have been previously discredited, I could no longer trust the author. Ultimately, I just couldn’t continue to listen.

Good, but is highly reliant on religion..
As the title says, it is highly reliant on religion, not that it's good or bad, but unexpected. With that being said, it was very well written as to why a closer connection to religion could, in fact, instill or renew the leadership characteristics the reader is searching for. Worth a read!
