Publisher's Summary

You might think murder would be rare in a quiet English village...

When the local goddess of cake is found impaled with her own pallet knife, the victim's husband is found holding the murder weapon. It's an open and shut case...until he calls Patricia Fisher that is.

With a surprising new assistant in tow, your favorite middle-aged sleuth has all the help she will need, but this case is a tough one for everyone she suspects instantly becomes the next victim.

With the village fete a week away, cooks are revving up to win the coveted best cake prize, especially now that the favorite is in the morgue.

Can the killer really be one of the lovely old ladies?

With president of the church council, old rival Angelica Howard-Box, stirring up trouble, Patricia has more than enough on her plate, and she'll have to solve this fast because her own cook, Mrs. Pam Ellis might be next!

Baking can be murder

Recipe for Murder is an enjoyable cozy mystery. Steve Higgs writes outstanding mystery books. Patricia Fisher is such a wonderful character. One of the top cake bakers is found stabbed with a knife. With her out of the way, will that leave the the best cake competition more competitive? Or, will Patricia’s own cook be next? Recipe for Murder was narrated by Maryanne M. Wells and she does a wonderful performance. I really enjoyed this book.

Comedic Mystery

It's a joy to find a well-ploted, well-written mystery. To find one that is also humorous steps up the enjoyment. The narrator's choice of voice takes getting used to, but, with time, adds instead of detracting from the story. I'm looking forward to another comedic Mystery from this author.

murder & mayhem

the audiobook was very entertaining and lively while keeping the mystery upfront. I enjoyed the The twist & turns that the author put in it. You can tell there was considerable thought put into the plot & story telling throughout the book. The characters came alive as well as being able to envision the scenes. I thought overall this was a murder mystery well worth the read/listen; murder & mayhem totally enjoyable.

It's almost always the one you least suspect!

As the clock is ticking, Patricia must find the person who murdered a woman before her husband is sent away for the crime that she is certain he did not commit. At the same time, though, she is being relentlessly hounded by a woman hell bent on destroying her for stealing away her boyfriend when she was just 8 years old and a mysterious woman who also wants her dead! Such is the life of a very busy PI. Loved all the mystery and intrigue as well as the hidden dangers of The Godmother always lurking in the background.

Murder and misdirection

Fast paced and engaging plot that had me hooked from the beginning. Plot twists and misdirection abound in this fabulous instalment of the Patricia Fisher Village Mysteries.
Whilst Maryanne M. Wells did a fantastic job with the other character’s voices in dialogue, Patricia’s dialogue and internal monologue sometimes came across as patronising because the speech had odd inflections and was really slow (I was comfortably able to listen to the book at 1.25x narration speed).
I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author, and I'm leaving a voluntary review.
