Publisher's Summary

Repeat New York Times bestselling author Christopher Moore returns to the mean streets of San Francisco in this outrageous follow-up to his madcap novel Noir.

San Francisco, 1947. Bartender Sammy “Two Toes” Tiffin and the rest of the Cookie’s Coffee Irregulars—a ragtag bunch of working mugs last seen in Noir—are on the hustle: they’re trying to open a driving school; shanghai an abusive Swedish stevedore; get Mable, the local madam, and her girls to a Christmas party at the State Hospital without alerting the overzealous head of the S.F.P.D. vice squad; all while Sammy’s girlfriend, Stilton (a.k.a. the Cheese), and her “Wendy the Welder” gal pals are using their wartime shipbuilding skills on a secret project that might be attracting the attention of some government Men in Black. And, oh yeah, someone is murdering the city’s drag kings and club owner Jimmy Vasco is sure she’s next on the list and wants Sammy to find the killer.

Meanwhile, Eddie “Moo Shoes” Shu has been summoned by his Uncle Ho to help save his opium den from Squid Kid Tang, a vicious gangster who is determined to retrieve a priceless relic: an ancient statue of the powerful Rain Dragon that Ho stole from one of the fighting tongs forty years earlier. And if Eddie blows it, he just might call down the wrath of that powerful magical creature on all of Fog City.

Strap yourselves in for a bit of the old razzmatazz, ladies and gentlemen. It’s Christopher Moore time.

Noir Has Never Been So Funny

I consider myself something of a noir connoisseur and after nearly 20 years of indulging my habit I thought I’d seen, heard, and read it all. I own a signed first edition from James Ellroy and I’ve been following the exploits of Philip Marlowe, Sam Spade, and Mike Hammer since I was 12 (probably why I’m single). A weird flex, I know, but I say these things not to brag but merely to establish my noir bonafides. So please, trust me when I say: noir has NEVER been this much fun.
From the characters, to the setting, to the narrator, Razzmatazz delivers a pitch perfect noir pastiche that’s as compelling as it is hilarious. The writing crackles with wit, humor, and just the right amount of edge. It genuinely reads like James Ellroy wrote a Venture Brothers episode or James Gunn re-wrote “The Maltese Falcon”. And while most of the credit for Razzmatazz’s brilliance should go to Christopher Moore, the performance of Johnny Heller also deserves praise. He delivers both the humor and the hard-boiled staccato soul of the material perfectly and adds so much personality to an already vibrant story. Whether you like to laugh, like to noir, or both, you’ll definitely find something to enjoy in Christopher Moore’s Razzmatazz.

Always Excellent

There isn't a bad Christopher Moore book to be had. This was my first audiobook of one of his titles though and A++++ to the narrator for an amazing and spirited read. I loved it and he managed to voice so many characters without lapsing into any trope accents and it was so enjoyable to listen and hear the story brought to life.

I felt like I was there!

Hilarious story read by a truly amazing narrator. I could use more 1940's San Francisco please!

one of my favorites

I love Christopher Moore. Only a couple books have been less than hoped for. My favs has been the You Suck series and Stupidest Angel. Razzmatazz and Noir have leaped to the top. It helps that I love old Cagney and Bogart gangster movies but is not necessarily needed. I laughed out loud many times while listening in mar car. I hope Sammy, the Cheese and the rest of these characters come again. A great fun listen. The reader was exceptional.

Johnny Heller is the best narrator on audible

I really liked moore’s first book in this series “Noir: a novel” and loved heller’s performance in narration. He has just the right tenor and diversity in tone to create different characters that all sound like Humphrey bogart doing impressions which really added to the noir sound that the narration demanded. The same is true here. In Razzmatazz, Heller does a lovely job bringing the characters back to life, making them funny, while also making the drama still…well… dramatic

Don’t miss out on this story

What a fabulous follow up story to Noir! Best book of the year. Johnny Heller takes it over the top with his narration too. Christopher Moore does not disappoint.

Loved It!!!

I wasn't quite blown away by the 1st Novel (though it was entertaining), but I thoroughly enjoyed the expansion of the world & characters in the sequel. Hope there's a third novel on the way with more insight into Lone Jones.
Also love Johnny Heller's narration, which makes the entire book come to life.

If you love Christopher Moore read it for sure

A 'follow up' to Noir. Noir was the first book by this author that I read (listened to) and I loved it. It's dark, it's hilarious, it's engaging, it's really good. I'm hooked on Christopher Moore, and Eddie Moo-shoes, The Cheese, Uncle Ho, 'Lone' and of course our intrepid protagonist Sammy Two-Toes and all these rest of their gang.

The narrator is perfect. I can't imagine reading this book after having heard this narrator's reading of it. He totally gets what the author is doing and saying. And how he's saying it. Listening makes this and other Christopher Moore books even more enjoyable.
The characters are like no others, The dialog is so funny I was laughing out loud alone in my car.

What a performance

The Cagney/Edgar G. accents added so much to the story! What a fabulous touch.

THIS IS A SEQUEL

I really enjoyed listening to this book, it's funny and absurd and interesting. Not my usual genre so I feel like I've learned somethings too.

However this is the sequel to "Noir" even though Audible doesn't say so, and it's full of spoilers for it, to listen to "Noir" first.
