Story
Alan Watts discusses the word tathata, which is translated from the Sanskrit as "suchness" or "thusness." The term is used in Mahayana Buddhism to suggest how things look to a Buddha, to one who has experienced enlightenment or liberation and is, therefore, called a Tathagata - one who comes (and goes) thus. Watts shares the sense of this nonsense in Buddhist philosophy, and its practical demonstration in Zen.

Story
In his first novel, A Happy Death, written when he was in his early 20s and retrieved from his private papers following his death in 1960, Albert Camus laid the foundation for The Stranger, focusing in both works on an Algerian clerk who kills a man in cold blood. But he also revealed himself to an extent that he never would in his later fiction. For if A Happy Death is the study of a rule-bound being shattering the fetters of his existence, it is also a remarkably candid portrait of its author as a young man.

Attributed to the intelligent military strategist Sun Tzu, the title of the work is Master Sun's Rules of Warfare when literally translated from Chinese. The book contains 13 chapters, each of which are dedicated to a single aspect of warfare strategy. Taking bankers and politicians to task, he explains the historical origins of inequality among and within nations, questions the pervasive notion that everything has its price, and shows why economic instability is a chronic risk.

Publisher's Summary
Alan Watts discusses the Indian philosophy of the world as maya - under its multiple meanings as illusion, art, magic, creative power, measure, etc. Various techniques in the arts are used to illustrate the delicate and vibrational character of the material world, and to suggest a new approach to the old philosophy that the universe is "mind" only.

Great Teacher
I love Alan watts presentment. However, I find it troubling in one part. Due to the era he comes from, he makes the disgusting statement "just like not all black men are n!!!!!rs, or not all China Men are c""nks," etc. He never says, "and not all white men are cra!!ers..." but because he said not ALL "this" are "that" it's not supposed to be racist.
Well... such is the way of human ignorance.
By the way, racism is not purely a white issue. Were I white in India I'd of stood a great chance of being pulled out of my house and burned to death in the middle of the night in recent times.
A certain Latino comedian is fond of saying everyone is racist, and that he hates white people.
Racism sucks. I love you all. Thank you.

The genius of Alan Watts
This is a very insightful series of talks by the great Alan Watts, who is extremely prescient in this discussions. Although the audio has some problems here and there, it is something easily overcome by the superiority of the content. I have most of his audiobooks, and like Osho, who is his Eastern counterpart and one of my favorite authors. All of their audiobooks and regular books are well worth the time and energy. I hope you enjoy these talks as much as I have. They are highly recommended.

Story
The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.
