Publisher's Summary

With one simple myth, nations burned. Under the Almighty, an empire has been forged, bringing peace to the once-divided continent. But now, a spark of truth threatens to ignite the religion of lies.

Chapman unknowingly brought the Seventh Precinct to their demise. Now Officer Holden Sanders, known throughout the capital city as the survivor, seeks the truth of how so many he held dear were slaughtered. But, when it comes to light his former mentor might still draw breath, the officer of God is forced to wage war against the Almighty itself.

Good for a YouTuber book, room for improvement

Like many people who got this audiobook, I'm a watcher of Daniel Greene's content. That's how I found out about this book in the first place! I listened to Breach of Peace and was pleasantly surprised; the bar for books by YouTubers has been set so dreadfully low. So I was eager to see how Greene improved for this, the sequel.

The results were, eh, okay.

Greene is competent enough, but I really didn't see too much improvement. One thing I noticed is that Greene is scarce on descriptions and much too fast on transitions, and this is exacerbated the further into the book you get. Characters will go from having a conversation and then traversing across half the city with but a sentence. This is pure speculation on my part, but I don't get the sense that it was rushed, per se, but that Greene was perhaps impatient to get to the next plot beat.

Characters were fine but there were some weird instances that didn't sit right with me. For example, one character in particular is set up a very specific way: he's spent months mourning his fallen comrades, having turned to drink, mostly abandoned his exercise routine, shows up to work late, etc. But later on he does a complete 180 so abrupt and casual, it's almost funny.

Fights were decent.

I'll still check out the third one.

mr. greene you did it again.

after years of talking smack about poor sequels you prove your words by delivering a strong 2nd entry into this universe you've created. I love the way it bounces between perspectives and getting the A-team to narrate for you is amazing. bravo sir, I not to patiently await the next release.

Interesting idea, but confusing execution

I listened to the second book in hopes it would answer some questions left by the first book. I really wanted this series to be a home run because I love the author. It felt to erratic. Still was an interesting idea and the ending was good. Hope as Daniel grows as an author his story’s will be better executed.

big step up from book 1

This book took the potential from the first book and elevated it so much. this was excellent. really great to see the author settling into his style because the story he's telling is really good.

An Enjoyable Story

This is much improved and far longer than it’s previous instalment. The themes are stronger and the story is fuller and it isn’t afraid to follow through and stronger plot points.

One criticism is that the writing is a bit weaker, some characters sound the same and the repetition of words to describe things between characters is something that bugged me.

That minor point aside I am enjoying this story although I can’t see how the Empire will not win, perhaps that is the point.
The Grim Dark is shining through alive and well and I love it for that, it’s nice to be here for the birth of a new Author and his story.

Great book and a perfect sequel to Breach of peace

I was a bit scare that Daniel being a YouTube and all would disappoint. But he delivered not once but twice!
