I’ve planned this night for weeks, down to the last detail. I want it to be perfect. Bringing someone new into my private life is not something I do lightly, having learned the hard way over the years that celebrity has a dark downside that I go out of my way to avoid whenever possible. But he is different. We’ve been together for months and the time is right to take this next step with him. It doesn’t take long for me to realize I’ve made a huge mistake trusting this man.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

Clare and Henry have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was 36. They were married when Clare was 23 and Henry was 31. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing.

Publisher's Summary
The McCarthys of Gansett Island, Book 3
For four of the best summers of his young life, Luke Harris was in love with Sydney Donovan, a wealthy seasonal visitor to Gansett Island. Then Sydney went off to college and never came back. She married another man and had two children while Luke remained on the island, working at McCarthy's Gansett Marina and wondering what had gone wrong between him and the only woman he ever loved. Fifteen months after Sydney suffers the tragic loss of her husband and children, she's returned to Gansett to figure out what's next, and that may very well be a rekindled love affair with the one man from her past she’s never forgotten. But is she ready for a second chance at love?

Lukewarm story, flat delivery
Any additional comments?
I usually go through series one after the other especially if/when the price is right (books that are whispersync enabled) - case in point my all time favorites, Kirsten Ashley, Kristen Proby, Susan Elizabeth Philips, and to some extent Marie Force. So there is usually a reason why I would skip books in series or why I don't listen to the series one after another. It's taking me awhile to go through this series and I now remember why - there's too much going on. I get that Marie introduces the next characters in the current book, but the stories sometimes gets discombobulated. Luke's and Syd's story didn't seem to grasp my interest that much - they have a luke-warm relationship even the supposed to be hot scenes seem uninteresting (unlike Hoping for Love, Book 5 which I liked the best). I guess there was a reason why I skipped 3 and 4 and read 5 after reading 1 and 2.
thought Luke and Syd's story would be too hard to listen to because of Syd's loss, so I prepared myself to listen to it. I was ready for some angst -darnIT. But there was no angst - just a couple walking on eggshells and the narrator reading about a bunch of unhappy people. I don't know what it is, but I don't think Holly Fielding was able to project the varied emotions that was needed for the story. If felt like Syd and Luke were always sad - even the love scenes had the same cadence no excitement at all. All in all this book is SAD (yes I mean disappointing) because the couple walked gingerly around each other for most of the book and the narrator's delivery was flat. I feel like I wasted my time on this.

Characters come to life
What made the experience of listening to Ready for Love the most enjoyable?
I have read all of Marie's book & I am a huge fan but listening to her books makes the characters come to life & helps my housework go so much quicker. The narrators do a fantastic job with the different character's "voice", never monotone but with depth & emphasis! Love them all, Marie... Keep them coming!!!

My Review:
Overall... 3.5 star
Performance.... 4.0 star
Story... 3.5 star
This is one of those books that I honestly think I would have enjoyed more if I'd read it rather than listened to it. And I can honestly say that I think this is the first book that I've found that I felt that way about. There's a lot of emotion to this book and listening to it on audio, I think that I lost some of that emotional connection I would have found if I'd been reading the book to myself. I'm not sure why, but it was something I noticed for the first time when listening to this audio.
And there is a lot of emotion to this book. Sydney lost her entire family, two children and a husband, in a car wreck. When she got involved with her husband, she broke Luke's heart. At the time, she was looking for someone with more ambition and money than Luke brought to the table. It hurt him horribly because Sydney was the girl for him. Now that she's back on the island, he can't resist the allure of her.
I had a hard time with Sydney at times. She broke Luke's heart and so many times throughout the story, it almost felt like she was toying with him. I loved Luke's character and hurt so much for him when she would pull back.
There are several close call/emotional points in this book, but there is one point that I really had an issue with where Sydney put her dog in front of Luke. They are both hurt and I understand why the dog is important to her, but I still think she should put Luke first.
I didn't find this book as riveting as the other two I've listened to in the series, but it was still an entertaining read.

another good installment in the gansett series
It's nice to follow the same characters but not directly across several books because you get to see new dimensions to characters you already know alongside getting to know characters you only vaguely knew from the book before. Story was slightly predictable but overall a nice listen. Great voice performance as always.

book great not so good narration
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
yes and no. I would recommend reading the book but warn anyone that the narration not good
Who was your favorite character and why?
i like them all and the way they weave in and out of the story line on all the books.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Holly Fielding?
unknown, i would have to review the narrators. She sort of drones on, just reading the book, and her portrayals of the different characters is not good.
Was Ready for Love worth the listening time?
the story is great but the narration awful
Any additional comments?
the story line is such that you put up with the lacking narration.
