Story
Caitlyn Lloyd has the world at her feet. Or more accurately - under her horse’s hooves. With the 2016 Rio Olympics just around the corner, nothing is going to derail her long-held dream of winning a medal or two in Olympic dressage. Not even the reappearance of a childhood so-not-a-friend throwing her perfectly balanced life into disarray. Addie Gardner’s career is at its peak, and accepting a last-minute fill-in position as the veterinarian for the US Olympic Dressage Team was a no-brainer. The fact that her old crush from Pony Club is on the team is just a bonus.

Jana Fleischer loves her life - wonderful family, best sister in the world, awesome soon to be sister-in-law, fabulous job, and a never-ending stream of men to chew through and spit out. So what if everyone says she’s too picky and she’s never had a real relationship? When a chance meeting with Brooke Donnelly leaves Jana literally and figuratively off-balance, it doesn’t take long for her initial annoyance to turn into the first sparks of friendship.

With that accusation stuck in her head, Isabelle throws caution to the wind and dives into her first one-night stand. Checking that off her bucket list should be something to celebrate - except it turns out that the woman she just spent an earth-shattering night with is actually her newly hired company pilot, Audrey Graham. Captain Sabine Fleischer is a skilled and dedicated US Army surgeon deployed to a combat hospital in Afghanistan. She is also one of the thousands of troops who are forced to serve in silence because of the military's anti-gay policy of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell (DADT)". Usually driven and focused, Sabine finds that battles raging both inside and outside are making it more and more difficult for her to deal with her emotions. Dealing with loss and mortality, lack of privacy, sleep deprivation, loneliness, and the isolation forced on her by Don't Ask, Don't Tell are all taking their toll.

OMG!!!!
So I’ve read all of E.J. Noyes other books and I love her writing, the characters she creates and the story line. When I saw this book I was instantly excited until I read what it was about. I am a simple straightforward (semi-real life) love story type and this was like nothing I had read before. I’ve never be drawn to the “fantasy fiction” but THIS BOOK WAS PHENOMENAL!!! The detail of the characters and how they all came to be and how intricately they were woven. The details of the characters background and questions you asked while reading it were answered as if you were speaking with the author and characters themselves.

Creative Romance
I know the concept may be different, but reading about love when death and eternity are readily acceptable concepts is refreshing. It was well done. There is also one scene of seduction that tests the resolve of a person struggling to hold on to control as a means to defend against losing more of herself. It was simultaneously hot and conceptually beautiful, when she loses control, she finally realizes who she is and who she's always been. At least, that's my thoughts. Great read and wonderful narration by AC

Soooo Satisfying
I have been anticipating to finally get to hear the combination of Noyes and Craden once more and they did not disappoint. I loved every freaking character. Morgan and Jane you cannot help but to love and root for and the two main side characters CC and Jane's mother Pamela were the perfect compliments to Morgan and Jane. CC can be my wing man anytime. Honestly CC almost, just almost stole the show. My only negative is that it ended so soon. Please savor it, don't blink, or it will be over. I was immediately wanting more. Mrs. Noyes, if you are listening, I would love to experience more from this world you have created and any new wonderful characters you would add to the story. Wonderful!

I was pleasantly surprised that the world mechanics worked. Not overly descriptive but enough that I could suspend disbelief.

A total "feel good." So much very clever wry/tounge-in-cheek humor, so many laughs. Just the right amount of angst/soul searching & TGS (tastefully graphic sex). A happily ever after (extreme). Love and romance. And Abby Craden does her (as usual) awesome job!

It's EJ Noyes...! It's Abby Craden...!
Ej Noyes is in my 'five geniuses of lesfic' list, and so far I have loved all her work and all the reading performances on Audible.
I've listened to this book twice, before reviewing, to work out my reaction to it. And I guess I feel a little underwhelmed. I mean, it's EJ Noyes! She's a great writer, so this book is better than the vast majority of lesfic out there, but it's not EJ's best IMHO. If you know your Jane Austen, this is my Northanger Abbey: great and fun and full of sparkling moments, but NOT Pride and Prejudice!
I wont detail my problems with it, I'll leave that up to you. It's certainly worth a credit and certainly lots to love. I'll listen again and often, unlike several of my other lesfic choices.
I also, for the first time ever, have to say I think I've found a chink in Abby Craden's armour... Her British accent is not up to being the main character in a long novel.... 🙄 Just saying!

A great benefit to reap
I was a bit doubtful both of the several negative narrator reviews and the topic but found that the narration was fine and E J Noyes was as good as ever. Ok it’s not the best British accent ever but I’m more interested in the ‘feel’ of the voice and Abby Craden has that in spades. I also really enjoyed the ‘death and her minions’ concept, it was clever and heartwarming.

Ok! 24 hours since I finished listening to Reaping the Benefits. I have thought of all these one liners Wow! Simply Marvellous! But quite frankly, short of a billboard in the Brisbane City Mall, nothing will do. Another book of EJ Noyes that I thought hmmm not really my kind of book. But after putting off listening to Alone and then loving it, I was somewhat less hesitant this time. I am so glad because EJ Noyes you have excelled again. Love it! Somewhat Harry Potterish.... wait! I know you are probably thinking what kind of Les fic is this? Well it’s fun and romantic and not at all serious but definitely worth a listen or read. It had me giggling more than once. Love your work as always EJ Noyes and Abby Craden you definitely rock as per usual. Thank you for another great book. Definitely my favourite author and narrator.

Hard to get into
Struggled to follow the storyline and stay focused. I've enjoyed Noyes' books and had high hopes for this one but just couldn't follow.

Different concept
Interesting concept. interesting characters - especially CC! I want her story!!
Story got a little bogged down in explanation at times...but seeing as the concept was a novel one, I understood the need. Quite different from other books I've read of EJN. Not sure why, but wasn't very invested in this world she's created but still enjoyed the story.
Narration by AC was full of inflection...had to get used to her Pommy accent, which was a lot better than her Aussie one😁...juuuust didn't do it for me. Personal preference for story telling is her American accent so far. I felt CC's accent was pretty spot on as well. I need a love story for CC narrated by AC . One thing is for certain, AC's narration bring all the characters to life as unique people, with clear personalities and a realness to them that surprises and impresses me everytime I think about it.

Fantastic!
The kind of queer romance fiction I've been looking for. Loved the voice actors, very sexy.

Fun, well written, well acted
More a romance than speculative fiction this book was everything you would want from the genre. Not many surprises but very enjoyable plot and great characters. Sex scenes not avoided by author and seemed authentic to me.

Abby Craden
Just the most brilliant reader of all time
The story was fun. Initially I thought it had more holes in it than a spaghetti sieve...
however, in the end I thoroughly enjoyed the story... just a bit of good fun with some writing gems from E.J. Noyes
Highly recommended

Excellent escapism
I downloaded this audiobook without reading the blurb because I've always enjoyed Noyes' books, so I was very pleasantly surprised to discover that this had elements of the paranormal mixed into it. It would be grossly unfair to say that COVID was entirely responsible for how much I enjoyed this book (although it played a supporting part) because it's an excellent book. The paranormal parts of the book help distract from the less than pleasant everyday reality that we're currently living through. The characters are well formed and the dialogue is witty. It would also be remiss of me to not mention that Abby Craden did an excellent job of bringing the characters to life. I can confidently say that this is my favourite-est-est Noyes book, so much so I'm listening to it for the second time almost immediately after finishing it.
